1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses: 'Depart, go up hence, thou and the people that thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land of which I swore unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying: Unto thy seed will I give it--
1 E disse o SENHOR a Moisés: Vai, sobe daqui, tu e o povo que fizeste subir da terra do Egito, para a terra que jurei a Abraão, a Isaque, e a Jacó, dizendo: À tua semente a darei.
2 and I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite--
2 E enviarei um anjo adiante de ti e expulsarei os cananeus, os amorreus, os heteus, os ferezeus, os heveus e os jebuseus,
3 unto a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people; lest I consume thee in the way.'
3 para uma terra que mana leite e mel; porque eu não subirei no meio de ti, porque és um povo obstinado, para que eu não te consuma no caminho.
4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned; and no man did put on him his ornaments.
4 E quando o povo ouviu essa má notícia, entristeceu-se; e nenhum homem pôs sobre si os seus ornamentos.
5 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Say unto the children of Israel: Ye are a stiffnecked people; if I go up into the midst of thee for one moment, I shall consume thee; therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.'
5 O SENHOR, pois, havia dito a Moisés: Dize aos filhos de Israel: Vós sois um povo obstinado; se por um momento eu subir no meio de ti, te consumirei. Por isso, agora tira de ti teus ornamentos, para que eu saiba o que fazer contigo.
6 And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments from mount Horeb onward.
6 E os filhos de Israel tiraram de si os seus ornamentos junto ao monte Horebe.
7 Now Moses used to take the tent and to pitch it without the camp, afar off from the camp; and he called it The tent of meeting. And it came to pass, that every one that sought the LORD went out unto the tent of meeting, which was without the camp.
7 E Moisés tomou o tabernáculo, e o armou fora do acampamento, distante do acampamento, e o chamou de tabernáculo da congregação. E aconteceu que todo aquele que buscava o SENHOR saía para o tabernáculo da congregação, que estava fora do acampamento.
8 And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the Tent, that all the people rose up, and stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the Tent.
8 E aconteceu que, saindo Moisés para o tabernáculo, todo o povo se levantava, e ficava cada homem diante da porta de sua tenda, e olhava Moisés pelas costas, até ele entrar no tabernáculo.
9 And it came to pass, when Moses entered into the Tent, the pillar of cloud descended, and stood at the door of the Tent; and the LORD spoke with Moses.
9 E acontecia que, quando Moisés entrava no tabernáculo, a coluna de nuvem descia e ficava à porta do tabernáculo, e o SENHOR falava com Moisés.
10 And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent, all the people rose up and worshipped, every man at his tent door.
10 E todo o povo via a coluna de nuvem ficar à porta do tabernáculo, e todo o povo se levantava; e adorava, cada um à porta da sua tenda.
11 And the LORD spoke unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he would return into the camp; but his minister Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the Tent.
11 E o SENHOR falava com Moisés face a face, como um homem fala com seu amigo. E ele voltava novamente ao acampamento, mas seu servo Josué, o filho de Num, um jovem, não se apartava do meio do tabernáculo.
12 And Moses said unto the LORD: 'See, Thou sayest unto me: Bring up this people; and Thou hast not let me know whom Thou wilt send with me. Yet Thou hast said: I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in My sight.
12 E disse Moisés ao SENHOR: Vê, tu me dizes: Faz subir este povo, e não me deste a saber quem enviarás comigo. Mas disseste: Conheço-te pelo nome, e tu encontraste graça aos meus olhos.
13 Now therefore, I pray Thee, if I have found grace in Thy sight, show me now Thy ways, that I may know Thee, to the end that I may find grace in Thy sight; and consider that this nation is Thy people.'
13 Por isso, agora, rogo-te, se encontrei graça aos teus olhos; mostra-me agora o teu caminho, para que eu te conheça, para que eu encontre graça aos teus olhos, e considera que esta nação é o teu povo.
14 And He said: 'My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.'
14 E ele disse: Minha presença irá contigo, e eu te darei descanso.
15 And he said unto Him: 'If Thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
15 E ele disse-lhe: Se tua presença não for comigo, não nos faças subir daqui.
16 For wherein now shall it be known that I have found grace in Thy sight, I and Thy people? is it not in that Thou goest with us, so that we are distinguished, I and Thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth?'
16 Como pois se poderá saber que achamos graça aos teus olhos, eu e teu povo? Não é em andares tu conosco? Assim seremos separados, eu e teu povo, de todos os povos que estão sobre a face da terra.
17 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken, for thou hast found grace in My sight, and I know thee by name.'
17 E disse o SENHOR a Moisés: Farei também isto que disseste, pois encontraste graça aos meus olhos, e eu te conheço pelo nome.
18 And he said: 'Show me, I pray Thee, Thy glory.'
18 E ele disse: Suplico-te, mostra-me a tua glória.
19 And He said: 'I will make all My goodness pass before thee, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.'
19 E ele disse: Farei toda a minha bondade passar diante de ti, e proclamarei o nome do SENHOR diante de ti. E terei misericórdia de quem eu tiver misericórdia, e me compadecerei de quem eu me compadecer.
20 And He said: 'Thou canst not see My face, for man shall not see Me and live.'
20 E disse: Não podes ver a minha face, porque nenhum homem me verá e viverá.
21 And the LORD said: 'Behold, there is a place by Me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock.
21 E disse o SENHOR: Vê, há um lugar junto a mim, e tu ficarás sobre a rocha.
22 And it shall come to pass, while My glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with My hand until I have passed by.
22 E acontecerá, quando a minha glória passar, que eu te porei em uma fenda da rocha, e te cobrirei com a minha mão enquanto eu passar,
23 And I will take away My hand, and thou shalt see My back; but My face shall not be seen.'
23 e tirarei a minha mão, e tu me verás pelas minhas costas; mas a minha face não será vista.
