¹ THESE ARE the words which Moses spoke unto all Israel beyond the Jordan; in the wilderness, in the Arabah, over against Suph, between Paran and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Di-zahab.

¹ Estas são as palavras que Moisés falou a todo Israel, deste lado do Jordão, no deserto, na planície diante do mar Vermelho, entre Parã e Tofel, e Labã, e Hazerote, e Di-Zaabe

² It is eleven days journey from Horeb unto Kadesh-barnea by the way of mount Seir.

² (Há onze dias de jornada desde Horebe pelo caminho do monte Seir até Cades-Barneia).

³ And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;

³ E sucedeu que, no quadragésimo ano, no undécimo mês, no primeiro dia do mês, que Moisés falou aos filhos de Israel, conforme tudo o que o SENHOR lhe havia dito que ordenasse a eles;

⁴ after he had smitten Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who dwelt in Ashtaroth, at Edrei;

⁴ depois que havia ferido a Seom, rei dos amorreus, que habitava em Hesbom, e a Ogue, rei de Basã, que habitava em Astarote, em Edrei,

⁵ beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, took Moses upon him to expound this law, saying:

⁵ deste lado do Jordão, na terra de Moabe, começou Moisés a declarar esta lei, dizendo:

⁶ The LORD our God spoke unto us in Horeb, saying: 'Ye have dwelt long enough in this mountain;

⁶ O SENHOR nosso Deus nos falou em Horebe, dizendo: Haveis habitado neste monte tempo suficiente;

⁷ turn you, and take your journey, and go to the hill-country of the Amorites and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the Arabah, in the hill-country, and in the Lowland, and in the South, and by the sea-shore; the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.

⁷ voltai-vos e empreendei vossa jornada, e ide ao monte dos amorreus, e a todos os lugares próximos, pela planície, pelas colinas, e pelo vale, e pelo sul, e pela beira-mar, à terra dos cananeus, e ao Líbano, ao grande rio, o rio Eufrates.

⁸ Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD swore unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.'

⁸ Eis que coloquei a terra diante de vós; ide e possuí a terra que o SENHOR jurou a vossos pais, Abraão, Isaque e Jacó, que daria a eles e à sua semente depois deles.

⁹ And I spoke unto you at that time, saying: 'I am not able to bear you myself alone;

⁹ E eu vos falei naquela ocasião, e disse: Não poderei levar-vos sozinho;

¹⁰ the LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.--

¹⁰ o SENHOR vosso Deus vos multiplicou e eis que sois hoje, uma multidão como as estrelas dos céus.

¹¹ The LORD, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as He hath promised you!--

¹¹ (O SENHOR Deus dos vossos pais vos faça que sejais mil vezes mais do que já sois, e vos abençoe, como vos prometeu!)

¹² How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

¹² Como posso sozinho suportar as vossas cargas, os vossos fardos, e as vossas contendas?

¹³ Get you, from each one of your tribes, wise men, and understanding, and full of knowledge, and I will make them heads over you.'

¹³ Tomai homens sábios, e de entendimento, e conhecidos entre as vossas tribos, e os colocarei como líderes sobre vós.

¹⁴ And ye answered me, and said: 'The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do.'

¹⁴ E me respondestes, e dissestes: É bom que nós façamos o que dizes.

¹⁵ So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and full of knowledge, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers, tribe by tribe.

¹⁵ Assim, tomei os chefes das vossas tribos, homens sábios e conhecidos, e fiz deles cabeças sobre vós, capitães sobre milhares e capitães sobre centenas, e capitães sobre cinquenta, e capitães sobre dezenas, e oficiais entre vossas tribos.

¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, saying: 'Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.

¹⁶ E, naquela ocasião, ordenei aos vossos juízes, dizendo: Ouvi as causas entre os vossos irmãos, e julgai com justiça entre cada homem e seu irmão, e o estrangeiro que está com ele.

¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; ye shall hear the small and the great alike; ye shall not be afraid of the face of any man; for the judgment is God's; and the cause that is too hard for you ye shall bring unto me, and I will hear it.'

¹⁷ Não fareis diferenças entre pessoas em juízo, mas ouvireis os pequenos, bem como os grandes; não temereis a face do homem, porque o juízo é de Deus, e a causa que vos for difícil, a trareis diante de mim, e eu a ouvirei.

¹⁸ And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.

¹⁸ E vos ordenei, naquela ocasião, todas as coisas que deveríeis fazer.

¹⁹ And we journeyed from Horeb, and went through all that great and dreadful wilderness which ye saw, by the way to the hill- country of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.

¹⁹ E quando partimos de Horebe, passamos por todo aquele grande e terrível deserto, que vistes pelo caminho dos montes dos amorreus, como o SENHOR nosso Deus nos ordenou; e chegamos a Cades-Barneia.

²⁰ And I said unto you: 'Ye are come unto the hill-country of the Amorites, which the LORD our God giveth unto us.

²⁰ E eu vos disse: Chegastes aos montes dos amorreus, que o SENHOR nosso Deus nos dá.

²¹ Behold, the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee; go up, take possession, as the LORD, the God of thy fathers, hath spoken unto thee; fear not, neither be dismayed.'

²¹ Eis que o SENHOR teu Deus coloca a terra diante de ti; vai e possui-a, como o SENHOR Deus dos teus pais te disse; não temas, nem te desanimes.

²² And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said: 'Let us send men before us, that they may search the land for us, and bring us back word of the way by which we must go up, and the cities unto which we shall come.'

²² E vos aproximastes de mim, cada um de vós, e dissestes: Enviaremos homens diante de nós, e eles espiarão a terra, e nos dirão por qual caminho devemos subir, e as cidades que iremos.

²³ And the thing pleased me well; and I took twelve men of you, one man for every tribe;

²³ E o dizer me agradou bem, e tomei doze homens dentre vós, um de cada tribo;

²⁴ and they turned and went up into the mountains, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and spied it out.

²⁴ e eles foram e subiram o monte, e chegaram ao vale de Escol, e o espiaram.

²⁵ And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us back word, and said: 'Good is the land which the LORD our God giveth unto us.'

²⁵ E eles tomaram em suas mãos o fruto da terra, e o trouxeram até nós, e nos trouxeram a palavra, e disseram: É uma terra boa a que o SENHOR nosso Deus nos dá.

²⁶ Yet ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God;

²⁶ Mesmo assim, não quisestes subir, mas vos rebelastes contra a ordem do SENHOR vosso Deus;

²⁷ and ye murmured in your tents, and said: 'Because the LORD hated us, He hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

²⁷ e murmurastes em vossas tendas, e dissestes: Portanto o SENHOR nos odeia, e nos trouxe da terra do Egito, para nos entregar nas mãos dos amorreus, para nos destruir.

²⁸ Whither are we going up? our brethren have made our heart to melt, saying: The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.'

²⁸ Para onde subiremos? Nossos irmãos desanimaram os nossos corações, dizendo: Esse povo é maior e mais alto do que nós; as cidades são grandes e muradas até os céus; além disso, vimos ali os filhos dos anaquins.

²⁹ Then I said unto you: 'Dread not, neither be afraid of them.

²⁹ Então, eu vos disse: Não vos amedronteis, nem os temais.

³⁰ The LORD your God who goeth before you, He shall fight for you, according to all that He did for you in Egypt before your eyes;

³⁰ O SENHOR vosso Deus, que vai diante de vós, pelejará por vós, conforme tudo o que fez por nós, no Egito, diante dos vossos olhos;

³¹ and in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bore thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came unto this place.

³¹ e no deserto, onde vistes como o SENHOR teu Deus vos levou, como um homem leva seu filho, por todo o caminho em que fostes, até que chegastes a este lugar.

³² Yet in this thing ye do not believe the LORD your God,

³² No entanto, nisto não crestes no SENHOR vosso Deus,

³³ Who went before you in the way, to seek you out a place to pitch your tents in: in fire by night, to show you by what way ye should go, and in the cloud by day.'

³³ que foi pelo caminho diante de vós, para vos achar um lugar onde pudésseis armar vossas tendas, à noite no fogo, para vos mostrar por qual caminho devíeis andar, e de dia na nuvem.

³⁴ And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and swore, saying:

³⁴ E o SENHOR ouviu a voz das vossas palavras, e irou-se, e jurou, dizendo:

³⁵ 'Surely there shall not one of these men, even this evil generation, see the good land, which I swore to give unto your fathers,

³⁵ Certamente, nenhum dos homens desta maligna geração verá a boa terra que jurei dar aos vossos pais,

³⁶ save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, he shall see it; and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children; because he hath wholly followed the LORD.'

³⁶ exceto Calebe, filho de Jefoné; ele a verá, e a terra que pisou darei a ele e a seus filhos, porque seguiu fielmente o SENHOR.

³⁷ Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying: Thou also shalt not go in thither;

³⁷ o SENHOR também se irou comigo, por vossa causa, e disse: Tu também não entrarás lá.

³⁸ Joshua the son of Nun, who standeth before thee, he shall go in thither; encourage thou him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

³⁸ Mas Josué, filho de Num, que está diante de vós, entrará lá; encoraja-o, pois ele fará com que Israel herde a terra.

³⁹ Moreover your little ones, that ye said should be a prey, and your children, that this day have no knowledge of good or evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

³⁹ Além disso, vossas crianças, que dissestes que seriam uma presa, e vossos filhos, que naquele dia não tinham conhecimento entre o bem e o mal, entrarão na terra, e a eles a darei, e eles a possuirão.

⁴⁰ But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.'

⁴⁰ Mas quanto a vós, virai-vos e empreendei vossa jornada para o deserto, pelo caminho do mar Vermelho.

⁴¹ Then ye answered and said unto me: 'We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us.' And ye girded on every man his weapons of war, and deemed it a light thing to go up into the hill-country.

⁴¹ Então respondestes e me dissestes: Pecamos contra o SENHOR; subiremos e pelejaremos, conforme tudo o que o SENHOR nosso Deus nos ordenou. E depois que havíeis cingido cada homem as suas armas de guerra, e estivestes prestes a subir o monte.

⁴² And the LORD said unto me: 'Say unto them: Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.'

⁴² E o SENHOR me disse: Dize a eles: Não subais, nem pelejeis, pois eu não estou entre vós; para que não sejais feridos diante de vossos inimigos.

⁴³ So I spoke unto you, and ye hearkened not; but ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and were presumptuous, and went up into the hill-country.

⁴³ E eu vos falei, e não ouvistes, mas vos rebelastes contra a ordem do SENHOR, e subistes com arrogância o monte.

⁴⁴ And the Amorites, that dwell in that hill-country, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and beat you down in Seir, even unto Hormah.

⁴⁴ E os amorreus, que habitavam naquele monte, vieram contra vós, e vos perseguiram, como fazem as abelhas, e vos destruíram em Seir até Horma.

⁴⁵ And ye returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD hearkened not to your voice, nor gave ear unto you.

⁴⁵ E voltastes, e chorastes diante do SENHOR; mas o SENHOR não ouviu a vossa voz, nem vos deu ouvidos.

⁴⁶ So ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode there.

⁴⁶ Assim, permanecestes em Cades por muitos dias, segundo os dias que estivestes ali.
