¹ Now there happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite; and he blew the horn, and said: 'We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse; every man to his tents, O Israel.'

¹ E ocorreu de haver ali um homem de Belial, cujo nome era Seba, o filho de Bicri, um benjamita; e ele soprou uma trombeta, e disse: Não temos parte alguma em Davi, tampouco temos herança no filho de Jessé: cada homem para a sua tenda, ó Israel.

² So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah did cleave unto their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.

² Assim, todos os homens de Israel deixaram de seguir Davi, e seguiram Seba, o filho de Bicri; porém, os homens de Judá se apegaram ao seu rei, desde o Jordão até Jerusalém.

³ And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and provided them with sustenance, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, in widowhood, with their husband alive.

³ E Davi chegou à sua casa em Jerusalém; e o rei tomou as dez mulheres, as suas concubinas, as quais ele havia deixado para cuidar da casa, e as pôs sob guarda, e as alimentou, mas não entrou a elas. Assim, elas ficaram trancadas até o dia da sua morte, vivendo em viuvez.

⁴ Then said the king to Amasa: 'Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be thou here present.'

⁴ Então, o rei disse a Amasa: Reúne-me os homens de Judá dentro de três dias, e estejas tu aqui presente.

⁵ So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together; but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.

⁵ Assim, Amasa foi reunir os homens de Judá; porém, ele tardou além da hora marcada que ele lhe havia indicado.

⁶ And David said to Abishai: 'Now will Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom; take thou thy lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.'

⁶ E Davi disse a Abisai: Agora Seba, o filho de Bicri, far-nos-á mais mal do que nos fez Absalão; toma tu os servos do teu senhor e persegue-o, para que ele não conquiste para si cidades fortificadas e escape de nós.

⁷ And there went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

⁷ E ali saíram atrás dele os homens de Joabe, e os quereteus, e os peleteus, e todos os valentes; e eles saíram de Jerusalém, para perseguir Seba, o filho de Bicri.

⁸ When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. And Joab was girded with his apparel of war that he had put on, and thereon was a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.

⁸ Quando eles estavam junto à pedra grande que fica em Gibeão, Amasa foi adiante deles. E as vestes de Joabe, que ele havia posto, estavam nele cingidas; e sobre ela um cinto com uma espada presa sobre o seu lombo, na sua bainha, e enquanto ele avançava, ela caiu.

⁹ And Joab said to Amasa: 'Is it well with thee, my brother?' And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

⁹ E Joabe disse a Amasa: Estás tu com saúde, meu irmão? E Joabe pegou Amasa pela barba com a mão direita para beijá-lo.

¹⁰ But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand; so he smote him therewith in the groin, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

¹⁰ Porém, Amasa não prestou atenção à espada que estava na mão de Joabe; assim ele o feriu com ela na quinta costela, e derramou as suas entranhas no chão, e não voltou a atingi-lo; e ele morreu. Assim, Joabe e Abisai, o seu irmão, perseguiram Seba, o filho de Bicri.

¹¹ And there stood by him one of Joab's young men, and said: 'He that favoureth Joab, and he that is for David let him follow Joab.'

¹¹ E um dos homens de Joabe pôs-se de pé ao seu lado, e disse: Aquele que favorecer Joabe, e aquele que for por Davi, que siga Joabe.

¹² And Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.

¹² E Amasa chafurdava-se no sangue, no meio do caminho principal. E quando o homem viu que todo o povo permanecia imóvel, ele removeu Amasa do caminho principal para o campo, e lançou um pano sobre ele, quando viu que todos os que se aproximavam dele ficavam imóveis.

¹³ When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

¹³ Quando ele foi removido do caminho principal, todo o povo continuou atrás de Joabe, para perseguir Seba, o filho de Bicri.

¹⁴ And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Beth-maacah, and all the Berites; and they were gathered together, and went in also after him.

¹⁴ E ele foi por todas as tribos de Israel até Abel, e até Bete-Maaca, e todos os beritas; e eles foram reunidos, e também foram atrás dele.

¹⁵ And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood in the moat; and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.

¹⁵ E eles chegaram e o sitiaram em Abel de Bete-Maaca, e eles ergueram um aterro encostado à cidade, e este ficava dentro de uma trincheira; e todo o povo que estava com Joabe golpeou a muralha, para lançá-la abaixo.

¹⁶ Then cried a wise woman out of the city: 'Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab: Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.'

¹⁶ Então uma mulher sábia gritou da cidade: Ouvi, ouvi; dizei, rogo-vos, a Joabe: Vem aqui mais perto, para que eu possa falar contigo.

¹⁷ And he came near unto her; and the woman said: 'Art thou Joab?' And he answered: 'I am.' Then she said unto him: 'Hear the words of thy handmaid.' And he answered: 'I do hear.'

¹⁷ E quando ele se aproximou dela, a mulher disse: És tu Joabe? E ele respondeu: Eu Sou Ele. Então, ela disse a ele: Ouve as palavras de tua criada. E ele respondeu: Estou ouvindo.

¹⁸ Then she spoke, saying: 'They were wont to speak in old time, saying: They shall surely ask counsel at Abel; and so they ended the matter.

¹⁸ Então ela falou, dizendo: Eles estavam acostumados a falar em tempos antigos, dizendo: Eles certamente pedirão conselho a Abel; e assim eles encerravam a questão.

¹⁹ We are of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel; seekest thou to destroy a city and a mother in Israel? why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?'

¹⁹ Sou eu uma das pacíficas e das fiéis em Israel; tu buscas destruir uma cidade e uma mãe em Israel; por que queres engolir a herança do SENHOR?

²⁰ And Joab answered and said: 'Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.

²⁰ E Joabe respondeu, e disse: Longe esteja isto, longe esteja de mim engolir ou destruir.

²¹ The matter is not so; but a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David; deliver him only, and I will depart from the city.' And the woman said unto Joab: 'Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.'

²¹ A questão não é assim; mas um homem do monte Efraim, Seba, filho de Bicri por nome, levantou a sua mão contra o rei, contra o próprio Davi; entrega-mo somente, e partirei da cidade. E a mulher disse a Joabe: Eis que a sua cabeça te será lançada por sobre a muralha.

²² Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. And he blew the horn, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

²² Então a mulher foi a todo o povo em sua sabedoria; e eles cortaram a cabeça de Seba, o filho de Bicri, e a lançaram para Joabe. E ele soprou uma trombeta, e eles se retiraram da cidade, cada homem para a sua tenda. E Joabe retornou a Jerusalém, para o rei.

²³ Now Joab was over all the host of Israel; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites;

²³ Ora, Joabe estava sobre todo o exército de Israel; e Benaia, o filho de Joiada, estava sobre os quereteus e sobre os peleteus;

²⁴ and Adoram was over the levy; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder;

²⁴ e Adorão estava sobre o tributo; e Josafá, o filho de Ailude era o escrivão;

²⁵ and Sheva was scribe; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

²⁵ e Seva era escriba; e Zadoque e Abiatar eram os sacerdotes;

²⁶ and Ira also the Jairite was chief minister unto David.

²⁶ e também Ira, o jairita, era o governador-mor junto a Davi.
