¹ And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run before him.

¹ E sucedeu, depois disso, que Absalão preparou para si carruagens e cavalos, e cinquenta homens que corressem adiante dele.

² And Absalom used to rise up early, and stand beside the way of the gate; and it was so, that when any man had a suit which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said: 'Of what city art thou?' And he said: 'Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.'

² E Absalão se levantou cedo, e se pôs ao lado do caminho do portão; e assim foi que, quando qualquer homem que tinha uma controvérsia vinha até o rei para juízo, então Absalão o chamava, e dizia: De que cidade és tu? E ele dizia: O teu servo é de uma das tribos de Israel.

³ And Absalom said unto him: 'See, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man deputed of the king to hear thee.'

³ E Absalão lhe dizia: Vê, as tuas questões são boas e retas; porém não há homem algum designado pelo rei para te ouvir.

⁴ Absalom said moreover: 'Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!'

⁴ Absalão disse ainda: Ah se eu fosse feito juiz na terra, para que cada homem que tivesse qualquer processo ou causa pudesse vir até mim, e eu lhe faria justiça!

⁵ And it was so, that when any man came nigh to prostrate himself before him, he put forth his hand, and took hold of him, and kissed him.

⁵ E assim foi que, quando qualquer homem dele se aproximava para lhe prestar reverência, ele estendia a sua mão, pegava-o e o beijava.

⁶ And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

⁶ E deste modo fazia Absalão a todo o Israel que vinha até o rei para juízo; assim Absalão roubou os corações dos homens de Israel.

⁷ And it came to pass at the end of forty years, that Absalom said unto the king: 'I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto the LORD, in Hebron.

⁷ E sucedeu que, depois de quarenta anos, Absalão disse ao rei: Rogo-te, deixa-me ir pagar o meu voto, o qual votei ao SENHOR, em Hebrom.

⁸ For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Aram, saying: If the LORD shall indeed bring me back to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.'

⁸ Porque o teu servo votou um voto enquanto eu permaneci em Gesur, na Síria, dizendo: Se o SENHOR me trouxer de volta a Jerusalém, então servirei o SENHOR.

⁹ And the king said unto him: 'Go in peace.' So he arose, and went to Hebron.

⁹ E o rei disse a ele: Vai em paz. Então ele se levantou e seguiu para Hebrom.

¹⁰ But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying: 'As soon as ye hear the sound of the horn, then ye shall say: Absalom is king in Hebron.'

¹⁰ Absalão, no entanto, enviou espiões a todas as tribos de Israel, dizendo: Tão logo ouvirdes o som da trombeta, direis: Absalão reina em Hebrom.

¹¹ And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were invited, and went in their simplicity; and they knew not any thing.

¹¹ E com Absalão foram duzentos homens de Jerusalém, que foram chamados; e eles foram na sua simplicidade, e não sabiam de nada.

¹² And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.

¹² E Absalão enviou a Aitofel, o gilonita, o conselheiro de Davi, da sua cidade de Giló, enquanto ele oferecia sacrifícios. E a conspiração foi forte; porque o povo aumentava continuamente com Absalão.

¹³ And there came a messenger to David, saying: 'The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.'

¹³ E ali chegou um mensageiro a Davi, dizendo: Os corações dos homens de Israel estão com Absalão.

¹⁴ And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem: 'Arise, and let us flee; or else none of us shall escape from Absalom; make speed to depart, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.'

¹⁴ E Davi disse a todos os seus servos que estavam com ele em Jerusalém: Levantai-vos e fujamos; pois, de outra sorte, não escaparemos de Absalão; apressai-vos para partir, para que ele não nos alcance subitamente, e traga o mal sobre nós, e fira a cidade com o fio da espada.

¹⁵ And the king's servants said unto the king: 'Behold, thy servants are ready to do whatsoever my lord the king shall choose.'

¹⁵ E os servos do rei disseram ao rei: Eis que os teus servos estão prontos para fazer qualquer coisa que o meu senhor, o rei, indicar.

¹⁶ And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, that were concubines, to keep the house.

¹⁶ E o rei seguiu, e após ele toda a sua casa. E o rei deixou dez mulheres, as quais eram concubinas, para cuidar da casa.

¹⁷ And the king went forth, and all the people after him; and they tarried in Beth-merhak.

¹⁷ E o rei se foi, e após ele todo o povo, e esperou em um local afastado.

¹⁸ And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men that came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.

¹⁸ E todos os seus servos passaram adiante dele; e todos os quereteus, e todos os peleteus e todos os geteus, seiscentos homens, os quais vieram atrás dele desde Gate, passaram adiante do rei.

¹⁹ Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite: 'Wherefore goest thou also with us? return, and abide with the king; for thou art a foreigner, and also an exile from thine own place.

¹⁹ Então disse o rei a Itai, o geteu: Por que tu vais também conosco? Retorna ao teu lugar, e permanece com o rei; porque tu és um estrangeiro, e também um exilado.

²⁰ Whereas thou camest but yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us, seeing I go whither I may? return thou, and take back thy brethren with thee in kindness and truth.'

²⁰ Posto que vieste somente ontem, deveria eu, hoje, fazer-te subir e descer conosco? Vendo que vou para onde posso, retorna, e traz de volta os teus irmãos; misericórdia e verdade sejam contigo.

²¹ And Ittai answered the king, and said: 'As the LORD liveth, and as my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, even there also will thy servant be.'

²¹ E Itai respondeu ao rei, e disse: Como o SENHOR vive, e como o meu senhor, o rei, vive, certamente no lugar em que o senhor, o rei, estiver, seja na morte ou vida, ali também estará o teu servo.

²² And David said to Ittai: 'Go and pass over.' And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him.

²² E Davi disse a Itai: Vai e atravessa. E Itai, o geteu, atravessou, e todos os seus homens, e todos os pequeninos que estavam com ele.

²³ And all the country wept with a loud voice, as all the people passed over; and as the king passed over the brook Kidron, all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.

²³ E toda a terra chorou com voz alta, e todo o povo atravessou; o rei também atravessou o ribeiro de Cedrom, e todo o povo atravessou, em direção ao caminho do deserto.

²⁴ And, lo, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God; and they set down the ark of God--but Abiathar went up--until all the people had done passing out of the city.

²⁴ E eis que também Zadoque, e todos os levitas estavam com ele, carregando a arca do pacto de Deus; e eles assentaram a arca de Deus; e Abiatar subiu, até que todo o povo terminou de sair da cidade.

²⁵ And the king said unto Zadok: 'Carry back the ark of God into the city; if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, He will bring me back, and show me both it, and His habitation;

²⁵ E o rei disse a Zadoque: Carrega de novo a arca de Deus para dentro da cidade; se eu achar favor aos olhos do SENHOR, ele me trará de novo, e me mostrará tanto ela, quanto a sua habitação;

²⁶ but if He say thus: I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let Him do to me as seemeth good unto Him.'

²⁶ mas se ele assim disser: Não tenho em ti deleite algum; eis que aqui estou, que ele faça comigo como bem lhe parecer.

²⁷ The king said also unto Zadok the priest: 'Seest thou? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

²⁷ O rei disse também a Zadoque, o sacerdote: Não és tu um vidente? Retorna à cidade em paz, e convosco os vossos dois filhos, Aimaás, o teu filho e Jônatas, o filho de Abiatar.

²⁸ See, I will tarry in the plains of the wilderness, until there come word from you to announce unto me.'

²⁸ Vê que esperarei na planície do deserto, até que ali chegue palavra vinda de ti para me certificar.

²⁹ Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem; and they abode there.

²⁹ Portanto, Zadoque e Abiatar carregaram a arca de Deus de volta a Jerusalém; e eles esperaram ali.

³⁰ And David went up by the ascent of the mount of Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered, and went barefoot; and all the people that were with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.

³⁰ E Davi subiu pela subida do Monte das Oliveiras, e chorava enquanto subia, e tinha a cabeça coberta, e seguia de pés descalços; e todo o povo que estava com ele cobria, cada qual, a sua cabeça, e subiam, chorando enquanto subiam.

³¹ And one told David, saying: 'Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.' And David said: 'O LORD, I pray Thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.'

³¹ E contaram a Davi, dizendo: Aitofel está entre os conspiradores de Absalão. E Davi disse: Ó SENHOR, rogo-te, torna em loucura o conselho de Aitofel.

³² And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the ascent, where God was wont to be worshipped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head.

³² E sucedeu que, quando Davi chegou ao topo do monte, onde ele adorava a Deus, eis que Husai, o arquita, veio encontrá-lo com as suas vestes rasgadas, e terra sobre a sua cabeça;

³³ And David said unto him: 'If thou passest on with me, then thou wilt be a burden unto Me;

³³ a quem Davi disse: Se passares adiante comigo, então tu serás um fardo para mim;

³⁴ but if thou return to the city, and say unto Absalom: I will be thy servant, O king; as I have been thy father's servant in time past, so will I now be thy servant; then wilt thou defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.

³⁴ mas, se retornares à cidade, e disseres a Absalão, serei teu servo, ó rei; como eu fui servo do teu pai até aqui, assim serei, agora, também teu servo; então poderás derrotar o conselho de Aitofel para mim.

³⁵ And hast thou not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? therefore it shall be, that what thing soever thou shalt hear out of the king's house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

³⁵ E não tens tu aí contigo Zadoque e Abiatar, os sacerdotes? Portanto será que qualquer coisa que ouvires da casa do rei, tu a contarás a Zadoque e a Abiatar, os sacerdotes.

³⁶ Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok's son, and Jonathan Abiathar's son; and by them ye shall send unto me every thing that ye shall hear.'

³⁶ Eis que eles têm ali com eles os seus dois filhos, Aimaás, filho de Zadoque, e Jônatas, filho de Abiatar; e por eles vós enviareis a mim tudo o que puderes ouvir.

³⁷ So Hushai David's friend came into the city; and Absalom was at the point of coming into Jerusalem.

³⁷ Assim, Husai, o amigo de Davi, entrou na cidade, e Absalão entrou em Jerusalém.
