1 Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
1 Amazias tinha 25 anos quando começou a reinar, e reinou em Jerusalém por 29 anos. Sua mãe se chamava Jeoadã e era de Jerusalém.
2 And he did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not with a whole heart.
2 Amazias fez o que era certo aos olhos do S enhor , mas não de todo o coração.
3 Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established unto him, that he slew his servants who had killed the king his father.
3 Quando Amazias se firmou no poder, executou os oficiais que haviam assassinado seu pai.
4 But he put not their children to death, but did according to that which is written in the law in the book of Moses, as the LORD commanded, saying: 'The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.'
4 Contudo, não matou os filhos dos assassinos, em obediência ao mandamento do S enhor registrado por Moisés no Livro da Lei: “Os pais não serão executados por causa do pecado dos filhos, nem os filhos por causa do pecado dos pais. Aqueles que merecem morrer deverão ser executados por causa de seus próprios crimes”.
5 Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and ordered them according to their fathers' houses, under captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, even all Judah and Benjamin; and he numbered them from twenty years old and upward, and found them three hundred thousand chosen men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.
5 Amazias organizou o exército e nomeou generais e capitães para todo o Judá e para Benjamim. Fez um censo e constatou que tinha um exército de trezentos mil soldados de elite, com mais de 20 anos, todos treinados no uso da espada e do escudo.
6 He hired also a hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for a hundred talents of silver.
6 Também pagou 3.500 quilos de prata para contratar cem mil guerreiros experientes de Israel.
7 But there came a man of God to him, saying: 'O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, even with all the children of Ephraim.
7 Então um homem de Deus foi até ele e lhe disse: “Ó rei, não contrate soldados de Israel, pois o S enhor não está com Israel. Ele não ajudará o povo de Efraim!
8 But if thou wilt go, and do engage never so valiantly in battle, God will cast thee down before the enemy; for God hath power to help, and to cast down.'
8 Se deixar que acompanhem seus soldados na batalha, mesmo que lutem com coragem, serão derrotados pelo inimigo. Deus o derrubará, pois ele tem poder para ajudá-lo ou fazê-lo tropeçar”.
9 And Amaziah said to the man of God: 'But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?' And the man of God answered: 'The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.'
9 Amazias perguntou ao homem de Deus: “E quanto à prata que paguei para contratar o exército de Israel?”. O homem de Deus respondeu: “O S
10 Then Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go back home; wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.
10 Então Amazias dispensou os soldados que havia contratado e os mandou de volta para Efraim. Eles ficaram furiosos com Judá e voltaram para casa indignados.
11 And Amaziah took courage, and led forth his people, and went to the Valley of Salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.
11 Amazias criou coragem e conduziu seu exército até o vale do Sal, onde mataram dez mil soldados edomitas da região de Seir.
12 And other ten thousand did the children of Judah carry away alive, and brought them unto the top of the Rock, and cast them down from the top of the Rock, that they all were broken in pieces.
12 Capturaram outros dez mil e os levaram para o alto de um penhasco, de onde os atiraram, e eles se despedaçaram.
13 But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote of them three thousand, and took much spoil.
13 Enquanto isso, os soldados que Amazias havia contratado e depois mandado de volta atacaram muitas cidades de Judá entre Samaria e Bete-Horom. Mataram três mil pessoas e levaram grande quantidade de despojos.
14 Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and prostrated himself before them, and offered unto them.
14 Quando o rei Amazias voltou da matança dos edomitas, trouxe os deuses que havia tomado do povo de Seir. Estabeleceu-os como seus próprios deuses, prostrou-se diante deles e ofereceu-lhes sacrifícios.
15 Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and He sent unto him a prophet, who said unto him: 'Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of thy hand?'
15 O S enhor se irou grandemente e lhe enviou um profeta para perguntar: “Por que você se volta para deuses que não foram capazes nem de salvar de suas mãos o próprio povo deles?”.
16 And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him: 'Have we made thee of the king's counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten?' Then the prophet forbore, and said: 'I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.'
16 O rei, porém, o interrompeu e disse: “Desde quando você é conselheiro do rei? Cale-se antes que eu mande matá-lo!”. O profeta parou, mas o advertiu: “Sei que Deus resolveu destruí-lo, porque você fez isso e porque não quis aceitar meu conselho”.
17 Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying: 'Come, let us look one another in the face.'
17 Depois de consultar seus conselheiros, Amazias, rei de Judá, enviou este desafio a Jeoás, filho de Jeoacaz e neto de Jeú, rei de Israel: “Venha enfrentar-me numa batalha!”.
18 And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying: 'The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying: Give thy daughter to my son to wife; and there passed by the wild beasts that were in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle.
18 Mas Jeoás, rei de Israel, respondeu a Amazias, rei de Judá, com a seguinte história: “Nos montes do Líbano, o espinheiro enviou esta mensagem ao poderoso cedro: ‘Dê sua filha em casamento a meu filho’. No entanto, um animal selvagem do Líbano veio, pisoteou o espinheiro e o esmagou.
19 Thou sayest--lo, thou hast smitten Edom; will thy heart therefore lift thee up to glory therein? abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle with evil, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?'
19 “Você diz: ‘Derrotei Edom’, e está muito orgulhoso disso. Mas meu conselho é que fique em casa. Por que causar problemas que só trarão desgraça sobre você e o povo de Judá?”.
20 But Amaziah would not hear; for it was of God, that He might deliver them into the hand of their enemies , because they had sought after the gods of Edom.
20 Amazias, porém, se recusou a ouvir, pois Deus havia resolvido destruí-lo por ter se voltado para os deuses de Edom.
21 So Joash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
21 Então Jeoás, rei de Israel, mobilizou seu exército contra Amazias, rei de Judá. Os dois exércitos se enfrentaram em Bete-Semes, em Judá.
22 And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.
22 O exército de Judá foi derrotado pelo exército de Israel, e os soldados fugiram para casa.
23 And Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
23 Jeoás, rei de Israel, capturou Amazias, filho de Joás e neto de Acazias, em Bete-Semes. Trouxe-o para Jerusalém, onde destruiu 180 metros do muro da cidade, desde a porta de Efraim até a porta da Esquina.
24 And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king's house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.
24 Levou embora todo o ouro, toda a prata e todos os utensílios do templo de Deus guardados por Obede-Edom. Também levou os tesouros do palácio real e fez reféns; depois, voltou para Samaria.
25 And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
25 Amazias, filho de Joás, rei de Judá, viveu ainda mais quinze anos depois da morte de Jeoás, filho de Jeoacaz, rei de Israel.
26 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?
26 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Amazias, do início ao fim, estão registrados no Livro dos Reis de Judá e de Israel .
27 Now from the time that Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.
27 Depois que Amazias se afastou do S enhor , houve uma conspiração contra ele em Jerusalém, e ele fugiu para Laquis. Seus inimigos, porém, mandaram assassinos atrás dele e o mataram ali.
28 And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
28 Seu corpo foi trazido de volta para Jerusalém num cavalo, e ele foi sepultado com seus antepassados na Cidade de Davi.
