1 Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance; and he allied himself with Ahab by marriage.
1 Josafá, muito rico e respeitado, aliou-se a Acabe por meio do casamento de seu filho com a filha de Acabe.
2 And after a lapse of years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that were with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramoth-gilead.
2 Alguns anos depois, foi a Samaria visitar Acabe, que ofereceu a ele e a seus oficiais um enorme banquete, para o qual abateu um grande número de ovelhas e bois. Então Acabe persuadiu Josafá a unir forças com ele para recuperar Ramote-Gileade.
3 And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah: 'Wilt thou go with me to Ramoth-gilead?' And he answered him: 'I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and we will be with thee in the war.'
3 Acabe, rei de Israel, perguntou a Josafá, rei de Judá: “Você irá comigo a Ramote-Gileade?”. Josafá respondeu: “Claro que sim! Você e eu somos como um só. Meus soldados são seus soldados. Certamente iremos com você à batalha!”.
4 And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel: 'Inquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD today.'
4 E acrescentou: “Antes, porém, consulte o S enhor ”.
5 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said unto them: 'Shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?' And they said: 'Go up; for God will deliver it into the hand of the king.'
5 Então o rei de Israel convocou os profetas, cerca de quatrocentos no total, e perguntou: “Devemos ir à guerra contra Ramote-Gileade ou não?”. Todos eles responderam: “Sim, devem! Deus entregará o inimigo nas mãos do rei”.
6 But Jehoshaphat said: 'Is there not here besides a prophet of the LORD, that we might inquire of him?'
6 Josafá, porém perguntou: “Acaso não há aqui um profeta do S enhor ? Devemos consultá-lo também”.
7 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat: 'There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD; but I hate him; for he never prophesieth good concerning me, but always evil; the same is Micaiah the son of Imla.' And Jehoshaphat said: 'Let not the king say so.'
7 O rei de Israel respondeu a Josafá: “Há mais um homem que pode consultar o S enhor para nós, mas eu o odeio, pois nunca profetiza nada de bom a meu respeito, só coisas ruins! Chama-se Micaías, filho de Inlá”. “O rei não devia falar assim”, respondeu Josafá.
8 Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said: 'Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.'
8 Então o rei de Israel chamou um de seus oficiais e disse: “Traga Micaías, filho de Inlá. Rápido!”.
9 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, and they sat in a threshing-floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.
9 Vestidos com seus trajes reais, o rei de Israel e Josafá, rei de Judá, estavam sentados cada um em seu trono na eira junto à porta de Samaria. Todos os profetas estavam profetizando diante deles.
10 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said: 'Thus saith the LORD: With these shalt thou gore the Arameans, until they be consumed.'
10 Um dos profetas, Zedequias, filho de Quenaaná, fez chifres de ferro e declarou: “Assim diz o S enhor : ‘Com estes chifres o rei ferirá os sírios até a morte!’”.
11 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying: 'Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper; for the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king.'
11 Todos os outros profetas concordaram, dizendo: “Sim, suba a Ramote-Gileade e seja vitorioso, pois o S enhor a entregará nas mãos do rei!”.
12 And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying: 'Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth; let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak thou good.'
12 Enquanto isso, o mensageiro que foi buscar Micaías lhe disse: “Veja, todos os profetas prometem vitória para o rei. Concorde com eles e também prometa sucesso”.
13 And Micaiah said: 'As the LORD liveth, what my God saith, that will I speak.'
13 Micaías, porém, respondeu: “Tão certo como vive o S enhor , direi apenas o que meu Deus ordenar”.
14 And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him: 'Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?' And he said: 'Go ye up, and prosper; and they shall be delivered into your hand.'
14 Quando Micaías chegou, o rei lhe perguntou: “Micaías, devemos ir à guerra contra Ramote-Gileade ou não?”. Micaías respondeu: “Sim, suba e será vitorioso, pois eles serão entregues em suas mãos!”.
15 And the king said to him: 'How many times shall I adjure thee that thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD.'
15 Mas o rei disse: “Quantas vezes preciso exigir que diga somente a verdade quando falar em nome do S enhor ?”.
16 And he said: 'I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd; and the LORD said: These have no master, let them return every man to his house in peace.'
16 Então Micaías respondeu: “Vi todo o Israel espalhado pelos montes, como ovelhas sem pastor. E o S enhor disse: ‘Seu líder foi morto. Mande-os para casa em paz’”.
17 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat: 'Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?'
17 O rei de Israel disse a Josafá: “Não falei? Ele nunca profetiza nada de bom a meu respeito, mas apenas coisas ruins”.
18 And he said: 'Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting upon His throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right hand and on His left.
18 Micaías prosseguiu: “Ouça o que o S enhor diz! Vi o S enhor sentado em seu trono, com todo o exército do céu ao redor, à sua direita e à sua esquerda.
19 And the LORD said: who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one spoke saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.
19 E o S enhor perguntou: ‘Quem enganará Acabe, rei de Israel, para que vá à guerra contra Ramote-Gileade e seja morto ali?’. “Houve muitas sugestões,
20 And there came forth the spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said: I will entice him. And the LORD said unto him: Wherewith?
20 até que, por fim, um espírito se aproximou do S enhor e disse: ‘Eu o enganarei!’. “‘De que maneira?’, perguntou o S
21 And he said: I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And He said: Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevail also; go forth, and do so.
21 “E o espírito respondeu: ‘Sairei e porei um espírito mentiroso na boca de todos os seus profetas’. “O S
22 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets; and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.'
22 “Como vê, o S enhor pôs um espírito mentiroso na boca de todos os seus profetas, pois o S enhor decretou sua desgraça”.
23 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah upon the check, and said: 'Which way went the spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?'
23 Então Zedequias, filho de Quenaaná, se aproximou de Micaías e lhe deu uma bofetada. “Como foi que o Espírito do S enhor me deixou para falar com você?”, perguntou ele.
24 And Micaiah said: 'Behold, thou shalt see on that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.'
24 Micaías respondeu: “Você descobrirá em breve, quando tentar se esconder em algum quarto secreto!”.
25 And the king of Israel said: 'Take ye Micaiah; and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;
25 Então o rei de Israel ordenou: “Prendam Micaías e levem-no de volta a Amom, governador da cidade, e a meu filho Joás,
26 and say: Thus saith the king: Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with scant bread and with scant water, until I return in peace.'
26 com a seguinte ordem: ‘Ponham este homem na prisão e deem-lhe apenas pão e água até que eu volte da batalha em segurança!’”.
27 And Micaiah said: 'If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me.' And he said: 'Hear, ye peoples, all of you.'
27 Micaías, porém, respondeu: “Se voltar em segurança, significará que o S enhor não falou por meu intermédio!”. E acrescentou aos que estavam ao redor: “Todos vocês, prestem atenção às minhas palavras!”.
28 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the kind of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.
28 Então o rei de Israel e Josafá, rei de Judá, levaram seus exércitos para atacar Ramote-Gileade.
29 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat: 'I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but put thou on thy robes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went into the battle.
29 O rei de Israel disse a Josafá: “Quando entrarmos no combate, usarei um disfarce para que ninguém me reconheça, mas você vestirá seus trajes reais”. O rei de Israel se disfarçou, e os dois foram à batalha.
30 Now the king of Aram had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying: 'Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.'
30 Enquanto isso, o rei da Síria tinha dado as seguintes ordens aos comandantes dos carros de guerra: “Ataquem somente o rei de Israel. Não lutem contra ninguém mais!”.
31 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said: 'It is the king of Israel.' Therefore they turned about to fight against him; but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.
31 Quando os comandantes dos carros de guerra sírios viram Josafá em seus trajes reais, foram atrás dele. “É o rei de Israel!”, disseram. Contudo, Josafá clamou, e o S enhor o salvou. Deus o ajudou e afastou dele seus inimigos.
32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.
32 Assim que os comandantes dos carros perceberam que ele não era o rei de Israel, pararam de persegui-lo.
33 And a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the lower armour and the breastplate; wherefore he said to the driver of the chariot: 'Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore wounded.'
33 Então um soldado sírio disparou uma flecha a esmo e acertou o rei de Israel entre as juntas de sua armadura. “Dê a volta e tire-me daqui!”, exclamou Acabe para o condutor de seu carro. “Estou gravemente ferido!”
34 And the battle increased that day; howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Arameans until the even; and about the time of the going down of the sun he died.
34 A batalha, cada vez mais violenta, prosseguiu durante todo o dia, e o rei permaneceu em pé, apoiado em seu carro, de frente para os sírios. Ao entardecer, quando o sol se punha, ele morreu.
