1 Now the Philistines had taken the ark of God, and they brought it from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod.
1 E os filisteus levaram a arca de Deus, e a trouxeram de Ebenézer até Asdode.
2 And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
2 Quando os filisteus levaram a arca de Deus, eles a trouxeram à casa de Dagom, e a puseram junto a Dagom.
3 And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
3 E, quando os de Asdode se levantaram pela manhã, eis que Dagom estava caído com a face em terra diante da arca do SENHOR. E eles pegaram Dagom, e o colocaram no seu lugar novamente.
4 And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands lay cut off upon the threshold; only the trunk of Dagon was left to him.
4 E quando eles se levantaram cedo pela manhã, eis que Dagom estava caído com a face em terra diante da arca do SENHOR; e a cabeça de Dagom e ambas as palmas das suas mãos estavam cortadas sobre a soleira; somente o tronco de Dagom lhe foi deixado.
5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.
5 Portanto, nem os sacerdotes de Dagom, nem qualquer pessoa que entrava na casa de Dagom, pisava na soleira de Dagom em Asdode até este dia.
6 But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and He destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the borders thereof.
6 Porém, a mão do SENHOR foi pesada sobre os de Asdode, e ele os destruiu, e os feriu com hemorroidas, até Asdode e os seus termos.
7 And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said: 'The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us; for His hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.'
7 E, quando os homens de Asdode viram que assim era, eles disseram: A arca do Deus de Israel não permanecerá conosco; pois a sua mão é severa sobre nós, e sobre Dagom, nosso deus.
8 They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said: 'What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?' And they answered: 'Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath.' And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.
8 Então eles enviaram, e reuniram consigo todos os senhores dos filisteus, e disseram: O que faremos com a arca do Deus de Israel? E eles responderam: Que a arca do Deus de Israel seja carregada até Gate. E eles carregaram a arca do Deus de Israel para lá.
9 And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great discomfiture; and He smote the men of the city, both small and great, and emerods broke out upon them.
9 E assim foi que, depois de eles a terem carregado, a mão do SENHOR foi contra a cidade com uma destruição muitíssimo grande; e ele feriu os homens da cidade, tanto os pequenos como os grandes, e eles tiveram hemorroidas nas suas partes secretas.
10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying: 'They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.'
10 Portanto, enviaram a arca de Deus para Ecrom. E sucedeu que, assim que a arca de Deus chegou a Ecrom, os ecromitas clamaram, dizendo: Trouxeram a arca do Deus de Israel até nós para matar a nós e ao nosso povo.
11 They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said: 'Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go back to its own place, that it slay us not, and our people'; for there was a deadly discomfiture throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
11 Assim, eles enviaram e reuniram todos os senhores dos filisteus, e disseram: Mandai embora a arca do Deus de Israel, e deixem que volte para o seu próprio lugar, para que ela não mate a nós e ao nosso povo; pois havia uma destruição mortal em toda a cidade; a mão de Deus fora mui pesada ali.
12 And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
12 E os homens que não morreram foram feridos com hemorroidas; e o clamor da cidade subiu até o céu.
