1 Deposta adunque ogni malizia, ed ogni frode, e le ipocrisie, ed invidie, ed ogni maldicenza;
1 Deponde, pois, toda malícia, toda astúcia, fingimentos, invejas e toda espécie de maledicência.
2 come fanciulli pur ora nati, appetite il latte puro della parola, acciocchè per esso cresciate.
2 as newborn babes desire earnestly the pure mental milk of the word, that by it ye may grow up to salvation,
3 Se pure avete gustato che il Signore è buono;
3 if indeed ye have tasted that the Lord {is} good.
4 al quale accostandovi, come alla pietra viva, riprovata dagli uomini, ma dinanzi a Dio eletta, preziosa;

5 ancora voi, come pietre vive, siete edificati, per essere una casa spirituale, un sacerdozio santo, per offerire sacrificii spirituali, accettevoli a Dio per Gesù Cristo.
5 yourselves also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Per la qual cosa ancora è contenuto nella scrittura: Ecco, io pongo in Sion la pietra del capo del cantone, eletta, preziosa; e chi crederà in essa non sarà punto svergognato.
6 Because it is contained in the scripture: Behold, I lay in Zion a corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be put to shame.
7 A voi adunque, che credete, ella è quella cosa preziosa; ma a’ disubbidienti è, come è detto: La pietra, che gli edificatori hanno riprovata, è divenuta il capo del cantone, e pietra d’incappo, e sasso d’intoppo.
7 To you therefore who believe {is} the preciousness; but to the disobedient, the stone which the builders cast away as worthless, this is become head of {the} corner,
8 I quali s’intoppano nella parola, essendo disubbidienti; a che ancora sono stati posti.
8 and a stone of stumbling and rock of offence; {who} stumble at the word, being disobedient to which also they have been appointed.
9 Ma voi siete la generazione eletta; il real sacerdozio, la gente santa, il popolo d’acquisto; acciocchè predichiate le virtù di colui che vi ha dalle tenebre chiamati alla sua maravigliosa luce.
9 But *ye* {are} a chosen race, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a people for a possession, that ye might set forth the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness to his wonderful light;
10 I quali già non eravate popolo, ma ora siete popolo di Dio; a’ quali già non era stata fatta misericordia, ma ora vi è stata fatta misericordia.
10 who once {were} not a people, but now God's people; who were not enjoying mercy, but now have found mercy.
11 DILETTI, io vi esorto che, come avveniticci e forestieri, vi asteniate dalle carnali concupiscenze, le quali guerreggiano contro all’anima;
11 Beloved, I exhort {you}, as strangers and sojourners, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12 avendo una condotta onesta fra i Gentili; acciocchè, là dove sparlano di voi come di malfattori, glorifichino Iddio, nel giorno della visitazione, per le vostre buone opere, che avranno vedute
12 having your conversation honest among the Gentiles, that {as to that} in which they speak against you as evildoers, they may through {your} good works, {themselves} witnessing {them}, glorify God in {the} day of visitation.
13 Siate adunque soggetti ad ogni podestà creata dagli uomini, per l’amor del Signore: al re, come al sovrano;

14 ed ai governatori, come a persone mandate da lui, in vendetta de’ malfattori, e in lode di quelli che fanno bene.
14 or to rulers as sent by him, for vengeance on evildoers, and praise to them that do well.
15 Perciocchè tale è la volontà di Dio: che facendo bene, turiate la bocca all’ignoranza degli uomini stolti;
15 Because so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye put to silence the ignorance of senseless men;
16 come liberi, ma non avendo la libertà per coverta di malizia; anzi, come servi di Dio.
16 as free, and not as having liberty as a cloak of malice, but as God's bondmen.
17 Onorate tutti, amate la fratellanza, temete Iddio, rendete onore al re.
17 Shew honour to all, love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king.
18 SERVI, siate con ogni timore, soggetti a’ vostri signori; non solo a’ buoni, e moderati; ma a’ ritrosi ancora.
18 Servants, {be} subject with all fear to your masters, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the ill-tempered.
19 Perciocchè questo è cosa grata, se alcuno, per la coscienza di Dio, sofferisce molestie, patendo ingiustamente.
19 For this {is} acceptable, if one, for conscience sake towards God, endure griefs, suffering unjustly.
20 Imperocchè, qual gloria è egli, se, peccando ed essendo puniti, voi il sofferite? ma, se facendo bene, e pur patendo, voi il sofferite, ciò è cosa grata dinnanzi a Iddio.
20 For what glory {is it}, if sinning and being buffeted ye shall bear {it}? but if, doing good and suffering, ye shall bear {it}, this is acceptable with God.
21 Poichè a questo siete stati chiamati; perciocchè Cristo ha patito anch’egli per noi, lasciandoci un esempio, acciocchè voi seguitiate le sue pedate.
21 For to this have ye been called; for Christ also has suffered for you, leaving you a model that ye should follow in his steps:
22 Il qual non fece alcun peccato, nè fu trovata frode alcuna nella sua bocca.
22 who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth;
23 Il quale, oltraggiato, non oltraggiava all’incontro; patendo, non minacciava; ma si rimetteva in man di colui che giudica giustamente.
23 who, {when} reviled, reviled not again; {when} suffering, threatened not; but gave {himself} over into the hands of him who judges righteously;
24 Il quale ha portato egli stesso i nostri peccati nel suo corpo, in sul legno; acciocchè, morti al peccato, viviamo a giustizia; per lo cui lividore voi siete stati sanati.
24 who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, in order that, being dead to sins, we may live to righteousness: by whose stripes ye have been healed.
25 Perciocchè voi eravate come pecore erranti; ma ora siete stati convertiti al Pastore, e al Vescovo delle anime vostre
25 For ye were going astray as sheep, but have now returned to the shepherd and overseer of your souls.
