1 Pvt them in remembrance that they bee subiect to the Principalities and powers, and that they bee obedient, and ready to euery good woorke,
1 Admoesta-os a que se sujeitem aos principados e potestades, que lhes obedeçam e estejam preparados para toda boa obra;
2 That they speake euill of no man, that they be no fighters, but soft, shewing all meekenesse vnto all men.
2 que a ninguém infamem, nem sejam contenciosos, mas modestos, mostrando toda mansidão para com todos os homens.
3 For wee our selues also were in times past vnwise, disobedient, deceiued, seruing the lustes and diuers pleasures, liuing in maliciousnes and enuie, hatefull, and hating one another:
3 Porque também nós éramos, noutro tempo, insensatos, desobedientes, extraviados, servindo a várias concupiscências e deleites, vivendo em malícia e inveja, odiosos, odiando-nos uns aos outros.
4 But when that bountifulnesse and that loue of God our Sauiour toward man appeared,
4 Mas, quando apareceu a benignidade e o amor de Deus, nosso Salvador, para com os homens,
5 Not by the woorkes of righteousnesse, which we had done, but according to his mercie he saued vs, by the washing of the newe birth, and the renewing of the holy Ghost,
5 não pelas obras de justiça que houvéssemos feito, mas, segundo a sua misericórdia, nos salvou pela lavagem da regeneração e da renovação do Espírito Santo,
6 Which he shed on vs aboundantly, through Iesus Christ our Sauiour,
6 que abundantemente ele derramou sobre nós por Jesus Cristo, nosso Salvador,
7 That we, being iustified by his grace, should be made heires according to the hope of eternall life.
7 para que, sendo justificados pela sua graça, sejamos feitos herdeiros, segundo a esperança da vida eterna.
8 This is a true saying, and these thinges I will thou shouldest affirme, that they which haue beleeued God, might be carefull to shewe foorth good woorkes. These things are good and profitable vnto men.
8 Fiel é a palavra, e isto quero que deveras afirmes, para que os que creem em Deus procurem aplicar-se às boas obras; estas coisas são boas e proveitosas aos homens.
9 But stay foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and brawlings about the Lawe: for they are vnprofitable and vaine.
9 Mas não entres em questões loucas, genealogias e contendas e nos debates acerca da lei; porque são coisas inúteis e vãs.
10 Reiect him that is an heretike, after once or twise admonition,
10 Ao homem herege, depois de uma e outra admoestação, evita-o,
11 Knowing that hee that is such, is peruerted, and sinneth, being damned of his owne selfe.
11 sabendo que esse tal está pervertido e peca, estando já em si mesmo condenado.
12 When I shall send Artemas vnto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to mee vnto Nicopolis: for I haue determined there to winter.
12 Quando te enviar Ártemas ou Tíquico, procura vir ter comigo a Nicópolis; porque deliberei invernar ali.
13 Bring Zenas the expounder of the Lawe, and Apollos on their iourney diligently, that they lacke nothing.
13 Acompanha, com muito cuidado, Zenas, doutor da lei, e Apolo, para que nada lhes falte.
14 And let ours also learne to shewe foorth good woorkes for necessary vses, that they be not vnfruitfull.
14 E os nossos aprendam também a aplicar-se às boas obras, nas coisas necessárias, para que não sejam infrutuosos.
15 All that are with mee, salute thee. Greete them that loue vs in the faith. Grace bee with you all, Amen. ‘To Titus, elect the first bishoppe of the Church of the Cretians, written from Nicopolis in Macedonia.’
