1 Goe to nowe, ye rich men: weepe, and howle for your miseries that shall come vpon you.
1 Ide, pois, agora vós, ricos, chorai e pranteai, por vossas misérias, que hão de vir sobre vós.
2 Your riches are corrupt, and your garments are moth eaten.
2 As vossas riquezas estão corrompidas, e as vossas vestes estão comidas por traça.
3 Your gold and siluer is cankred, and the rust of them shalbe a witnesse against you, and shall eate your flesh, as it were fire. Ye haue heaped vp treasure for the last dayes.
3 O vosso ouro e a vossa prata estão corroídos; e a sua ferrugem dará testemunho contra vós, e comerá a vossa carne como se fosse fogo. Amontoastes tesouros para os últimos dias.
4 Behold, the hire of ye labourers, which haue reaped your fieldes (which is of you kept backe by fraude) cryeth, and the cryes of them which haue reaped, are entred into the eares of the Lord of hostes.
4 Eis que o pagamento dos trabalhadores que ceifaram os vossos campos, e que por vós foi retido por fraude, clama; e os clamores daqueles que ceifaram entraram nos ouvidos do Senhor Sabaoth.
5 Ye haue liued in pleasure on the earth, and in wantonnes. Ye haue nourished your heartes, as in a day of slaughter.
5 Vivestes em prazer sobre a terra, e vos deleitastes; nutristes os vossos corações, como em um dia de matança.
6 Ye haue condemned and haue killed the iust, and he hath not resisted you.
6 Condenastes e matastes o justo; e ele não vos resistiu.
7 Be patient therefore, brethren, vnto the comming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman wayteth for the precious fruite of the earth, and hath long patience for it, vntill he receiue the former, and the latter rayne.
7 Sede, pois, pacientes, irmãos, até a vinda do Senhor. Eis que o lavrador espera o precioso fruto da terra, e o aguarda com longa paciência, até que receba a chuva temporã e serôdia.
8 Be ye also patient therefore and settle your hearts: for ye comming of the Lord draweth neere.
8 Sede vós também pacientes, fortalecei os vossos corações; porque a vinda do Senhor está próxima.
9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, least ye be condemned: behold, the iudge standeth before the doore.
9 Irmãos, não vos queixeis uns contra os outros, a fim de que não sejais condenados. Contemplai o juiz que está à porta.
10 Take, my brethren, the Prophets for an ensample of suffering aduersitie, and of long patience, which haue spoken in the Name of the Lord.
10 Tomai, meus irmãos, os profetas que falaram em nome do Senhor por exemplo de aflição e paciência.
11 Beholde, we count them blessed which endure. Ye haue heard of the patience of Iob, and haue knowen what ende the Lord made. For the Lord is very pitifull and mercifull.
11 Eis que temos por felizes os que sofrem. Ouvistes sobre a paciência de Jó, e vistes o fim que o Senhor lhe deu; porque o Senhor é muito compassivo, e de terna misericórdia.
12 But before all thinges, my brethren, sweare not, neither by heauen, nor by earth, nor by any other othe: but let your yea, be yea, and your nay, nay, lest ye fall into condemnation.
12 Mas, sobretudo, meus irmãos, não jureis, nem pelo céu, nem pela terra, nem façais qualquer outro juramento; mas que o vosso sim seja sim, e o vosso não, não; para que não caiais em condenação.
13 Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merie? Let him sing.
13 Está alguém entre vós aflito? Que ore. Está alguém feliz? Que cante salmos.
14 Is any sicke among you? Let him call for the Elders of the Church, and let them pray for him, and anoynt him with oyle in the Name of the Lord.
14 Está alguém entre vós doente? Que chame os anciãos da igreja, e orem sobre ele, ungindo-o com óleo em nome do Senhor.
15 And the prayer of faith shall saue the sicke, and the Lord shall raise him vp: and if he haue committed sinnes, they shalbe forgiuen him.
15 E a oração da fé salvará o doente, e o Senhor o levantará; e se ele houver cometido pecados, ser-lhe-ão perdoados.
16 Acknowledge your faultes one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed: for the prayer of a righteous man auaileth much, if it be feruent.
16 Confessai as vossas culpas uns aos outros, e orai uns pelos outros, para que possais ser curados. A oração eficaz e fervorosa de um homem justo vale muito.
17 Helias was a man subiect to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rayne, and it rayned not on the earth for three yeeres and sixe moneths.
17 Elias era homem sujeito às mesmas paixões que nós, e ele orou fervorosamente pedindo que não chovesse, e não choveu sobre a terra por um espaço de três anos e seis meses.
18 And he prayed againe, and the heauen gaue rayne, and the earth brought forth her fruite.
18 E ele orou outra vez, e o céu deu chuva, e a terra produziu o seu fruto.
19 Brethren, if any of you hath erred from the trueth, and some man hath conuerted him,
19 Irmãos, se algum dentre vós se tem desviado da verdade, e alguém o converter,
20 Let him know that he which hath conuerted the sinner from going astray out of his way, shall saue a soule from death, and shall hide a multitude of sinnes.
20 saiba ele que, aquele que converte um pecador do erro do seu caminho, salvará da morte uma alma, e cobrirá uma multidão de pecados.
