1 From whence are warres and contentions among you? are they not hence, euen of your pleasures, that fight in your members?
1 De onde vêm as lutas e as brigas entre vocês? Elas vêm dos maus desejos que estão sempre lutando dentro de vocês.
2 Ye lust, and haue not: ye enuie, and desire immoderately, and cannot obtaine: ye fight and warre, and get nothing, because ye aske not.
2 Vocês querem muitas coisas; mas, como não podem tê-las, estão prontos até para matar a fim de consegui-las. Vocês as desejam ardentemente; mas, como não conseguem possuí-las, brigam e lutam. Não conseguem o que querem porque não pedem a Deus.
3 Ye aske, and receiue not, because ye aske amisse, that ye might lay the same out on your pleasures.
3 E, quando pedem, não recebem porque os seus motivos são maus. Vocês pedem coisas a fim de usá-las para os seus próprios prazeres.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, knowe ye not that the amitie of the world is the enimitie of God? Whosoeuer therefore will be a friend of the world, maketh himselfe the enemie of God.
4 Gente infiel! Será que vocês não sabem que ser amigo do mundo é ser inimigo de Deus? Quem quiser ser amigo do mundo se torna inimigo de Deus.
5 Doe ye thinke that the Scripture sayeth in vaine, The spirit that dwelleth in vs, lusteth after enuie?
5 Não pensem que não quer dizer nada esta passagem das Escrituras Sagradas : “O espírito que Deus pôs em nós está cheio de desejos violentos.”
6 But the Scripture offereth more grace, and therefore sayth, God resisteth the proude, and giueth grace to the humble.
6 Porém a bondade que Deus mostra é ainda mais forte, pois as Escrituras Sagradas dizem: “Deus é contra os orgulhosos, mas é bondoso com os humildes.”
7 Submit your selues to God: resist the deuill, and he will flee from you.
7 Portanto, obedeçam a Deus e enfrentem o Diabo, que ele fugirá de vocês.
8 Drawe neere to God, and he will drawe neere to you. Clense your handes, ye sinners, and purge your hearts, ye double minded.
8 Cheguem perto de Deus, e ele chegará perto de vocês. Lavem as mãos, pecadores! Limpem o coração, hipócritas!
9 Suffer afflictions, and sorrowe ye, and weepe: let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your ioy into heauinesse.
9 Fiquem tristes, gritem e chorem. Mudem as suas risadas em choro e a sua alegria em tristeza.
10 Cast downe your selues before the Lord, and he will lift you vp.
10 Humilhem-se diante do Senhor, e ele os colocará numa posição de honra.
11 Speake not euill one of another, brethren. He that speaketh euill of his brother, or he that condemneth his brother, speaketh euill of ye Law, and condemneth the Lawe: and if thou condemnest the Lawe, thou art not an obseruer of the Lawe, but a iudge.
11 Meus irmãos, não falem mal uns dos outros. Quem fala mal do seu irmão em Cristo ou o julga está falando mal da lei e julgando-a. Pois, se você julga a lei, então já não é uma pessoa que obedece à lei, mas é alguém que a julga.
12 There is one Lawgiuer, which is able to saue, and to destroy. Who art thou that iudgest another man?
12 Deus é o único que faz as leis e o único juiz. Só ele pode salvar ou destruir. Quem você pensa que é, para julgar os outros?
13 Goe to now ye that say, To day or to morowe we will goe into such a citie, and continue there a yeere, and bye and sell, and get gaine,
13 Agora escutem, vocês que dizem: “Hoje ou amanhã iremos a tal cidade e ali ficaremos um ano fazendo negócios e ganhando muito dinheiro!”
14 (And yet ye cannot tell what shalbe to morowe. For what is your life? It is euen a vapour that appeareth for a litle time, and afterward vanisheth away)
14 Vocês não sabem como será a sua vida amanhã, pois vocês são como uma neblina passageira, que aparece por algum tempo e logo depois desaparece.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, and, if we liue, we will doe this or that.
15 O que vocês deveriam dizer é isto: “Se Deus quiser, estaremos vivos e faremos isto ou aquilo.”
16 But now ye reioyce in your boastings: all such reioycing is euill.
16 Porém vocês são orgulhosos e vivem se gabando. Todo esse orgulho é mau.
17 Therefore, to him that knoweth how to doe well, and doeth it not, to him it is sinne.
17 Portanto, comete pecado a pessoa que sabe fazer o bem e não faz.
