1 What is then the preferment of the Iewe? or what is the profite of circumcision?
1 Em que, então, se avantaja o judeu? Ou qual é a utilidade da circuncisão?
2 Much euery maner of way: for chiefly, because vnto them were of credite committed the oracles of God.
2 Muita, em todos os aspectos. Principalmente porque lhes foram confiados os oráculos de Deus.
3 For what, though some did not beleeue? shall their vnbeliefe make the faith of God without effect?
3 Mas então! Se alguns deles não foram fiéis, acaso a sua infidelidade destruirá a fidelidade de Deus?
4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, and euery man a lyar, as it is written, That thou mightest be iustified in thy words, and ouercome, when thou art iudged.
4 De modo algum. Porque Deus há de ser reconhecido como veraz, e todo homem como mentiroso, segundo está escrito: Assim, serás reconhecido justo nas tuas palavras e vencerás, quando julgares {Sl 50,6}.
5 Now if our vnrighteousnes comend the righteousnes of God, what shall we say? Is God vnrighteous which punisheth? (I speake as a man.)
5 Portanto, se a nossa injustiça realça a justiça de Deus, que diremos então? Para falar como os homens: não é injusto Deus quando descarrega a sua cólera?
6 God forbid: els how shall God iudge ye world?
6 Certo que não! De outra maneira, como julgaria Deus o mundo?
7 For if the veritie of God hath more abounded through my lye vnto his glorie, why am I yet condemned as a sinner?
7 Mas, se a verdade de Deus brilha ainda mais para a sua glória por minha mentira, por que serei eu ainda julgado pecador?
8 And (as we are blamed, and as some affirme, that we say) why doe we not euil, that good may come thereof? whose damnation is iust.
8 Então, por que não faríamos o mal para que dele venha o bem, expressão que os caluniadores, falsamente, nos atribuem? É justo que estes tais sejam condenados.
9 What then? are we more excellent? No, in no wise: for we haue alreadie prooued, that all, both Iewes and Gentiles are vnder sinne,
9 E então? Avantajamo-nos a eles? De maneira alguma. Pois já demonstramos que judeus e gregos estão todos sob o domínio do pecado, como está escrito:
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no not one.
10 Não há nenhum justo, não há sequer um.
11 There is none that vnderstandeth: there is none that seeketh God.
11 Não há um só que tenha inteligência, um só que busque a Deus.
12 They haue all gone out of the way: they haue bene made altogether vnprofitable: there is none that doeth good, no not one.
12 Extraviaram-se todos e todos se perverteram. Não há quem faça o bem, não há sequer um {Sl 13,lss}.
13 Their throte is an open sepulchre: they haue vsed their tongues to deceit: the poyson of aspes is vnder their lippes.
13 A sua garganta é um sepulcro aberto; com as suas línguas enganam; veneno de áspide está debaixo dos seus lábios {Sl 5,10; 139,4}.
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitternesse.
14 A sua boca está cheia de maldição e amargar {Sl 9,28}.
15 Their feete are swift to shead blood.
15 Os seus pés são velozes para derramar sangue.
16 Destruction and calamity are in their waies,
16 Há destruição e ruína nos seus caminhos,
17 And ye way of peace they haue not knowen.
17 e não conhecem o caminho da paz {Is 59,7s}.
18 The feare of God is not before their eies.
18 Não há temor a Deus diante dos seus olhos {Sl 35,2}.
19 Now we know that whatsoeuer ye Lawe saieth, it saieth it to them which are vnder ye Law, that euery mouth may bee stopped, and all the world be subiect to the iudgement of God.
19 Ora, sabemos que tudo o que diz a lei, di-lo aos que estão sujeitos à lei, para que toda boca fique fechada e que o mundo inteiro seja reconhecido culpado diante de Deus:
20 Therefore by the woorkes of the Lawe shall no flesh be iustified in his sight: for by the Lawe commeth the knowledge of sinne.
20 Porquanto pela observância da lei nenhum homem será justificado diante dele, porque a lei se limita a dar o conhecimento do pecado.
21 But nowe is the righteousnesse, of God made manifest without the Lawe, hauing witnes of the Lawe and of the Prophets,
21 Mas, agora, sem o concurso da lei, manifestou-se a justiça de Deus, atestada pela lei e pelos profetas.
22 To wit, the righteousnesse of God by the faith of Iesus Christ, vnto all, and vpon all that beleeue.
22 Esta é a a justiça de Deus pela fé em Jesus Cristo, para todos os fiéis {pois não há distinção;
23 For there is no difference: for all haue sinned, and are depriued of the glorie of God,
23 com efeito, todos pecaram e todos estão privados da glória de Deus},
24 And are iustified freely by his grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Iesus,
24 e são justificados gratuitamente por sua graça; tal é a obra da redenção, realizada em Jesus Cristo.
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a reconciliation through faith in his blood to declare his righteousnes, by the forgiuenesse of the sinnes that are passed,
25 Deus o destinou para ser, pelo seu sangue, vítima de propiciação mediante a fé. Assim, ele manifesta a sua justiça; porque no tempo de sua paciência, ele havia deixado sem castigo os pecados anteriores.
26 Through the patience of God, to shewe at this time his righteousnesse, that hee might be iust, and a iustifier of him which is of the faith of Iesus.
26 Assim, digo eu, ele manifesta a sua justiça no tempo presente, exercendo a justiça e justificando aquele que tem fé em Jesus.
27 Where is then the reioycing? It is excluded. By what Lawe? of woorkes? Nay: but by the Lawe of faith.
27 Onde está, portanto, o motivo de se gloriar? Foi eliminado. Por qual lei? Pela das obras? Não, mas pela lei da fé.
28 Therefore we conclude, that a man is iustified by faith, without the workes of the Lawe.
28 Porque julgamos que o homem é justificado pela fé, sem as observâncias da lei.
29 God, is he the God of the Iewes onely, and not of the Gentiles also? Yes, euen of the Gentiles also.
29 Ou Deus só o é dos judeus? Não é também Deus dos pagãos? Sim, ele o é também dos pagãos.
30 For it is one God, who shall iustifie circumcision of faith, and vncircumcision through faith.
30 Porque não há mais que um só Deus, o qual justificará pela fé os circuncisos e, também pela fé, os incircuncisos.
31 Doe we then make the Lawe of none effect through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the Lawe.
31 Destruímos então a lei pela fé? De modo algum. Pelo contrário, damos-lhe toda a sua força.
