1 And all the people assembled themselues together, in the streete that was before the watergate, and they spake vnto Ezra the Scribe, that hee would bring the booke of ye Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.
1 Em outubro, quando os israelitas já haviam se estabelecido em suas cidades, todo o povo se reuniu com um só propósito na praça em frente da porta das Águas. Pediram ao escriba Esdras que trouxesse o Livro da Lei de Moisés, que o S enhor tinha dado a Israel.
2 And Ezra the Priest brought the Lawe before the Congregation both of men and women, and of all that coulde heare and vnderstand it, in the first day of the seuenth moneth,
2 Assim, no dia 8 de outubro, o sacerdote Esdras trouxe o Livro da Lei perante a comunidade constituída de homens e mulheres e de todas as crianças com idade suficiente para entender.
3 And he read therein in the streete that was before the watergate (from the morning vntill the midday) before men and women, and them that vnderstoode it, and the eares of all the people hearkened vnto the booke of the Lawe.
3 Ficou de frente para a praça, junto à porta das Águas, desde o amanhecer até o meio-dia, e leu em voz alta para todos que podiam entender. Todo o povo ouviu com atenção a leitura do Livro da Lei.
4 And Ezra the Scribe stoode vpon a pulpit of wood which he had made for the preaching, and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Ananiah, and Vriiah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah on his right hande, and on his left hand Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
4 O escriba Esdras estava em pé sobre uma plataforma de madeira feita para a ocasião. À sua direita estavam Matitias, Sema, Anaías, Urias, Hilquias e Maaseias; à sua esquerda, Pedaías, Misael, Malquias, Hasum, Hasbadana, Zacarias e Mesulão.
5 And Ezra opened the booke before all the people: for hee was aboue all the people: and when he opened it, all the people stoode vp.
5 Esdras estava sobre a plataforma, à vista de todo o povo. Quando o viram abrir o Livro da Lei, todos se levantaram.
6 And Ezra praysed the Lord the great God, and all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting vp their handes: and they bowed themselues, and worshipped the Lord with their faces toward the grounde.
6 Esdras louvou o S enhor , o grande Deus, e todo o povo disse: “Amém! Amém!”, com as mãos erguidas. Depois, prostraram-se com o rosto no chão e adoraram o S enhor .
7 Also Ieshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Iamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Iozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Leuites caused the people to vnderstand the lawe, and the people stood in their place.
7 Em seguida, os levitas Jesua, Bani, Serebias, Jamim, Acube, Sabetai, Hodias, Maaseias, Quelita, Azarias, Jozabade, Hanã e Pelaías instruíram o povo acerca da Lei, e todos permaneceram em seus lugares.
8 And they read in the booke of the Lawe of God distinctly, and gaue the sense, and caused them to vnderstand the reading.
8 Liam o Livro da Lei de Deus, explicavam com clareza o significado do que era lido e ajudavam o povo a entender cada passagem.
9 Then Nehemiah (which is Tirshatha) and Ezra the Priest and scribe, and the Leuites that instructed the people, saide vnto all the people, This day is holie vnto ye Lord your God: mourne not, neither weepe: for all the people wept, whe they heard the words of the Lawe.
9 Então o governador Neemias, o sacerdote e escriba Esdras e os levitas que instruíam o povo disseram: “Não se lamentem nem chorem num dia como este! Hoje é um dia consagrado ao S enhor , seu Deus!”. Pois todo o povo chorava enquanto ouvia as palavras da Lei.
10 He saide also vnto the, Go, and eate of the fat, and drinke the sweete, and send part vnto them, for whome none is prepared: for this day is holie vnto our Lord: be ye not sorie therefore: for the ioy of the Lord is your strength.
10 E Neemias prosseguiu: “Vão e comemorem com um banquete de comidas saborosas e bebidas doces e repartam o alimento com aqueles do povo que não prepararam nada. Este é um dia consagrado ao nosso Senhor. Não fiquem tristes, pois a alegria do S enhor é sua força!”.
11 And the Leuites made silence throughout all the people, saying, Holde your peace: for the day is holy, be not sad therefore.
11 Os levitas também acalmaram o povo, dizendo: “Aquietem-se! Não fiquem tristes! Hoje é um dia santo!”.
12 Then all the people went to eate and to drinke, and to send away part, and to make great ioy, because they had vnderstand the wordes that they had taught them.
12 Então o povo saiu para comer e beber numa refeição festiva, para repartir o alimento e celebrar com grande alegria, pois tinham ouvido e entendido as palavras de Deus.
13 And on the second day the chiefe fathers of all the people, the Priests and the Leuites were gathered vnto Ezra the scribe, that he also might instruct them in the wordes of the Lawe.
13 No dia 9 de outubro, os chefes de todas as famílias do povo, junto com os sacerdotes e os levitas, reuniram-se com o escriba Esdras para examinar a Lei mais atentamente.
14 And they found written in the Law, (that the Lord had commanded by Moses) that the children of Israel should dwel in boothes in the feast of the seuenth moneth,
14 Enquanto estudavam a Lei, descobriram que o S enhor havia ordenado por meio de Moisés que os israelitas morassem em cabanas durante a festa a ser comemorada naquele mês.
15 And that they shoulde cause it to bee declared and proclaimed in all their cities, and in Ierusalem, saying, Go forth vnto the mount, and bring oliue branches, and pine branches, and branches of myrtus, and palme branches, and branches of thicke trees, to make boothes, as it is written.
15 Ele tinha dito que se devia fazer uma proclamação por todas as suas cidades e em Jerusalém, para que o povo fosse até os montes apanhar ramos de oliveiras cultivadas e oliveiras silvestres, ramos de murtas, de palmeiras e de outras árvores frondosas. Deviam usar esses ramos para construir as cabanas, conforme prescrito pela Lei.
16 So the people went foorth and brought them, and made them boothes, euerie one vpon the roofe of his house, and in their courtes, and in the courtes of the house of God, and in the streete by the watergate, and in the streete of the gate of Ephraim.
16 O povo saiu, cortou ramos e os usou para construir cabanas nos terraços das casas, nos seus pátios, nos pátios do templo de Deus, na praça junto à porta das Águas e na praça junto à porta de Efraim.
17 And all the Congregation of them that were come againe out of the captiuitie made boothes, and sate vnder the boothes: for since the time of Ieshua the sonne of Nun vnto this day, had not the children of Israel done so, and there was very great ioy.
17 Então todos que haviam regressado do cativeiro moraram nessas cabanas durante a festa, e todos estavam cheios de grande alegria. Os israelitas não celebravam a festa dessa maneira desde os dias de Josué, filho de Num.
18 And he read in the booke of the Lawe of God euery day, from the first day vnto the last day. and they kept the feast seuen dayes, and on the eight day a solemne assemblie, according vnto the maner.
18 Durante os sete dias da festa, Esdras leu o Livro da Lei de Deus a cada dia. Então, no oitavo dia, realizaram uma reunião solene, conforme prescrito.
