1 O bloody citie, it is all full of lyes, and robberie: the pray departeth not:
1 Ai de Nínive, cidade cruel, cheia de mentiras e de violência, onde não faltam crimes!
2 The noyse of a whippe, and the noyse of the mouing of the wheeles, and the beating of the horses, and the leaping of the charets.
2 Escutem o estalo dos chicotes e o barulho das rodas! Aí vêm os cavalos galopando, os carros de guerra vêm correndo!
3 The horseman lifteth vp both the bright sword, and the glittering speare, and a multitude is slaine, and the dead bodyes are many: there is none ende of their corpses: they stumble vpon their corpses,
3 Os cavaleiros atacam com espadas brilhantes e lanças reluzentes. Mortos por toda parte, milhares de cadáveres; os soldados tropeçam nos corpos dos mortos.
4 Because of the multitude of the fornications of the harlot that is beautifull, and is a mistresse of witchcraft, and selleth the people thorow her whoredome, and the nations thorowe her witchcrafts.
4 Nínive, a prostituta, está sendo castigada! Bela e encantadora, com as suas feitiçarias ela conquistava os povos e os prendia com a sua prostituição.
5 Beholde, I come vpon thee, saith the Lord of hostes, and will discouer thy skirtes vpon thy face, and will shewe the nations thy filthines, and the kingdomes thy shame.
5 O Senhor Todo-Poderoso diz: “Nínive, eu estou contra você. Vou tirar o seu vestido e deixá-la nua para que todos a vejam assim, para que vejam a sua desgraça.
6 And I will cast filth vpon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gasing stocke.
6 Vou tratá-la com desprezo e cobri-la de sujeira; todos olharão para você horrorizados.
7 And it shall come to passe, that al they that looke vpon thee, shall flee from thee, and say, Nineueh is destroyed, who will haue pitie vpon her? where shall I seeke comforters for thee?
7 Todos os que a virem fugirão, dizendo: ‘Nínive está arrasada!’ Quem terá pena de você? Onde vou achar quem a console?”
8 Art thou better then No, which was ful of people? that lay in the riuers, and had the waters round about it? whose ditche was the sea, and her wall was from the sea?
8 Nínive, será que você é melhor do que Tebas, a capital do Egito? Ela também era protegida por um rio: o rio Nilo era como um muro que a defendia.
9 Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and there was none ende: Put and Lubim were her helpers.
9 Tebas dominava o Egito e a Etiópia; ela era a cidade mais poderosa do mundo, e o país da Líbia era o seu aliado.
10 Yet was she caried awaye, and went into captiuitie: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the head of all the streetes: and they cast lottes for her noble men, and al her myghtie men were bound in chaines.
10 Mesmo assim, o povo de Tebas foi feito prisioneiro; eles foram levados para fora do seu país, as crianças foram esmagadas nas esquinas das ruas, e os inimigos tiraram sorte para ver quem ficava com as pessoas mais importantes e depois as levaram embora presas com correntes.
11 Also thou shalt bee drunken: thou shalt hide thy selfe, and shalt seeke helpe because of the enemie.
11 Nínive, você também vai ficar bêbada e vai andar atrapalhada, procurando fugir do inimigo.
12 All thy strong cities shall be like figtrees with the first ripe figs: for if they be shaken, they fall into the mouth of the eater.
12 Todas as suas fortalezas são como figueiras cheias de figos maduros: é só sacudir a figueira, e os figos caem na boca de quem quiser comer.
13 Beholde, thy people within thee are women: the gates of thy land shalbe opened vnto thine enemies, and ye fire shall deuoure thy barres.
13 Os seus soldados são fracos como mulheres, e os portões da cidade estão abertos. O inimigo pode entrar à vontade, pois o fogo destruiu as fechaduras.
14 Drawe thee waters for the siege: fortifie thy strong holdes: go into the clay, and temper the morter: make strong bricke.
14 Guardem água em reservatórios, para que não falte quando o exército inimigo cercar a cidade, e reforcem as fortalezas. Amassem barro e preparem as formas para fazer tijolos.
15 There shall ye fire deuoure thee: the sword shall cut thee off: it shall eate thee vp like the locustes, though thou bee multiplied like the locustes, and multiplyed like the grashopper.
15 Mesmo assim, vocês vão morrer no fogo ou na batalha; o inimigo acabará com vocês como os gafanhotos acabam com as colheitas. Tornem-se tão numerosos como os gafanhotos!
16 Thou hast multiplied thy marchantes aboue the starres of heauen: the locust spoileth and flyeth away.
16 Há entre vocês mais negociantes do que estrelas no céu. Mas agora eles foram embora, como gafanhotos que batem as asas e saem voando.
17 Thy princes are as the grashoppers, and thy captaines as the great grashoppers which remaine in the hedges in the colde day: but when the sunne ariseth, they flee away and their place is not knowen where they are.
17 As suas autoridades e os seus funcionários são como gafanhotos que pousam nas paredes quando faz frio; mas, logo que o sol começa a brilhar, eles saem voando, e ninguém sabe para onde foram.
18 Thy shepheardes doe sleepe, O King of Asshur: thy strong men lie downe: thy people is scattered vpon the mountaines, and no man gathereth them.
18 O rei da Assíria e os seus governadores estão mortos, e os seus generais também morreram. O seu povo está espalhado pelas montanhas, e não há ninguém para juntá-los de novo.
19 There is no healing of thy wounde: thy plague is grieuous: all that heare the brute of thee, shall clap the handes ouer thee: for vpon whome hath not thy malice passed continually?
19 Não há remédio para as suas feridas; elas não têm cura. Todos os que ouvem falar da sua desgraça ficam alegres e batem palmas. Pois não há ninguém que tenha escapado da sua crueldade que nunca se acaba.
