1 The destroyer is come before thy face: keepe the munition: looke to the way: make thy loynes strong: increase thy strength mightily.
1 O destruidor vai atacar a cidade de Nínive. Ponham guardas nas torres e vigiem as estradas. Chamem todos os soldados e preparem-se para lutar.
2 For the Lord hath turned away the glorie of Iaakob, as the glorie of Israel: for the emptiers haue emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.
2 O Senhor Deus vai fazer voltar a glória do povo de Israel; mais uma vez a nação será o que era antes que os inimigos levassem tudo embora e deixassem o país como uma árvore sem galhos.
3 The shield of his mightie men is made red: the valiant men are in skarlet: the charets shalbe as in the fire and flames in the day of his preparation, and the firre trees shall tremble.
3 Os soldados inimigos carregam escudos vermelhos, e os seus uniformes são vermelhos também. Eles se preparam para atacar Nínive. Os seus carros de guerra brilham como fogo, e os cavalos estão impacientes.
4 The charets shall rage in the streetes: they shall runne to and from in the hie wayes: they shall seeme like lampes: they shall shoote like the lightning.
4 Os carros de guerra correm rápidos pelas ruas e cruzam as praças em todas as direções. Parecem tochas acesas, correm como relâmpagos.
5 He shall remember his strong men: they shall stumble as they goe: they shall make haste to the walles thereof, and the defence shall bee prepared.
5 O comandante inimigo dá ordem aos seus oficiais; eles correm até a muralha da cidade e, na sua corrida, empurram uns aos outros. Eles armam barreiras para se protegerem .
6 The gates of the riuers shalbe opened, and the palace shall melt.
6 Abrem-se as comportas do rio, e no palácio reina o terror.
7 And Huzzab the Queene shalbe led away captiue, and her maides shall leade her as with the voyce of doues, smiting vpon their breastes.
7 A imagem da deusa é levada embora, e as suas sacerdotisas a acompanham chorando; elas gemem como pombas e batem no peito em sinal de tristeza.
8 But Nineueh is of olde like a poole of water: yet they shall flee away. Stande, stande, shall they crie: but none shall looke backe.
8 O povo de Nínive foge como água que escapa de uma represa. “Parem! Parem!” — alguém grita, mas ninguém para de fugir.
9 Spoyle ye the siluer, spoyle the golde: for there is none ende of the store, and glorie of all the pleasant vessels.
9 Peguem a prata! Levem o ouro! A cidade está cheia de riquezas, há milhares de objetos de valor.
10 She is emptie and voyde and waste, and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and sorowe is in all loynes, and the faces of the all gather blackenesse.
10 Nínive: destruída, deserta, despovoada! Corações cheios de medo, joelhos tremendo, rostos pálidos; todos perdem as forças.
11 Where is the dwelling of the lyons, and the pasture of the lyons whelpes? where the lyon, and the lionesse walked, and the lyons whelpe, and none made them afrayde.
11 O que aconteceu com a cidade que era como uma cova de leões? Ali os leõezinhos recebiam comida; os leões e os seus filhotes viviam seguros, e ninguém os espantava.
12 The lyon did teare in pieces ynough for his whelpes, and woryed for his lyonesse, and filled his holes with praye, and his dennes with, spoyle.
12 O leão matava algum animal e o repartia com a leoa e os filhotes; a cova ficava cheia de animais mortos.
13 Beholde, I come vnto thee, sayeth the Lord of hostes, and I will burne her charets in the smoke, and the sworde shall deuoure thy yong lyons, and I will cut off thy spoyle from the earth, and the voyce of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
13 O Senhor Todo-Poderoso diz o seguinte ao povo de Nínive: — Eu estou contra vocês. Vou queimar os seus carros de guerra, e os seus soldados morrerão na batalha. Levarei embora tudo o que vocês roubaram dos outros, e nunca mais os seus embaixadores irão para outros países.
