1 Moreouer, the men of Israel sware in Mizpeh, saying, None of vs shall giue his daughter vnto the Beniamites to wyfe.
1 Ora, haviam jurado os homens de Israel em Mispa, dizendo: Nenhum de nós dará sua filha por mulher aos benjamitas.
2 And the people came vnto ye house of God and abode there till euen before God, and lift vp their voyces, and wept with great lamentation,
2 Veio o povo a Betel, e ali ficaram até à tarde diante de Deus, e levantaram a voz, e prantearam com grande pranto.
3 And sayde, O Lord God of Israel, why is this come to passe in Israel, that this day one tribe of Israel should want?
3 Disseram: Ah! Senhor , Deus de Israel, por que sucedeu isto em Israel, que, hoje, lhe falte uma tribo?
4 And on the morow the people rose vp and made there an altar, and offred burnt offrings and peace offrings.
4 Ao dia seguinte, o povo, pela manhã, se levantou e edificou ali um altar; e apresentaram holocaustos e ofertas pacíficas.
5 Then the children of Israel said, Who is he among all the tribes of Israel, that came not vp with the Congregation vnto the Lord? for they had made a great othe concerning him that came not vp to the Lord to Mizpeh, saying, Let him die the death.
5 Disseram os filhos de Israel: Quem de todas as tribos de Israel não subiu à assembleia do Senhor ? Porque se tinha feito um grande juramento acerca do que não viesse ao Senhor a Mispa, que dizia: Será morto.
6 And the children of Israel were sory for Beniamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.
6 Os filhos de Israel tiveram compaixão de seu irmão Benjamim e disseram: Foi, hoje, eliminada uma tribo de Israel.
7 How shall we do for wiues to them that remaine, seeing we haue sworne by the Lord, that we will not giue them of our daughters to wiues?
7 Como obteremos mulheres para os restantes deles, pois juramos, pelo Senhor , que das nossas filhas não lhes daríamos por mulheres?
8 Also they saide, Is there any of the tribes of Israel that came not vp to Mizpeh to the Lord? and beholde, there came none of Iabesh Gilead vnto the hoste and to the Congregation.
8 E disseram: Há alguma das tribos de Israel que não tenha subido ao Senhor a Mispa? E eis que ninguém de Jabes-Gileade viera ao acampamento, à assembleia.
9 For when the people were vewed; beholde, none of the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead were there.
9 Quando se contou o povo, eis que nenhum dos moradores de Jabes-Gileade se achou ali.
10 Therefore the Congregation sent thither twelue thousande men of the most valiant, and commanded them, saying, Goe, and smite the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, both women, and children.
10 Por isso, a congregação enviou lá doze mil homens dos mais valentes e lhes ordenou, dizendo: Ide e, a fio de espada, feri os moradores de Jabes-Gileade, e as mulheres, e as crianças.
11 And this is it that ye shall do: ye shall vtterly destroye all the males and all the women that haue lien by men.
11 Isto é o que haveis de fazer: a todo homem e a toda mulher que se houver deitado com homem destruireis.
12 And they found among the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead foure hundreth maides, virgins that had knowne no man by lying with any male: and they brought them vnto the hoste to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
12 Acharam entre os moradores de Jabes-Gileade quatrocentas moças virgens, que não se deitaram com homem; e as trouxeram ao acampamento, a Siló, que está na terra de Canaã.
13 Then the whole Congregation sent and spake with the children of Beniamin that were in the rocke of Rimmon, and called peaceably vnto them:
13 Toda a congregação, pois, enviou mensageiros aos filhos de Benjamim que estavam na penha Rimom, e lhes proclamaram a paz.
14 And Beniamin came againe at that time, and they gaue them wiues which they had saued aliue of the women of Iabesh Gilead: but they had not so ynough for them.
14 Nesse mesmo tempo, voltaram os benjamitas; e se lhes deram por mulheres as que foram conservadas com vida, das de Jabes-Gileade; porém estas ainda não lhes bastaram.
15 And the people were sorie for Beniamin, because the Lord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
15 Então, o povo teve compaixão de Benjamim, porquanto o Senhor tinha feito brecha nas tribos de Israel.
16 Therefore the Elders of the Congregation said, How shall we doe for wiues to the remnant? for the women of Beniamin are destroyed.
16 Disseram os anciãos da congregação: Como obteremos mulheres para os restantes ainda, pois foram exterminadas as mulheres dos benjamitas?
17 And they saide, there must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Beniamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.
17 Disseram mais: A herança dos que ficaram de resto não na deve perder Benjamim, visto que nenhuma tribo de Israel deve ser destruída.
18 Howbeit we may not giue them wiues of our daughters: for the childre of Israel had sworne, saying, Cursed be he that giueth a wise to Beniamin.
18 Porém nós não lhes poderemos dar mulheres de nossas filhas, porque os filhos de Israel juraram, dizendo: Maldito o que der mulher aos benjamitas.
19 Therefore they said, Beholde, there is a feast of the Lord euery yere in Shiloh in a place, which is on the Northside of Beth-el, and on the Eastside of the way that goeth vp from Beth-el to Shechem, and on the South of Lebonah.
19 Então, disseram: Eis que, de ano em ano, há solenidade do Senhor em Siló, que se celebra para o norte de Betel, do lado do nascente do sol, pelo caminho alto que sobe de Betel a Siquém e para o sul de Lebona.
20 Therefore they commanded the children of Beniamin, saying, Goe, and lye in waite in the vineyardes.
20 Ordenaram aos filhos de Benjamim, dizendo: Ide, e emboscai-vos nas vinhas,
21 And when ye see that the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catche you euery man a wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and goe into the land of Beniamin.
21 e olhai; e eis aí, saindo as filhas de Siló a dançar em rodas, saí vós das vinhas, e arrebatai, dentre elas, cada um sua mulher, e ide-vos à terra de Benjamim.
22 And when their fathers or their brethren come vnto vs to complaine, we wil say vnto them, Haue pitie on them for our sakes, because we reserued not to eche man his wife in the warre, and because ye haue not giuen vnto them hitherto, ye haue sinned.
22 Quando seus pais ou seus irmãos vierem queixar-se a nós, nós lhes diremos: por amor de nós, tende compaixão deles, pois, na guerra contra Jabes-Gileade, não obtivemos mulheres para cada um deles; e também não lhes destes, pois neste caso ficaríeis culpados.
23 And the children of Beniamin did so, and tooke wiues of them that danced according to their nomber: which they tooke, and went away, and returned to their inheritance, and repaired the cities and dwelt in them.
23 Assim fizeram os filhos de Benjamim e levaram mulheres conforme o número deles, das que arrebataram das rodas que dançavam; e foram-se, voltaram à sua herança, reedificaram as cidades e habitaram nelas.
24 So the children of Israel departed thence at that time, euery man to his tribe, and to his familie, and went out from thence euery man to his inheritance.
24 Então, os filhos de Israel também partiram dali, cada um para a sua tribo, para a sua família e para a sua herança.
25 In those dayes there was no King in Israel, but euery man did that which was good in his eyes.
25 Naqueles dias, não havia rei em Israel; cada um fazia o que achava mais reto.
