1 Then all the children of Israel went out, and the Congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, vnto the Lord in Mizpeh.
1 Por causa disso todo o povo de Israel, desde Dã, no Norte, até Berseba, no Sul, e Gileade, no Leste, se reuniu em Mispa. Eles se reuniram na presença de Deus, o Senhor , como se fossem uma só pessoa.
2 And the chiefe of all the people, and all the tribes of Israel assembled in the Congregation of the people of God foure hundreth thousand footemen that drewe sword.
2 Os chefes de todas as tribos de Israel estavam presentes nessa reunião do povo de Deus. Havia quatrocentos mil homens a pé, treinados para a guerra.
3 (Now the children of Beniamin heard that the children of Israel were gone vp to Mizpeh) Then the children of Israel saide, Howe is this wickednesse committed?
3 E o povo de Benjamim soube que todos os outros israelitas haviam subido até Mispa e que eles queriam saber como aquele crime havia sido cometido.
4 And the same Leuite, the womans husband that was slaine, answered and saide, I came vnto Gibeah that is in Beniamin with my concubine to lodge,
4 Então o levita , marido da mulher assassinada, explicou: — Cheguei com a minha
5 And the men of Gibeah arose against me, and beset the house round about vpon mee by night, thinking to haue slaine me, and haue forced my concubine that she is dead.
5 Os homens de Gibeá vieram de noite e cercaram a casa. Eles queriam me matar. Em vez disso abusaram da minha concubina, e ela morreu.
6 Then I tooke my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the countrey of the inheritance of Israel: for they haue committed abomination and villenie in Israel.
6 Então eu peguei o corpo dela, cortei em pedaços e mandei um pedaço para cada uma das doze tribos de Israel. Aquela gente cometeu um crime horrível no meio do nosso povo.
7 Behold, ye are al children of Israel: giue your aduise, and counsell herein.
7 Todos vocês que estão aqui são israelitas. Vamos resolver agora o que fazer.
8 Then all the people arose as one man, saying, There shall not a man of vs goe to his tent, neither any turne into his house.
8 Todo o povo de Israel se levantou ao mesmo tempo e disse: — Nenhum de nós, nem os que moram em casas, nem os que moram em barracas, voltará para casa.
9 But now this is that thing which we will do to Gibeah: we wil goe vp by lot against it,
9 Vamos escolher alguns homens para atacar Gibeá.
10 And we wil take ten men of the hundreth throughout al the tribes of Israel, and an hundreth of the thousand, and a thousand of ten thousand to bring vitaile for the people that they may do (when they come to Gibeah of Beniamin) according to all the villeny, that it hath done in Israel.
10 A décima parte dos homens de Israel vai arranjar comida para os que vão lutar. Os outros vão castigar os moradores de Gibeá pelo crime horrível que cometeram em Israel.
11 So all the men of Israel were gathered against the citie, knit together, as one man.
11 Então todo o povo de Israel se reuniu como se fosse uma só pessoa para atacar a cidade de Gibeá.
12 And the tribes of Israel sent men through al the tribe of Beniamin, saying, What wickednesse is this that is committed among you?
12 As tribos israelitas mandaram que mensageiros fossem por toda a tribo de Benjamim e dissessem: — Que crime horrível vocês cometeram!
13 Nowe therefore deliuer vs those wicked men which are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away euill from Israel: but the children of Beniamin would not obey the voyce of their brethren the children of Israel.
13 Exigimos que vocês nos entreguem agora esses homens imorais para que nós os matemos. Assim tiraremos esse mal do meio do povo de Israel. Mas o povo de Benjamim não deu atenção aos outros israelitas.
14 But ye children of Beniamin gathered them selues together out of the cities vnto Gibeah, to come out and fight against the children of Israel.
14 Eles saíram de todas as suas cidades e foram para Gibeá a fim de lutar contra o resto do povo de Israel.
15 And ye children of Beniamin were nombred at that time out of the cities sixe and twenty thousand men that drewe sworde, beside the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were nombred seuen hundreth chosen men.
15 Naquele dia eles convocaram das suas cidades vinte e seis mil soldados. Depois os moradores de Gibeá reuniram mais setecentos homens especialmente escolhidos,
16 Of all this people were seuen hundreth chosen men, being left handed: all these could sling stones at an heare breadth, and not faile.
16 que eram canhotos. Qualquer um deles podia atirar com funda uma pedra num fio de cabelo, sem nunca errar.
17 Also the men of Israel, beside Beniamin, were nombred foure hundreth thousande men that drew sword, euen all men of warre.
17 E os outros israelitas que iam lutar contra a tribo de Benjamim reuniram quatrocentos mil soldados treinados.
18 And the children of Israel arose, and went vp to the house of God, and asked of God, saying, Which of vs shall goe vp first to fight against the children of Beniamin? And the Lord said, Iudah shalbe first.
18 Os israelitas foram ao lugar de adoração, em Betel, e ali perguntaram a Deus: — Qual das nossas E o — A tribo de Judá.
19 Then the children of Israel arose vp earely and camped against Gibeah.
19 Na manhã seguinte os israelitas subiram e acamparam perto da cidade de Gibeá.
20 And the men of Israel went out to battell against Beniamin, and the men of Israel put themselues in aray to fight against the beside Gibeah.
20 Saíram para combater contra a tribo de Benjamim e puseram os soldados em posição de ataque, de frente para a cidade.
21 And the children of Beniamin came out of Gibeah, and slewe downe to the ground of the Israelites that day two and twentie thousand men.
21 Então o exército de Benjamim saiu da cidade. E, antes de terminar o dia, eles mataram vinte e dois mil soldados israelitas. Aí o povo de Israel foi para o lugar de adoração e, na presença do Senhor , chorou até a tarde. E eles perguntaram ao Senhor : — Devemos ir combater outra vez os nossos irmãos da tribo de Benjamim? E Deus respondeu: — Sim. Então o exército israelita se animou de novo. E eles puseram os seus soldados em posição de combate novamente, no mesmo lugar em que haviam lutado no dia anterior.
22 And the people, the men of Israel plucked vp their hearts, and set their battel againe in aray in the place where they put them in aray the first day.

23 (For the children of Israel had gone vp and wept before the Lord vnto the euening, and had asked of the Lord, saying, Shall I goe againe to battel against the children of Beniamin my brethren? and the Lord said, Go vp against them)
23 — ausente —
24 Then the children of Israel came neere against the children of Beniamin the second day.
24 Os israelitas marcharam contra a tribo de Benjamim pela segunda vez.
25 Also the second day Beniamin came forth to meete them out of Gibeah, and slewe downe to the grounde of the children of Israel againe eighteene thousand men: all they could handle the sword.
25 E pela segunda vez os soldados de Benjamim saíram de Gibeá. E dessa vez mataram dezoito mil soldados israelitas treinados.
26 Then al the children of Israel went vp and all the people came also vnto the house of God, and wept and sate there before the Lord and fasted that day vnto the euening, and offred burnt offrings and peace offrings before the Lord.
26 Então todo o povo de Israel subiu de novo até Betel para chorar. Ficaram ali na presença de Deus, o Senhor , e não comeram nada até a tarde. E apresentaram ao Senhor ofertas que foram completamente queimadas e sacrifícios de paz.
27 And the children of Israel asked the Lord (for there was the Arke of the couenat of God in those dayes,
27 Eles fizeram uma pergunta ao Senhor . (Acontece que naqueles dias a arca da aliança estava ali em Betel.
28 And Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar, the sonne of Aaron stoode before it at that time) saying, Shall I yet goe anie more to battel against the children of Beniamin my brethren, or shall I cease? And the Lord said, Go vp: for to morowe I will deliuer them into your hand.
28 E Fineias, filho de Eleazar e neto de Arão, estava encarregado de cuidar dela.) A pergunta que eles fizeram foi esta: — Devemos sair mais uma vez para combater os nossos irmãos da tribo de Benjamim ou devemos desistir? O — Combatam porque amanhã eu farei com que vocês os derrotem.
29 And Israel set men to lie in waite round about Gibeah.
29 Então os israelitas puseram alguns soldados escondidos em volta de Gibeá.
30 And the children of Israel went vp against the children of Beniamin the third day, and put theselues in aray against Gibeah, as at other times.
30 No terceiro dia marcharam de novo contra o exército da tribo de Benjamim. Os seus soldados ficaram em posição de batalha, de frente para Gibeá, como tinham feito antes.
31 Then the children of Beniamin comming out against the people, were drawen from the citie: and they began to smite of ye people and kill as at other times, euen by the wayes in the fielde (whereof one goeth vp to the house of God, and the other to Gibeah) vpon a thirtie men of Israel.
31 Os soldados de Benjamim saíram para combater e se afastaram da cidade. Como haviam feito antes, começaram a matar algumas pessoas na estrada de Betel, na estrada de Gibeá e em campo aberto. Mataram mais ou menos trinta israelitas.
32 (For the children of Beniamin sayd, They are fallen before vs, as at the first. But the children of Israel saide, Let vs flee and plucke them away from the citie vnto the hie wayes)
32 E diziam: — Nós já os derrotamos, como das outras vezes. Mas os israelitas disseram: — Vamos recuar e fazer com que eles se afastem da cidade e venham para as estradas.
33 And all the men of Israel rose vp out of their place, and put themselues in aray at Baal-tamar: and the men that lay in wayte of the Israelites came forth of their place, euen out of the medowes of Gibeah,
33 Então a maior parte do exército israelita saiu dali e tornou a se juntar em Baal-Tamar. Mas os homens que cercavam a cidade saíram de repente dos lugares onde estavam escondidos na planície de Gibeá.
34 And they came ouer against Gibeah, ten thousande chosen men of all Israel, and the battell was sore: for they knewe not that the euill was neere them.
34 Dez mil dos melhores soldados israelitas atacaram Gibeá, e o combate foi duro. Os benjamitas não imaginavam que iam ser destruídos.
35 And the Lord smote Beniamin before Israel, and the children of Israel destroyed of the Beniamites the same day fiue and twenty thousand and an hundreth men: all they could handle the sword.
35 O Senhor Deus fez com que os israelitas derrotassem o exército de Benjamim. E naquele dia os israelitas mataram vinte e cinco mil e cem inimigos.
36 So the children of Beniamin sawe that they were striken downe: for the men of Israel gaue place to the Beniamites, because they trusted to the men that lay in waite, which they had laide beside Gibeah.
36 Então os benjamitas compreenderam que estavam vencidos. Os israelitas tinham se retirado durante a luta contra os benjamitas porque confiavam nos homens que haviam colocado escondidos em volta de Gibeá.
37 And they that lay in wait hasted, and brake forth toward Gibeah, and the ambushment drewe themselues along, and smote all the citie with the edge of the sword.
37 Esses homens avançaram depressa na direção de Gibeá, espalharam-se e mataram todas as pessoas da cidade.
38 Also the men of Israel had appoynted a certaine time with the ambushmentes, that they should make a great flame and smoke rise vp out of the citie.
38 O exército israelita e os homens que estavam escondidos tinham combinado um sinal: quando vissem uma grande nuvem de fumaça subindo da cidade,
39 And when the men of Israel retired in the battel, Beniamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirtie persons: for they said, Surely they are striken downe before vs, as in the first battell.
39 os israelitas que estavam fora, no campo de batalha, deviam dar meia-volta e atacar. Até aquele momento os benjamitas já haviam matado uns trinta israelitas e diziam: — Sim. Já os derrotamos, como das outras vezes.
40 But when the flame bega to arise out of the citie, as a pillar of smoke, the Beniamites looked backe, and behold, the flame of the citie began to ascend vp to heauen.
40 Então o sinal apareceu: uma nuvem de fumaça começou a subir da cidade. Os benjamitas olharam para trás e ficaram muito espantados quando viram a cidade inteira pegando fogo.
41 Then the men of Israel turned againe, and the men of Beniamin were astonied: for they saw that euill was neere vnto them.
41 Então os homens de Israel deram meia-volta, e os benjamitas ficaram apavorados porque viram que iam ser destruídos.
42 Therefore they fled before the men of Israel vnto the way of the wildernesse, but the battell ouertooke them: also they which came out of the cities, slew them among them.
42 Eles fugiram e correram na direção do deserto, mas não puderam escapar. Foram cercados pela maior parte do exército israelita e também pelos soldados que vinham da cidade e foram destruídos.
43 Thus they compassed the Beniamites about, and chased them at ease, and ouerranne them, euen ouer against Gibeah on the Eastside.
43 Os israelitas cercaram os inimigos, e os perseguiram sem parar até um lugar a leste de Gibeá, e os iam matando pelo caminho.
44 And there were slaine of Beniamin eyghteene thousad men, which were all men of warre.
44 Dezoito mil dos melhores soldados benjamitas foram mortos.
45 And they turned and fled to the wildernes vnto the rocke of Rimmon: and the Israelites glayned of them by the way fiue thousand men, and pursued after them vnto Gidom, and slewe two thousand men of them,
45 Os outros fugiram na direção do deserto, para a rocha de Rimom. Cinco mil foram mortos nas estradas. Os israelitas perseguiram o resto e assim mataram mais dois mil homens.
46 So that all that were slayne that day of Beniamin, were fiue and twentie thousand men that drewe sword, which were all men of warre:
46 Ao todo vinte e cinco mil benjamitas foram mortos naquele dia, todos eles soldados valentes.
47 But sixe hundreth men turned and fled to the wildernesse vnto the rocke of Rimmon, and abode in the rocke of Rimmon foure moneths.
47 Porém seiscentos homens fugiram para o deserto, para a rocha de Rimom, e ficaram lá quatro meses.
48 Then the men of Israel returned vnto the children of Beniamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword from the men of the citie vnto the beasts, and all that came to hand: also they set on fire all the cities that they coulde come by.
48 Os israelitas atacaram o resto dos benjamitas e os mataram, tanto homens como animais, e destruíram tudo o que encontraram. E queimaram todas as cidades da região.
