1 And the me of Ephraim gathered themselues together, and went Northwarde, and saide vnto Iphtah, Wherefore wentest thou to fight against the children of Ammon, and diddest not call vs to goe with thee? we will therefore burne thine house vpon thee with fire.
1 Os homens da tribo de Efraim se reuniram para lutar. Eles atravessaram o rio Jordão para o lado de Zafom e disseram a Jefté: — Por que é que você saiu para combater os amonitas e não nos chamou para irmos também? Por causa disso nós vamos queimar a sua casa com você dentro!
2 And Iphtah said vnto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon, and when I called you, ye deliuered me not out of their handes.
2 Mas Jefté respondeu: — Eu e o meu povo tínhamos uma briga séria com os amonitas. Chamei vocês, mas vocês não me livraram deles.
3 So when I sawe that ye deliuered me not, I put my life in mine hands, and went vpon the children of Ammon: so the Lord deliuered them into mine handes. Wherefore then are ye come vpon me nowe to fight against me?
3 Quando vi que vocês não iam me ajudar, arrisquei a vida e fui combater contra eles. E o Senhor Deus me deu a vitória. Então por que é que vocês vêm agora lutar contra mim?
4 Then Iphtah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are runnagates of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.
4 Aí Jefté juntou todos os homens de Gileade. Eles guerrearam contra os homens de Efraim e os derrotaram. Fizeram isso porque os efraimitas tinham dito: “Vocês, gileaditas que moram nas terras de Efraim e de Manassés, são desertores de Efraim.”
5 Also the Gileadites tooke the passages of Iorden before the Ephraimites, and when the Ephraimites that were escaped, saide, Let me passe, then the men of Gilead said vnto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay,
5 Para não deixar que os efraimitas passassem, os gileaditas tomaram os lugares onde o rio Jordão podia ser atravessado. Quando algum efraimita que estava tentando escapar pedia para atravessar o rio, os homens de Gileade perguntavam: — Você é efraimita? Se ele respondia que não,
6 Then said they vnto him, Say nowe Shibboleth: and he said, Sibboleth: for he could not so pronounce: then they tooke him, and slewe him at the passages of Iorden: and there fel at that time of the Ephraimites two and fourtie thousand.
6 eles o mandavam dizer a palavra “Chibolete”. Mas, se ele dizia “Sibolete” porque não podia falar direito a palavra, então o agarravam e matavam ali mesmo, na beira do rio Jordão. Naquela ocasião foram mortos quarenta e dois mil efraimitas.
7 And Iphtah iudged Israel sixe yeere: then dyed Iphtah the Gileadite, and was buryed in one of the cities of Gilead.
7 Jefté, o gileadita, governou Israel durante seis anos. Então morreu e foi sepultado na sua cidade natal, em Gileade.
8 After him Ibzan of Beth-lehem iudged Israel,
8 Depois de Jefté, Ibsã, da cidade de Belém, governou o povo de Israel.
9 Who had thirtie sonnes and thirtie daughters, which he sent out, and tooke in thirtie daughters from abroade for his sonnes. and he iudged Israel seuen yeere.
9 Ele tinha trinta filhos e trinta filhas. Deixou que as trinta filhas casassem com rapazes de fora do seu grupo de famílias e trouxe trinta moças de fora para casarem com os seus filhos. Ibsã governou Israel sete anos.
10 Then Ibzan died, and was buryed at Bethlehem.
10 Então morreu e foi sepultado em Belém.
11 And after him iudged Israel Elon, a Zebulonite, and he iudged Israel tenne yeere.
11 Depois de Ibsã, Elom, que era da tribo de Zebulom, governou Israel dez anos.
12 Then Elon the Zebulonite dyed, and was buryed in Aijalon in the countrey of Zebulun.
12 Então morreu e foi sepultado em Aijalom, na terra de Zebulom.
13 And after him Abdon the sonne of Hillel the Pirathonite iudged Israel.
13 Depois de Elom, Abdom governou o povo de Israel. Ele era filho de Hilel, da cidade de Piratom.
14 And he had fourty sonnes and thirtie nephewes that rode on seuentie assecoltes: and he iudged Israel eight yeeres.
14 Abdom tinha quarenta filhos e trinta netos, que montavam setenta jumentos. Ele governou Israel oito anos.
15 Then dyed Abdon the sonne of Hillel the Pirathonite, and was buryed in Pirathon, in ye lande of Ephraim, in the Mount of the Amalekites.
15 Então morreu e foi sepultado em Piratom, que fica na terra de Efraim, na região montanhosa dos amalequitas.
