1 Then Gilead begate Iphtah, and Iphtah the Gileadite was a valiant man, but the sonne of an harlot.
1 Jefté, o gileadita, era homem valente, porém filho de uma prostituta. O pai dele se chamava Gileade.
2 And Gileads wife bare him sonnes, and when the womans children were come to age, they thrust out Iphtah, and sayd vnto him, Thou shalt not inherite in our fathers house: for thou art the sonne of a strange woman.
2 Gileade também teve filhos da sua esposa. Esses filhos cresceram e expulsaram Jefté, dizendo: — Você não herdará nada na casa de nosso pai, porque é filho de outra mulher.
3 Then Iphtah fledde from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there gathered idle fellowes to Iphtah, and went out with him.
3 Então Jefté fugiu da presença de seus irmãos e foi morar na terra de Tobe. Ali alguns homens sem valor se juntaram a ele e o seguiam.
4 And in processe of time the children of Ammon made warre with Israel.

5 And when the children of Ammon fought with Israel, the Elders of Gilead went to fet Iphtah out of the land of Tob.
5 Quando os filhos de Amom atacaram, os anciãos de Gileade foram buscar Jefté na terra de Tobe.
6 And they saide vnto Iphtah, Come and be our captaine, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.
6 E disseram a Jefté: — Venha ser o nosso chefe, para podermos lutar contra os filhos de Amom.
7 Iphtah then answered the Elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expell me out of my fathers house? how then come you vnto me now in time of your tribulation?
7 Porém Jefté disse aos anciãos de Gileade: — Vocês não são aqueles que me odiaram e me expulsaram da casa de meu pai? Por que vêm a mim agora, quando estão em aperto?
8 Then the Elders of Gilead saide vnto Iphtah, Therefore we turne againe to thee now, that thou mayest goe with vs, and fight against the children of Ammon, and bee our head ouer all the inhabitants of Gilead.
8 Os anciãos de Gileade responderam a Jefté: — É por isso que agora estamos voltando a você. Venha conosco e lute contra os filhos de Amom. Seja o nosso chefe sobre todos os moradores de Gileade.
9 And Iphtah said vnto the Elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home againe to fight against the children of Ammon, if the Lord giue them before me, shall I be your head?
9 Então Jefté perguntou aos anciãos de Gileade: — Se vocês me fizerem voltar para combater os filhos de Amom, e o
10 And the Elders of Gilead saide to Iphtah, The Lord be witnesse betweene vs, if we doe not according to thy wordes.
10 Os anciãos de Gileade responderam: — O
11 Then Iphtah went with the Elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captaine ouer them: and Iphtah rehearsed all his wordes before the Lord in Mizpeh.
11 Então Jefté foi com os anciãos de Gileade, e o povo o pôs por cabeça e chefe sobre si. E Jefté proferiu todas as suas palavras diante do Senhor , em Mispa.
12 Then Iphtah sent messengers vnto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to doe with me, that thou art come against me, to fight in my lande?
12 Jefté enviou mensageiros ao rei dos filhos de Amom, dizendo: — O que você tem contra mim, para vir e atacar a minha terra?
13 And the King of the children of Ammon answered vnto the messengers of Iphtah, Because Israel tooke my lande, when they came vp from Egypt, from Arnon vnto Iabbok, and vnto Iorden: now therefore restore those lands quietly.
13 O rei dos filhos de Amom respondeu aos mensageiros de Jefté: — É porque, quando Israel saiu do Egito, tomou a minha terra desde o Arnom até o Jaboque e até o Jordão. Devolva-me agora essa terra, pacificamente.
14 Yet Iphtah sent messengers againe vnto the King of the children of Ammon,
14 Porém Jefté tornou a enviar mensageiros ao rei dos filhos de Amom,
15 And said vnto him, Thus saith Iphtah, Israel tooke not the lande of Moab, nor the lande of the children of Ammon.
15 dizendo: — Assim diz Jefté: “Israel não tomou nem a terra dos moabitas nem a terra dos filhos de Amom.
16 But when Israel came vp from Egypt, and walked through the wildernesse vnto the redde Sea, then they came to Kadesh.
16 Porque, quando Israel saiu do Egito, andou pelo deserto até o mar Vermelho e chegou a Cades.
17 And Israel sent messengers vnto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, goe thorowe thy lande: but the King of Edom woulde not consent: and also they sent vnto the King of Moab, but he would not: therefore Israel abode in Kadesh.
17 Então Israel enviou mensageiros ao rei dos edomitas, dizendo: ‘Peço que você me deixe passar pela sua terra.’ Porém o rei dos edomitas não lhe deu ouvidos. Israel mandou pedir a mesma coisa ao rei dos moabitas, mas ele também não quis atender. E, assim, Israel ficou em Cades.
18 Then they went through the wildernesse, and compassed the lande of Edom, and the lande of Moab, and came by the Eastside of the lande of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, and came not within the coast of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.
18 Depois, andou pelo deserto, e rodeou a terra dos edomitas e a terra dos moabitas, e chegou a leste da terra destes, e acampou do outro lado do Arnom. Não entrou no território dos moabitas, porque o Arnom é a fronteira deles.
19 Also Israel sent messengers vnto Sihon, King of the Amorites, the King of Heshbon, and Israel said vnto him, Let vs passe, we pray thee, by thy lande vnto our place.
19 Então Israel enviou mensageiros a Seom, rei dos amorreus, rei de Hesbom. Israel lhe disse: ‘Por favor, deixe-nos passar pela sua terra até o nosso destino.’
20 But Sihon consented not to Israel, that he shoulde goe through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Iahaz, and fought with Israel.
20 Porém Seom, não confiando em Israel, recusou deixá-lo passar pelo seu território; pelo contrário, reuniu todo o seu povo, acampou em Jaza, e lutou contra Israel.
21 And the Lord God of Israel gaue Sihon and all his folke into the handes of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the lande of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that countrey:
21 O Senhor , Deus de Israel, entregou Seom e todo o seu povo nas mãos de Israel, que os derrotou. E Israel tomou posse das terras dos amorreus, que moravam naquele lugar.
22 And they possessed all the coast of the Amorites, from Arnon vnto Iabbok, and from the wildernesse euen vnto Iorden.
22 Os israelitas tomaram posse de todo o território dos amorreus, desde o Arnom até o Jaboque e desde o deserto até o Jordão.
23 Nowe therefore the Lord God of Israel hath cast out the Amorites before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possesse it?
23 Assim, o Senhor , Deus de Israel, expulsou os amorreus de diante do seu povo de Israel. E você pretende ser dono desta terra?
24 Wouldest not thou possesse that which Chemosh thy god giueth thee to possesse? So whomesoeuer the Lord our God driueth out before vs, them will we possesse.
24 Não é fato que você considera como sua propriedade aquilo que Quemos, seu deus, lhe dá? Assim nós possuiremos o território de todos os que o Senhor , nosso Deus, expulsou de diante de nós.
25 And art thou nowe farre better then Balak the sonne of Zippor King of Moab? did he not striue with Israel and fight against them,
25 Você pensa que é melhor do que Balaque, filho de Zipor, rei dos moabitas? Será que alguma vez ele entrou em conflito com Israel ou lutou contra ele?
26 When Israel dwelt in Heshbon and in her townes, and in Aroer and in her townes, and in all the cities that are by the coastes of Arnon, three hundreth yeeres? why did ye not then recouer them in that space?
26 Enquanto Israel morou durante trezentos anos em Hesbom e nas suas vilas, e em Aroer e nas suas vilas, e em todas as cidades que ficam às margens do Arnom, por que vocês, amonitas, não as recuperaram durante esse tempo?
27 Wherefore, I haue not offended thee: but thou doest me wrong to warre against me. The Lord the Iudge be iudge this day betweene the children of Israel, and the children of Ammon.
27 Portanto, não sou eu quem pecou contra você! Porém você faz mal em lutar contra mim. O Senhor , que é juiz, julgue hoje entre os filhos de Israel e os filhos de Amom.”
28 Howbeit the King of the children of Ammon hearkened not vnto the wordes of Iphtah, which he had sent him.
28 Porém o rei dos filhos de Amom não deu ouvidos à mensagem que Jefté lhe havia mandado.
29 Then the Spirite of the Lord came vpon Iphtah, and he passed ouer to Gilead and to Manasseh, and came to Mizpeh in Gilead, and from Mizpeh in Gilead he went vnto the children of Ammon.
29 Então o Espírito do Senhor veio sobre Jefté. Ele atravessou Gileade e Manassés e, passando por Mispa de Gileade, foi até os filhos de Amom.
30 And Iphtah vowed a vowe vnto the Lord, and said, If thou shalt deliuer the children of Ammon into mine handes,
30 Jefté fez um voto ao Senhor , dizendo: — Se, de fato, entregares os filhos de Amom nas minhas mãos,
31 Then that thing that commeth out of the doores of mine house to meete me, when I come home in peace from the children of Ammon, shall be the Lordes, and I will offer it for a burnt offering.
31 quem primeiro sair da porta da minha casa para se encontrar comigo, quando eu voltar vitorioso sobre os filhos de Amom, esse será do Senhor , e eu o oferecerei em holocausto.
32 And so Iphtah went vnto the children of Ammon to fight against them, and the Lord deliuered them into his handes.
32 Assim, Jefté foi de encontro aos filhos de Amom, para lutar contra eles, e o Senhor os entregou nas mãos de Jefté.
33 And he smote them from Aroer euen till thou come to Minnith, twentie cities, and so foorth to Abel of the vineyardes, with an exceeding great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were humbled before the children of Israel.
33 Ele os derrotou desde Aroer até as proximidades de Minite — vinte cidades ao todo — e até Abel-Queramim. Foi uma grande derrota para os filhos de Amom, que, assim, foram subjugados pelos filhos de Israel.
34 Nowe when Iphtah came to Mizpeh vnto his house, beholde, his daughter came out to meete him with timbrels and daunces, which was his onely childe: he had none other sonne, nor daughter.
34 Quando Jefté voltou para a sua casa, em Mispa, a filha saiu ao seu encontro, tocando o tamborim e dançando. E ela era filha única; ele não tinha outro filho nem filha.
35 And when hee sawe her, hee rent his clothes, and saide, Alas my daughter, thou hast brought me lowe, and art of them that trouble me: for I haue opened my mouth vnto the Lord, and can not goe backe.
35 Quando Jefté a viu, rasgou as suas roupas e disse: — Ah! Minha filha! Você me prostra por completo! Você passou a ser a causa da minha ruína, porque fiz um voto ao
36 And she said vnto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth vnto the Lord, doe with me as thou hast promised, seeing that the Lord hath auenged thee of thine enemies the children of Ammon.
36 E ela lhe disse: — Meu pai, você fez um voto ao
37 Also she saide vnto her father, Doe thus much for me: suffer me two moneths, that I may goe to the mountaines, and bewaile my virginitie, I and my fellowes.
37 E ela disse mais ao seu pai: — Que me seja concedido isto: deixa-me por dois meses, para que eu vá, e desça pelos montes, e chore a minha virgindade, eu e as minhas companheiras.
38 And he sayde, Goe: and he sent her away two moneths: so she went with her companions, and lamented her virginitie vpon the moutaines.
38 E o pai consentiu, dizendo: — Vá. Deixou-a ir por dois meses. Então ela se foi com as suas companheiras e chorou a sua virgindade pelos montes.
39 And after the ende of two moneths, she turned againe vnto her father, who did with her according to his vowe which he had vowed, and she had knowen no man. and it was a custome in Israel:
39 Ao fim dos dois meses, ela voltou para seu pai, que lhe fez segundo o voto que tinha feito. Assim, ela nunca teve relações com homem algum. Daqui veio o costume em Israel
40 The daughters of Israel went yere by yere to lament the daughter of Iphtah the Gileadite, foure dayes in a yeere.
40 de as filhas de Israel saírem por quatro dias, todos os anos, a chorar pela filha de Jefté, o gileadita.
