1 Nowe when all the Kings of the Amorites, which were beyond Iorden Westward, and all the Kinges of the Canaanites which were by the Sea, heard that the Lord had dried vp the waters of Iorden before the children of Israel vntill they were gone ouer, their heart fainted: and there was no courage in them any more because of the children of Israel.
1 Quando todos os reis dos amorreus que habitavam deste lado do Jordão, a oeste, e todos os reis dos cananeus que estavam junto ao mar ouviram que o Senhor tinha secado as águas do Jordão diante dos filhos de Israel, até que tivéssemos passado, o coração deles se derreteu de medo e ficaram desanimados, por causa dos filhos de Israel.
2 That same time the Lord said vnto Ioshua, Make thee sharpe kniues, and returne, and circumcise the sonnes of Israel the second time.
2 Naquele tempo o Senhor disse a Josué: — Faça facas de pedra e passe de novo a circuncidar os filhos de Israel.
3 Then Ioshua made him sharpe kniues and circumcised the sonnes of Israel in the hill of the foreskinnes.
3 Então Josué fez facas de pedra e circuncidou os filhos de Israel em Gibeate-Haralote.
4 And this is the cause why Ioshua circumcised all the people, euen the males that came out of Egypt, because all the men of warre were dead in the wildernesse by the way after they came out of Egypt.
4 Foi esta a razão por que Josué os circuncidou: todo o povo que tinha saído do Egito, os homens, todos os homens de guerra, tinham morrido pelo caminho, no deserto.
5 For all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were borne in the wildernes by the way after they came out of Egypt, were not circumcised.
5 Porque todo o povo que saiu do Egito estava circuncidado, mas a nenhum deles que havia nascido no deserto, pelo caminho, depois de terem saído do Egito, haviam circuncidado.
6 For the children of Israel walked fourtie yeres in the wildernes, till all the people of the men of warre that came out of Egypt were consumed, because they obeyed not the voyce of the Lord: vnto whome the Lord sware, that he would not shewe them the lande, which the Lord had sworne vnto their fathers, that he would giue vs, euen a land that floweth with milke and hony.
6 Porque os filhos de Israel andaram quarenta anos pelo deserto, até desaparecer toda a nação, a saber, os homens de guerra que saíram do Egito, que não obedeceram à voz do Senhor , aos quais o Senhor tinha jurado que não lhes deixaria ver a terra que o Senhor , sob juramento, prometeu dar a seus pais, terra que mana leite e mel.
7 So their sonnes whome he raysed vp in their steade, Ioshua circumcised: for they were vncircumcised, because they circumcised them not by the way.
7 Porém em seu lugar pôs os filhos deles, e a estes Josué circuncidou. Estavam incircuncisos, porque não os circuncidaram no caminho.
8 And when they had made an ende of circumcising al the people, they abode in the places in the campe till they were whole.
8 Depois que toda a nação foi circuncidada, ficaram no seu lugar no arraial, até que sararam.
9 After, the Lord said vnto Ioshua, This day I haue taken away the shame of Egypt from you: wherefore he called the name of that place Gilgal, vnto this day.
9 Então o Senhor disse a Josué: — Hoje removi de vocês a vergonha do Egito. Por isso aquele lugar foi chamado de Gilgal até o dia de hoje.
10 So the children of Israel abode in Gilgal, and kept ye feast of the Passeouer the fourteenth day of the moneth at euen in ye plaine of Iericho.
10 Enquanto os filhos de Israel estavam acampados em Gilgal, celebraram a Páscoa no dia catorze do mês, à tarde, nas campinas de Jericó.
11 And they did eat of the corne of the land, on the morow after the Passeouer, vnleauened breade, and parched corne in the same day.
11 No dia seguinte à Páscoa, comeram do fruto da terra; nesse mesmo dia comeram pães sem fermento e cereais tostados.
12 And the MAN ceased on the morowe after they had eaten of the corne of the land, neither had the children of Israel MAN any more, but did eate of the fruite of the land of Canaan that yeere.
12 Um dia depois de terem comido do produto da terra, o maná cessou, e os filhos de Israel não mais o tiveram; mas, naquele ano, comeram do que foi colhido na terra de Canaã.
13 And when Ioshua was by Iericho, he lift vp his eyes and looked: and behold, there stood a man against him, hauing a sword drawen in his hand: and Ioshua went vnto him, and said vnto him, Art thou on our side, or on our aduersaries?
13 Quando Josué estava perto de Jericó, levantou os olhos e olhou; e eis que se achava em pé diante dele um homem que trazia na mão uma espada. Josué se aproximou dele e perguntou: — Você é dos nossos ou dos nossos adversários?
14 And he said, Nay, but as a captaine of the host of the Lord am I nowe come: then Ioshua fel on his face to the earth, and did worship, and saide vnto him, What sayth my Lord vnto his seruant?
14 Ele respondeu: — Não sou nem uma coisa nem outra. Sou príncipe do exército do Então Josué se prostrou com o rosto em terra e o adorou. E lhe disse: — Que diz meu senhor ao seu servo?
15 And the captaine of ye Lords host said vnto Ioshua, Loose thy shoe of thy foote: for ye place wheron thou standest, is holy: and Ioshua did so.
15 O príncipe do exército do Senhor respondeu a Josué: — Tire as sandálias dos pés, porque o lugar em que você está é santo. E Josué fez assim.
