1 Heare ye the worde of the Lord that he speaketh vnto you, O house of Israel.
1 Escutai, casa de Israel, a palavra que o Senhor vos dirige! Oráculo do Senhor:
2 Thus saith the Lord, Learne not the way of the heathen, and be not afraid for the signes of heauen, though the heathen be afraid of such.
2 Não imiteis o procedimento dos pagãos; nem temais os sinais celestes, como os temem os pagãos,
3 For the customes of the people are vaine: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest (which is the worke of the handes of the carpenter) with the axe,
3 porquanto os deuses desses povos são apenas vaidade. São cepos abatidos na floresta, obra trabalhada pelo cinzel do artesão,
4 And another decketh it with siluer, and with golde: they fasten it with nailes, and hammers, that it fall not.
4 decorada com prata e ouro. A golpes de martelo são-lhes fixados os pregos {e postos em seus lugares} para que não se movam.
5 The idoles stande vp as the palme tree, but speake not: they are borne because they cannot go feare them not, for they cannot do euill, neither can they do good.
5 Assemelham-se esses deuses a uma estaca em campo de pepinos, que devem ser levados, pois não caminham. Não os temais, pois que vos não podem fazer mal, nem têm o poder de fazer o bem.
6 There is none like vnto thee, O Lord: thou art great, and thy name is great in power.
6 Nenhum se assemelha a vós, Senhor, que sois grande. E por causa de vosso poder, grande é também vosso nome.
7 Who would not feare thee, O King of nations? for to thee appertaineth the dominion: for among all the wise men of the Gentiles, and in al their kingdomes there is none like thee.
7 Quem não vos há de temer, rei dos povos? A vós é devido todo respeito, porquanto entre os sábios dos povos pagãos, e nos seus reinos, nenhum se assemelha a vós.
8 But, altogether they dote, and are foolish: for the stocke is a doctrine of vanitie.
8 São todos eles néscios e insensatos, e seus ensinamentos são vaidade, pura lenha.
9 Siluer plates are brought from Tarshish, and golde from Vphaz, for the worke of the workeman, and the handes of the founder: the blewe silke, and the purple is their clothing: all these things are made by cunning men.
9 É prata batida, importada de Társis, ouro de Ofir, trabalho de escultor e de ourives, revestido de púrpura arroxeada e vermelha: não passam de obra de artista.
10 But the Lord is the God of trueth: he is the liuing God, and an euerlasting King: at his anger the earth shall tremble, and the nations cannot abide his wrath.
10 O Senhor, ao contrário, é verdadeiramente Deus, Deus vivo, eterno rei. Treme a terra ante a sua cólera, e os povos pagãos não podem suportar sua ira.
11 (Thus shall you say vnto them, The gods that haue not made the heauens and the earth, shall perish from the earth, and from vnder these heauens)
11 {Dir-lhes-eis, portanto: os deuses que não fizeram o céu e a terra desaparecerão da terra e de sob os céus.}
12 He hath made the earth by his power, and established the worlde by his wisedome, and hath stretched out the heauen by his discretion.
12 Só ele criou a terra pelo seu poder e consolidou o mundo pela sua sabedoria, desdobrando os céus pela sua inteligência.
13 Hee giueth by his voyce the multitude of waters in the heauen, and he causeth the cloudes to ascend from the endes of the earth: he turneth lightnings to rayne, and bringeth forth the winde out of his treasures.
13 Ao som de sua voz, reúnem-se as águas nos céus; dos confins da terra manda subir as nuvens, e transforma os relâmpagos em chuvas, fazendo desencadearem-se os ventos de seus redutos.
14 Euery man is a beast by his owne knowledge: euery founder is confounded by the grauen image: for his melting is but falsehood, and there is no breath therein.
14 Então, os homens se tornam estupefatos e aturdidos, e se envergonha o artista da estátua que concebeu, porque são apenas mentira os ídolos que fundiu, e neles não respira vida.
15 They are vanitie, and the worke of errours: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
15 São apenas vãos simulacros que se desvanecerão no dia do castigo.
16 The portion of Iaakob is not like them: for he is the maker of all things, and Israel is the rodde of his inheritance: the Lord of hostes is his Name.
16 Não se dá o mesmo com aquele que é a herança de Jacó, pois foi ele que tudo criou, e Israel é a sua tribo. E seu nome é JAVÉ dos exércitos.
17 Gather vp thy wares out of the land, O thou that dwellest in the strong place.
17 Apanha da terra o teu fardo, tu que estás sitiada!
18 For thus sayth the Lord, Beholde, at this time I will throwe as with a sling the inhabitants of the lande, and will trouble them, and they shall finde it so.
18 Pois assim falou o Senhor: lançarei ao longe, de uma vez, os habitantes desta terra, e os acompanharei de perto para que me encontrem.
19 Wo is me for my destruction, and my grieuous plague: but I thought, Yet it is my sorow, and I will beare it.
19 Ai de mim, por causa de minha ferida! É bem dolorosa a minha chaga! Eu havia dito: fosse apenas esse o meu mal, eu o suportaria!
20 My tabernacle is destroyed, and all my coardes are broken: my children are gone from me, and are not: there is none to spread out my tent any more, and to set vp my curtaines.
20 Foi devastada a minha tenda, e suas cordas todas se romperam. Abandonaram-me meus filhos, e não mais existem; ninguém mais tenho para levantá-la, e de novo erguer meu pavilhão.
21 For the Pastours are become beasts, and haue not sought the Lord: therefore haue they none vnderstanding: and all the flockes of their pastures are scattered.
21 Na verdade, são néscios os pastores; não procuram mais o Senhor. Por isso não logram êxito e dispersaram-se os seus rebanhos.
22 Beholde, the noyse of the brute is come, and a great commotion out of the North countrey to make the cities of Iudah desolate, and a denne of dragons.
22 Eis que se propaga um grande rumor, e o eco de um imenso tumulto vem do norte para transformar as cidades de Judá num deserto, num covil de chacais.
23 O Lord, I knowe, that the way of man is not in himselfe, neyther is it in man to walke and to direct his steps.
23 Bem sei, Senhor, que não é o homem dono de seu destino, e que ao caminhante não lhe assiste o poder de dirigir seus passos.
24 O Lord, correct mee, but with iudgement, not in thine anger, least thou bring mee to nothing.
24 Castigai-nos, Senhor, mas com eqüidade, e não com furor, para que não sejamos reduzidos ao nada.
25 Powre out thy wrath vpon the heathen, that knowe thee not, and vpon the families that call not on thy Name: for they haue eaten vp Iaakob and deuoured him and consumed him, and haue made his habitation desolate.
25 Derramai esse furor sobre as nações que vos desconhecem, sobre os povos que não invocam o vosso nome, pois que eles devoraram Jacó, e o consumiram, transformando-lhe as casas em deserto.
