1 The burden of Damascus. Beholde, Damascus is taken away from being a citie, for it shall be a ruinous heape.
1 Esta é a mensagem contra a Síria: “Damasco não será mais uma cidade; ela vai virar um montão de ruínas.
2 The cities of Aroer shall be forsaken: they shall be for the flockes: for they shall lye there, and none shall make them afraide.
2 As cidades da Síria ficarão abandonadas para sempre; os rebanhos irão até lá para descansar, e ninguém os espantará dali.
3 The munition also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdome from Damascus, and the remnant of Aram shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, sayeth the Lord of hostes.
3 As fortalezas de Israel serão destruídas, e a Síria deixará de ser um reino. Os sírios que não forem mortos serão como o povo de Israel: eles viverão na miséria. Sou eu, o
4 And in that day the glorie of Iaakob shall be impouerished, and the fatnes of his flesh shalbe made leane.
4 “Está chegando o dia em que Israel perderá todo o seu poder, e todas as suas riquezas acabarão.
5 And it shalbe as when the haruest man gathereth the corne, and reapeth the eares with his arme, and he shall be as he that gathereth the eares in the valley of Rephaim.
5 Naquele dia, o país ficará parecido com um campo depois que todo o trigo foi colhido ou como o vale dos Gigantes depois de colhidas todas as espigas.
6 Yet a gathering of grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an oliue tree, two or three beries are in the top of the vpmost boughes, and foure or fiue in the hie branches of the fruite thereof, sayeth the Lord God of Israel.
6 Mas umas poucas pessoas ficarão vivas, e Israel será como uma oliveira depois da colheita. Depois que a oliveira é sacudida, ainda fica com duas ou três azeitonas nos galhos mais altos ou umas quatro ou cinco nos galhos de baixo. Eu, o
7 At that day shall a man looke to his maker, and his eyes shall looke to the holy one of Israel.
7 Naquele dia, as pessoas olharão para o seu Criador a fim de pedir ajuda; todos se voltarão para o Santo Deus de Israel.
8 And hee shall not looke to the altars, the workes of his owne hands, neither shall he looke to those thinges, which his owne fingers haue made, as groues and images.
8 Não confiarão mais nos altares que eles construíram, nem nas imagens que eles mesmos fizeram, nem nos postes da deusa Aserá , nem nos altares de queimar incenso.
9 In that day shall the cities of their strength be as the forsaking of boughes and branches, which they did forsake, because of the children of Israel, and there shall be desolation.
9 Naquele dia, as cidades protegidas por muralhas ficarão desertas como as cidades que os heveus e os amorreus abandonaram quando os israelitas invadiram a sua terra; tudo será arrasado.
10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy saluation, and hast not remembred the God of thy strength, therefore shalt thou set pleasant plantes, and shalt graffe strange vine branches:
10 Povo de Israel, vocês esqueceram o seu Deus, que os salvou, e não lembram mais do seu forte protetor. Vocês plantam jardins sagrados em honra dos deuses pagãos.
11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to growe, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seede to florish: but the haruest shall be gone in the day of possession, and there shalbe desperate sorrowe.
11 Mas ainda que as plantas desses jardins brotem e floresçam no mesmo dia em que forem plantadas, ainda assim não haverá colheitas nos campos quando chegar o dia de sofrimento e de dor sem cura.
12 Ah, the multitude of many people, they shall make a sounde like the noyse of the sea: for the noyse of the people shall make a sounde like the noyse of mightie waters.
12 Escutem o barulho de muitas nações que se agitam e se revoltam; parece o rugido do mar, parece o estrondo de ondas violentas.
13 The people shall make a sounde like the noise of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee farre off, and shalbe chased as the chaffe of the mountaines before the winde, and as a rolling thing before the whirlewinde.
13 Os povos rugem como o mar, mas Deus os repreenderá, e eles fugirão. Serão como a palha que o vento leva pelos montes ou como o pó que a ventania espalha.
14 And loe, in the euening there is trouble: but afore the morning it is gone. This is the portion of them that spoyle vs, and the lot of them that robbe vs.
14 Ao pôr do sol, metem medo, mas de manhã já não existem mais. É isso o que vai acontecer com os nossos inimigos, que arrasam a nossa terra e levam embora todos os nossos bens.
