1 Be not rash with thy mouth, nor let thine heart be hastie to vtter a thing before God: for God is in the heauens, and thou art on the earth: therefore let thy wordes be fewe.
1 Guarda o teu pé, quando entrares na casa de Deus; e esteja mais pronto a ouvir do que a oferecer o sacrifício de tolos, porque eles não sabem que fazem mal.
2 For as a dreame commeth by the multitude of businesse: so the voyce of a foole is in the multitude of wordes.
2 Não te precipites com a tua boca, nem o teu coração se apresse a pronunciar qualquer coisa diante de Deus; porque Deus está no céu, e tu estás sobre a terra; portanto, que sejam poucas as tuas palavras.
3 When thou hast vowed a vowe to God, deferre not to pay it: for he deliteth not in fooles: pay therefore that thou hast vowed.
3 Porque o sonho vem através da multidão de negócios, e a voz do tolo é conhecida pela multidão de palavras.
4 It is better that thou shouldest not vowe, then that thou shouldest vow and not pay it.
4 Quando fizeres algum voto a Deus, não tardes em pagá-lo; porque ele não se agrada de tolos; o que votares, paga-o.
5 Suffer not thy mouth to make thy flesh to sinne: neither say before the Angel, that this is ignorance: wherefore shall God bee angry by thy voyce, and destroy the worke of thine hands?
5 Melhor é que tu não prometas, do que prometeres e não pagar.
6 For in the multitude of dreames, and vanities are also many wordes: but feare thou God.
6 Não sofra a tua boca fazendo pecar a tua carne, nem digas diante do anjo que foi erro; por que se iraria Deus contra a tua voz, e destruiria a obra das tuas mãos?
7 If in a countrey thou seest the oppression of the poore, and the defrauding of iudgement and iustice, be not astonied at the matter: for hee that is higher then the highest, regardeth, and there be higher then they.
7 Porque na multidão dos sonhos e nas muitas palavras, há também diversas vaidades; porém, teme tu a teu Deus.
8 And the abundance of the earth is ouer all: the King also consisteth by the fielde that is tilled.
8 Se vires em alguma província a opressão do pobre, e a violenta perversão do julgamento e da justiça, não te admires de tal acontecimento; pois aquele que é mais alto do que aquele que é considerado o mais alto; há ainda outros mais altos do que eles.
9 He that loueth siluer, shall not be satisfied with siluer, and he that loueth riches, shalbe without the fruite thereof: this also is vanitie.
9 Ademais, o lucro da terra é para todos; até o próprio rei se serve do campo.
10 When goods increase, they are increased that eate them: and what good commeth to the owners thereof, but the beholding thereof with their eyes?
10 Aquele que ama a prata não se satisfará com a prata; e nem aquele que ama a abundância com o aumento; isto também é vaidade.
11 The sleepe of him that traueileth, is sweete, whether he eate litle or much: but the sacietie of the riche will not suffer him to sleepe.
11 Quando aumenta os bens, multiplicam-se os que os comem; que proveito têm os seus donos além de contemplá-los com os seus olhos?
12 There is an euill sickenes that I haue seene vnder the sunne: to wit, riches reserued to the owners thereof for their euill.
12 O sono de um trabalhador é doce, quer coma pouco quer muito; mas a fartura do rico não o permite dormir.
13 And these riches perish by euill trauel, and he begetteth a sonne, and in his hand is nothing.
13 Há um mal doloroso que vi debaixo do sol, a saber, as riquezas que os seus donos guardam para o seu próprio dano.
14 As hee came foorth of his mothers belly, he shall returne naked to goe as he came, and shall beare away nothing of his labour, which hee hath caused to passe by his hand.
14 Mas estas riquezas perecem pelo mau trabalho, e havendo um filho, nada lhe fica na sua mão.
15 And this also is an euill sickenes that in all pointes as he came, so shall he goe, and what profit hath he that he hath traueiled for the winde?
15 Assim como ele nasceu do ventre de sua mãe, nu tornará, assim como veio; e nada tomará do seu trabalho, que ele possa levar na sua mão.
16 Also all his dayes hee eateth in darkenes with much griefe, and in his sorowe and anger.
16 E isto também é um grave mal, que em todos os pontos, justamente como veio, assim ele há de ir; e que proveito ele tem em trabalhar para o vento?
17 Beholde then, what I haue seene good, that it is comely to eate, and to drinke, and to take pleasure in all his labour, wherein he traueileth vnder the sunne, the whole nomber of the dayes of his life, which God giueth him: for this is his portion.
17 E, em todos os seus dias também come em trevas, e tem muita angústia e ira por causa de sua enfermidade.
18 Also to euery man to whom God hath giuen riches and treasures, and giueth him power to eate thereof, and to take his part, and to enioy his labour: this is the gift of God.
18 Eis aqui o que eu vi: uma coisa boa e bela é comer e beber, e desfrutar cada um do bem de todo o trabalho que realizou debaixo do sol, todos os dias de vida que Deus lhe deu, porque esta é a sua porção.
19 Surely hee will not much remember the dayes of his life, because God answereth to the ioy of his heart.
19 E a todo o homem, também a quem Deus deu riquezas e bens, e lhe deu poder para delas comer e tomar a sua porção, e gozar do seu trabalho; isto é dádiva de Deus.
20 — ausente —
20 Porque ele não há de lembrar muito dos dias da sua vida; porquanto Deus lhe responde na alegria de seu coração.
