1 I Nebuchad-nezzar being at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace,
1 O rei Nabucodonosor mandou aos povos de todas as nações, raças e línguas a seguinte mensagem: — Felicidade e paz para todos!
2 Saw a dreame, which made me afraide, and the thoughtes vpon my bed, and the visions of mine head troubled me.
2 Quero que todos saibam dos maravilhosos milagres que o Deus Altíssimo fez em meu favor.
3 Therefore made I a decree, that they should bring all the wise men of Babel before mee, that they might declare vnto me the interpretation of the dreame.
3 Grandes são os seus milagres, e as coisas que ele fez são espantosas! Pois ele é o Rei eterno e reinará para sempre.
4 So came the inchanters, the astrologians, the Caldeans and the sothsayers, to whom I tolde the dreame, but they could not shew me the interpretation thereof,
4 E continuou: — Eu, Nabucodonosor, vivia sossegado no meu palácio, e tudo ia muito bem.
5 Till at the last Daniel came before mee, (whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, which hath the spirite of the holy gods in him) and before him I tolde the dreame, saying,
5 Mas certa noite tive um sonho que me deixou preocupado. Enquanto dormia, ideias e visões horrorosas tomaram conta de mim.
6 O Belteshazzar, chiefe of the enchanters, because I know, that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell mee the visions of my dreame, that I haue seene and the interpretation thereof.
6 Por isso, mandei chamar todos os sábios da Babilônia, para que eles me explicassem o sonho.
7 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed. And beholde, I sawe a tree in the middes of the earth and the height thereof was great:
7 Vieram então os sábios, os adivinhos, os astrólogos e os feiticeiros, e eu lhes contei o sonho, mas nenhum deles pôde explicá-lo.
8 A great tree and strong, and the height thereof reached vnto heauen, and the sight thereof to the endes of all the earth.
8 Finalmente, apresentou-se Daniel, conhecido também como Beltessazar, nome que recebeu em honra do meu deus. O espírito dos santos deuses está nele, e por isso eu lhe contei o meu sonho. Eu disse:
9 The boughes thereof were faire and the fruite thereof much, and in it was meate for all: it made a shadow vnder it for the beastes of the fielde, and the foules of the heauen dwelt in the boughes thereof, and all flesh fedde of it.
9 “Beltessazar, chefe dos adivinhos, eu sei que o espírito dos santos deuses está em você e que não há mistério que você não possa explicar. Por isso vou lhe contar o sonho e quero que você explique o que ele quer dizer.
10 I sawe in the visions of mine head vpon my bed, and beholde, a watchman and an holy one came downe from heauen,
10 Eu estava deitado na cama e, de repente, tive uma visão. Nela vi uma árvore muito alta, plantada no centro da terra.
11 And cried aloude, and said thus, Hew downe the tree, and breake off his branches: shake off his leaues, and scatter his fruite, that the beastes may flee from vnder it, and the foules from his branches.
11 A árvore cresceu e cresceu até tocar o céu e era tão grande, que podia ser vista de qualquer lugar do mundo.
12 Neuerthelesse leaue the stumpe of his rootes in the earth, and with a band of yron and brasse binde it among the grasse of the fielde, and let it be wet with the dewe of heauen, and let his portion be with the beastes among the grasse of the fielde.
12 As suas folhas eram belas, e ela dava tantas frutas, que o mundo todo podia se alimentar delas. Animais selvagens descansavam na sombra da árvore, as aves faziam ninhos nos seus galhos, e todos os seres vivos se alimentavam das suas frutas.
13 Let his heart be changed from mans nature, and let a beasts heart be giuen vnto him, and let seuen times be passed ouer him.
13 Eu ainda estava sonhando, quando, de repente, vi um anjo-vigia que descia do céu
14 The sentence is according to the decree of the watchmen, and according to the word of the holy ones: the demaunde was answered, to the intent that liuing men may knowe, that the most High hath power ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it to whomsoeuer he will, and appointeth ouer it the most abiect among men.
14 e dizia em voz muito alta: ‘Derrubem a árvore, cortem os seus galhos, tirem as folhas e joguem fora as frutas. Espantem os animais que estão descansando na sua sombra e as aves que estão nos seus galhos.
15 This is the dreame, that I King Nebuchad-nezzar haue seene: therefore thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof: for all the wisemen of my kingdome are not able to shewe mee the interpretation: but thou art able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.
15 Mas deixem ficar o toco e as suas raízes e o amarrem com correntes de ferro e de bronze, no meio do capim bravo, no campo. Assim o sereno cairá sobre esse toco — esse homem —, e ele comerá capim como os animais.
16 Then Daniel (whose name was Belteshazzar) held his peace by the space of one houre, and his thoughts troubled him, and the King spake and said, Belteshazzar, let neither the dreame, nor the interpretation thereof trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and saide, My lord, the dreame be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.
16 Ele perderá o juízo e começará a pensar como animal; sete anos viverá assim.
17 The tree that thou sawest, which was great and mightie, whose height reached vnto the heauen, and the sight thereof through all the world,
17 Esta é a sentença dada pelos anjos, pelos anjos-vigias do céu, a fim de que todos saibam que o Deus Altíssimo domina todos os reinos do mundo. Ele dá esses reinos a quem quer, mesmo ao mais humilde de todos os homens.’ ”
18 Whose leaues were faire and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meate for all, vnder the which the beastes of the fielde dwelt, and vpon whose branches the foules of the heauen did sit,
18 E Nabucodonosor terminou, dizendo: — Foi esse o sonho que eu tive, e nenhum dos meus sábios pôde me explicar o que ele quer dizer. Mas você, Beltessazar, pode dar a explicação porque o espírito dos santos deuses está em você. Portanto, explique o que o sonho quer dizer.
19 It is thou, O King, that art great and mightie: for thy greatnesse is growen, and reacheth vnto heauen, and thy dominion to the endes of the earth.
19 Ao ouvir isso, Daniel, também conhecido como Beltessazar, ficou espantado e por alguns instantes não sabia o que pensar. O rei lhe disse: — Beltessazar, não se preocupe com o sonho nem com o que ele quer dizer. Mas Daniel respondeu: — Ó rei, quem dera que o sonho e a sua mensagem não fossem a respeito do senhor, mas a respeito dos seus inimigos!
20 Where as the King sawe a watchman, and an holy one, that came downe from heauen, and said, Hew downe the tree and destroy it, yet leaue the stumpe of the rootes thereof in the earth, and with a bande of yron and brasse binde it among the grasse of the fielde, and let it be wette with the dewe of heauen, and let his portion be with the beastes of the fielde, till seuen times passe ouer him,
20 O senhor viu uma árvore que cresceu e cresceu até tocar o céu e que era tão grande, que podia ser vista de qualquer lugar do mundo.
21 This is the interpretation, O King, and it is the decree of the most High, which is come vpon my lord the King,
21 As suas folhas eram belas, e ela dava tantas frutas, que o mundo todo podia se alimentar delas. Animais selvagens descansavam na sombra da árvore, e as aves faziam ninhos nos seus galhos.
22 That they shall driue thee from men, and thy dwelling shalbe with the beasts of the fielde: they shall make thee to eate grasse as the oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dewe of heauen: and seuen times shall passe ouer thee, till thou knowe, that the most High beareth rule ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it to whom so euer he will.
22 — Aquela árvore, ó rei, é o senhor. Pois o senhor se tornou poderoso, e o seu poder aumentou tanto, que chegou até o céu, e o seu domínio se estendeu pelo mundo inteiro.
23 Where as they sayd, that one should leaue the stumpe of the tree rootes, thy kingdome shall remaine vnto thee: after that, thou shalt knowe, that the heauens haue the rule.
23 E o senhor viu também um anjo-vigia descendo do céu e dizendo: “Derrubem a árvore e quebrem todos os seus galhos, mas deixem ficar o toco e as suas raízes e o amarrem com correntes de ferro e de bronze, para que fique no meio do capim bravo, no campo. Assim o sereno cairá sobre esse homem, e ele terá de comer o que os animais comem. Sete anos ele viverá assim.”
24 Wherefore, O King, let my counsell be acceptable vnto thee, and breake off thy sinnes by righteousnes, and thine iniquities by mercy toward the poore: lo, let there be an healing of thine errour.
24 E Daniel continuou: — E agora vou dar a explicação. Este sonho trata da sentença do Deus Altíssimo contra o senhor, ó rei.
25 All these things shall come vpon the King Nebuchad-nezzar.
25 O senhor será expulso do meio dos seres humanos e ficará morando com os animais selvagens. O senhor comerá capim como os bois, dormirá ao ar livre e ficará molhado pelo sereno. Isso durará sete anos, até que o senhor reconheça que o Deus Altíssimo domina todos os reinos do mundo e coloca como rei o homem que ele quer.
26 At the end of twelue moneths, he walked in the royall palace of Babel.
26 A ordem do anjo para que deixassem ficar o toco da árvore com as raízes quer dizer que o senhor será rei de novo, mas só quando confessar que Deus domina o mundo inteiro.
27 And the King spake and sayde, Is not this great Babel, that I haue built for the house of the kingdome by the might of my power, and for the honour of my maiestie?
27 Ó rei, aceite o meu conselho. Deixe de pecar e faça o que é certo; acabe com as suas maldades e ajude os pobres. Assim talvez o senhor possa continuar a viver em paz e felicidade.
28 While the worde was in the Kings mouth, a voyce came downe from heauen, saying, O King Nebuchad-nezzar, to thee be it spoken, Thy kingdome is departed from thee,
28 E, de fato, tudo isso aconteceu com o rei Nabucodonosor.
29 And they shall driue thee from men, and thy dwelling shalbe with the beastes of the fielde: they shall make thee to eate grasse, as the oxen, and seuen times shall passe ouer thee, vntill thou knowest, that the most High beareth rule ouer the kingdome of men, and giueth it vnto whomsoeuer he will.
29 Doze meses mais tarde, ele estava passeando no terraço do seu palácio na cidade de Babilônia
30 The very same houre was this thing fulfilled vpon Nebuchad-nezzar, and hee was driuen from men, and did eate grasse as the oxen, and his body was wet with the dewe of heauen, till his heares were growen as eagles feathers, and his nailes like birds clawes.
30 e disse: — Como é grande a cidade de Babilônia! Com o meu grande poder, eu a construí para ser a capital do meu reino, a fim de mostrar a todos a minha grandeza e a minha
31 And at the ende of these dayes I Nebuchad-nezzar lift vp mine eyes vnto heauen, and mine vnderstanding was restored vnto me, and I gaue thankes vnto the most High, and I praysed and honoured him that liueth for euer, whose power is an euerlasting power, and his kingdome is from generation to generation.
31 O rei ainda estava falando quando veio uma voz do céu, que disse: — Preste atenção, rei Nabucodonosor! Este reino não é mais seu.
32 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and according to his will he worketh in the armie of heauen, and in the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, nor say vnto him, What doest thou?
32 Você será expulso do meio dos seres humanos, ficará morando com os animais selvagens e comerá capim como os bois. Isso durará sete anos, até que você reconheça que o Deus Altíssimo domina todos os reinos do mundo e coloca como rei quem ele quer.
33 At the same time was mine vnderstanding restored vnto me, and I returned to the honour of my kingdome: my glory and my beautie was restored vnto me, and my counsellours and my princes sought vnto me, and I was established in my kingdome, and my glory was augmented toward me.
33 Naquele mesmo instante, cumpriu-se a sentença contra Nabucodonosor. Ele foi expulso do meio dos seres humanos e começou a comer capim como os bois. Dormia ao ar livre e ficava molhado pelo sereno. O seu cabelo ficou comprido, parecido com penas de águia, e as suas unhas cresceram tanto, que pareciam garras de um gavião.
34 Now therefore I Nebuchad-nezzar prayse and extoll and magnifie the King of heauen, whose workes are all trueth, and his wayes iudgement, and those that walke in pride, he is able to abase.
34 O rei disse: — Depois de passados os sete anos, eu olhei para o céu, e o meu juízo voltou. Aí agradeci ao Deus Altíssimo e dei louvor e “O poder do Altíssimo é eterno; o seu
35 — ausente —
35 Para ele, os seres humanos não têm nenhum valor; ele governa todos os anjos do céu e todos os moradores da terra. Não há ninguém que possa impedi-lo de fazer o que quer; não há ninguém que possa obrigá-lo a explicar o que faz.”
36 — ausente —
36 — Logo que o meu juízo voltou — continuou Nabucodonosor —, eu recebi outra vez a minha honra, a minha majestade e a glória do meu reino. Os meus conselheiros e as altas autoridades do meu governo me receberam de volta. Fui rei de novo, com mais poder do que antes.
37 — ausente —
37 Portanto, eu, o rei Nabucodonosor, agradeço ao Rei do céu e lhe dou louvor e glória. Tudo o que ele faz é certo e justo, e ele pode humilhar qualquer pessoa orgulhosa.
