1 Iosiah was eight yeere olde when hee began to reigne, and he reigned in Ierusalem one and thirtie yeere.
1 Josias tinha oito anos de idade quando se tornou rei de Judá. Ele governou trinta e um anos em Jerusalém.
2 And he did vprightly in the sight of ye Lord, and walked in the wayes of Dauid his father, and bowed neither to the right hand nor to the left.
2 Josias fez o que agrada a Deus, o Senhor ; seguiu o exemplo do seu antepassado, o rei Davi, e não se desviou nem para um lado nem para o outro.
3 And in the eight yeere of his reigne (when he was yet a childe) he began to seeke after the God of Dauid his father: and in the twelft yeere he began to purge Iudah, and Ierusalem from the hie places, and the groues, and the carued images, and molten images:
3 No oitavo ano do seu reinado, quando era ainda bem moço, Josias começou a adorar o Deus do seu antepassado Davi. E quatro anos mais tarde começou a purificar a terra de Judá e a cidade de Jerusalém, destruindo os lugares pagãos de adoração, os postes da deusa Aserá e as outras imagens de pedra e de metal.
4 And they brake downe in his sight the altars of Baalim, and hee caused to cut downe the images that were on hie vpon them: he brake also the groues, and the carued images, and the molten images, and stampt them to pouder, and strowed it vpon the graues of them that had sacrificed vnto them.
4 Na presença dele, foram derrubados os altares do deus Baal , e ele mesmo quebrou os altares de incenso que estavam em cima deles. Quebrou também os postes da deusa Aserá e as outras imagens de pedra e de metal, os esmigalhou até virarem pó e espalhou o pó em cima das sepulturas das pessoas que tinham oferecido sacrifícios a esses ídolos.
5 Also he burnt the bones of the Priests vpon their altars, and purged Iudah and Ierusalem.
5 Depois queimou os ossos dos sacerdotes pagãos nos altares onde eles haviam oferecido sacrifícios. Assim Josias purificou Judá e Jerusalém.
6 And in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, euen vnto Naphtali, with their maules they brake all round about.
6 Ele fez a mesma coisa nas cidades das tribos de Manassés, de Efraim, de Simeão e até de Naftali e nas ruínas ao redor daquelas cidades.
7 And when he had destroyed the altars and the groues, and had broken and stamped to pouder the images, and had cut downe all the idoles throughout all the land of Israel, hee returned to Ierusalem.
7 Ele andou por todo o país de Israel, derrubando os altares, os postes da deusa Aserá e os outros ídolos, esmigalhando-os até virarem pó e quebrando todos os altares de incenso. Depois voltou para Jerusalém.
8 Then in the eightenth yere of his reigne, when hee had purged the lande and the Temple, he sent Shaphan the sonne of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the gouernour of the citie, and Ioah the sonne of Ioahaz the recorder, to repaire the house of the Lord his God.
8 No ano dezoito do seu reinado, depois de ter purificado o país e o Templo, Josias enviou os seguintes homens para fazerem os consertos no Templo: Safã, filho de Azalias; Maaseias, o governador de Jerusalém; e o conselheiro do rei, Joá, filho de Joacaz.
9 And when they came to Hilkiah the hie Priest, they deliuered ye money that was brought into the house of God, which the Leuites that kept the doore, had gathered at the hand of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and of all the residue of Israel, and of all Iudah and Beniamin, and of the inhabitantes of Ierusalem.
9 Eles foram falar com o Grande Sacerdote Hilquias e lhe entregaram o dinheiro que os levitas tinham recebido e trazido ao Templo. Esse dinheiro tinha sido dado por gente das tribos de Manassés e de Efraim e do resto do Reino de Israel, e também por gente das tribos de Judá e de Benjamim e pelos moradores de Jerusalém.
10 And they put it in the hands of them that should doe the worke and had the ouersight in the house of the Lord: and they gaue it to the workemen that wrought in the house of ye Lord, to repaire and amend the house.
10 O dinheiro foi entregue aos homens que estavam encarregados dos consertos, e estes o usaram para pagar os trabalhadores que estavam reconstruindo e consertando o Templo.
11 Euen to the workemen and to the builders gaue they it, to bye hewed stone and timber for couples and for beames of the houses, which the Kings of Iudah had destroyed.
11 Deram o dinheiro aos carpinteiros e aos construtores para comprarem pedras trabalhadas e madeira para as vigas e para os outros consertos que deviam ser feitos nos edifícios que os reis de Judá haviam deixado cair aos pedaços. Os trabalhadores eram honestos em tudo, e os seus chefes eram quatro levitas: Jaate e Obadias, do grupo de Merari, e Zacarias e Mesulã, do grupo de Coate. Eles eram chefes também dos guardas dos portões e de todos os outros homens que trabalhavam no Templo. Todos os levitas sabiam tocar bem instrumentos musicais, e alguns deles eram escrivães, outros eram fiscais, e outros eram guardas dos portões.
12 And the men did the worke faithfully, and the ouerseers of them were Iahath and Obadiah the Leuites, of the children of Merari, and Zechariah, and Meshullam, of the children of the Kohathites to set it forward: and of the Leuites all that could skill of instruments of musike.

13 And they were ouer the bearers of burdens, and them that set forwarde all the workemen in euery worke: and of the Leuites were scribes, and officers and porters.

14 And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the Priest found the booke of the Lawe of the Lord giuen by the hand of Moses.
14 Enquanto entregavam o dinheiro que havia sido dado para o Templo, Hilquias achou o Livro da Lei de Deus, a Lei que o Senhor tinha dado por meio de Moisés.
15 Therefore Hilkiah answered and sayde to Shaphan the chaceler, I haue found the booke of the Law in the house of the Lord: and Hilkiah gaue the booke to Shaphan.
15 Hilquias disse a Safã, o escrivão: — Achei o Livro da Lei aqui no Templo. E deu o livro a Safã.
16 And Shaphan caried the booke to the King, and brought the King worde againe, saying, All that is committed to the hand of thy seruants, that do they.
16 Este o levou ao rei e prestou o seu relatório, dizendo: — Nós, seus servidores, fizemos tudo o que o senhor mandou.
17 For they haue gathered the money that was found in the house of the Lord, and haue deliuered it into the handes of the ouerseers, and to the handes of the workemen.
17 Pegamos o dinheiro que estava no Templo e o entregamos aos trabalhadores e aos seus chefes.
18 Also Shaphan ye chanceler declared to the King, saying, Hilkiah the Priest hath giuen mee a booke, and Shaphan read it before the King.
18 Safã disse também: — Tenho aqui comigo um livro que Hilquias me entregou. E leu o livro em voz alta para o rei.
19 And when the King had heard the wordes of the Lawe, he tare his clothes.
19 Quando ouviu o que o livro dizia, o rei rasgou as suas roupas em sinal de tristeza.
20 And the King commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan, and Abdon the sonne of Micah, and Shaphan the chanceler, and Asaiah the Kings seruant, saying,
20 Então deu a Hilquias e a Aicã, filho de Safã, e a Abdom, filho de Micaías, e a Safã, o escrivão, e a Asaías, o servidor do rei, a seguinte ordem:
21 Goe and enquire of the Lord for me, and for the rest in Israel and Iudah, concerning the wordes of this booke that is founde: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is fallen vpon vs, because our fathers haue not kept the worde of the Lord, to doe after all that is written in this booke.
21 — Vão consultar a Deus, o Senhor , por mim e por todo o povo de Israel e de Judá a respeito dos ensinamentos deste livro. Deus está muito irado conosco porque os nossos antepassados não obedeceram às ordens do Senhor , nem fizeram o que este livro manda.
22 Then Hilkiah and they that the King had appoynted, went to Huldah the Prophetesse ye wife of Shallum, the sonne of Tokhath, the sonne of Hasrah keeper of the wardrobe (and she dwelt in Ierusalem within the colledge) and they communed hereof with her.
22 Então Hilquias e os homens que o rei tinha enviado foram falar com uma profetisa chamada Hulda, que morava no bairro novo de Jerusalém. O marido dela, que se chamava Salum, filho de Ticva e neto de Harás, era o encarregado da rouparia do Templo. Eles contaram a Hulda o que havia acontecido,
23 And shee answered them, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Tell yee the man that sent you to me,
23 e ela lhes disse que voltassem e dessem ao rei a seguinte mensagem de Deus:
24 Thus saith the Lord, Beholde, I will bring euill vpon this place, and vpon the inhabitantes thereof, euen all the curses, that are written in the booke which they haue read before the King of Iudah:
24 — Eu, o Senhor , o Deus de Israel, vou castigar a cidade de Jerusalém e todo o seu povo com todos os castigos escritos no livro que foi lido para o rei de Judá.
25 Because they haue forsaken me, and burnt incense vnto other gods, to anger mee with al the workes of their hands, therefore shall my wrath fall vpon this place, and shall not be quenched.
25 Eles me abandonaram e têm oferecido sacrifícios a outros deuses e assim me fizeram ficar irado por causa de todas as coisas que têm feito. A minha ira se acendeu contra Jerusalém e não vai se apagar.
26 But to the King of Iudah, who sent you to enquire of the Lord, so shall ye say vnto him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The words which thou hast heard, shall come to passe.
26 Eu, o Senhor , o Deus de Israel, digo isto ao rei: “Você ouviu o que está escrito no livro,
27 But because thine heart did melt, and thou didest humble thy selfe before God, when thou heardest his wordes against this place and against the inhabitantes thereof, and humbledst thy selfe before mee and tarest thy clothes, and weptest before mee, I haue also heard it, sayth the Lord.
27 e se arrependeu, e se humilhou diante de mim, rasgando as suas roupas e chorando quando ouviu como ameacei castigar a cidade de Jerusalém e o seu povo. Eu ouvi a sua oração
28 Beholde, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt bee put in thy graue in peace, and thine eyes shall not see all the euill, which I will bring vpon this place, and vpon the inhabitants of the same. Thus they brought ye King word againe.
28 e por isso só depois da sua morte é que vou castigar Jerusalém e o seu povo. Vou deixar que você morra em paz.” Então os homens levaram ao rei essa resposta.
29 Then the King sent and gathered all the Elders of Iudah and Ierusalem.
29 O rei Josias mandou que todos os líderes de Judá e de Jerusalém se reunissem,
30 And the King went vp into the house of the Lord, and all the men of Iudah, and the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and the Priests and the Leuites, and all the people from the greatest to the smallest, and hee read in their eares all the wordes of the booke of the couenant that was found in the house of the Lord.
30 e todos foram juntos até o Templo, acompanhados pelos sacerdotes, pelos levitas e por todo o resto do povo de Jerusalém e de Judá, desde os mais importantes até os mais humildes. Então o rei leu diante deles todo o Livro da Aliança , que havia sido achado no Templo.
31 And the King stood by his pillar, and made a couenant before the Lord, to walke after the Lord, and to keepe his commandements, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soule, and that he would accomplish the wordes of the couenant written in the same booke.
31 Ele ficou perto da coluna real, em pé, e fez com Deus, o Senhor , uma aliança pela qual eles lhe obedeceriam e guardariam as suas leis e mandamentos com todo o coração e com toda a alma. E também cumpririam tudo o que a aliança mandava fazer, como estava escrito no livro.
32 And he caused all that were found in Ierusalem, and Beniamin to stande to it: and the inhabitants of Ierusalem did according to the couenant of God, euen the God of their fathers.
32 Então Josias fez com que todo o povo de Jerusalém e da tribo de Benjamim prometesse ser fiel à aliança. Assim os moradores de Jerusalém foram fiéis à aliança feita com o Deus dos seus antepassados.
33 So Iosiah tooke away al the abominations out of all the countreis that perteined to the children of Israel, and compelled all that were found in Israel, to serue the Lord their God: so all his dayes they turned not backe from the Lord God of their fathers.
33 Josias acabou com todos os ídolos nojentos que havia nas terras dos israelitas e fez com que todos os israelitas adorassem o Senhor , seu Deus. Enquanto Josias viveu, o povo não deixou de obedecer ao Senhor , o Deus dos seus antepassados.
