1 After these things faithfully described, Saneherib King of Asshur came and entred into Iudah, and besieged the strong cities, and thought to winne them for him selfe.
1 Depois de tudo isso e dessas provas de fidelidade que o rei Ezequias deu, Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, invadiu o país de Judá. O seu exército cercou as cidades protegidas por muralhas, procurando conquistá-las.
2 When Hezekiah sawe that Saneherib was come, and that his purpose was to fight against Ierusalem,
2 Quando Ezequias viu que Senaqueribe estava planejando atacar Jerusalém também,
3 Then he tooke counsell with his princes and his nobles, to stoppe the water of the fountaines without the citie: and they did helpe him.
3 consultou os seus chefes militares e civis e propôs que tapassem as fontes de água que ficavam fora da cidade; e eles concordaram com o plano.
4 So many of the people assembled themselues, and stopt all the fountaines, and the riuer that ranne through the middes of the countrey, saying, Why should the Kings of Asshur come, and finde much water?
4 Muita gente se ajuntou, e foram tapar todas as fontes e também o canal que atravessava aquela região. Isso foi feito para que os assírios encontrassem pouca água quando chegassem perto da cidade.
5 And he tooke courage, and built all the broken wall, and made vp the towers, and another wall without, and repayred Millo in the citie of Dauid, and made many dartes and shields.
5 Ezequias se animou e consertou a muralha da cidade, construiu torres em cima dela e levantou outra muralha ao redor da que já existia. Também construiu defesas no aterro que havia sido feito no lado leste, na Cidade de Davi ; e mandou fazer muitas lanças e escudos .
6 And he set captaines of warre ouer the people, and assembled them to him in the broade place of the gate of the citie, and spake comfortably vnto them, saying,
6 Colocou oficiais no comando de todos os homens da cidade, mandou os oficiais se reunirem na praça do portão de entrada da cidade e disse:
7 Be strong and couragious: feare not, neither be afraide for the King of Asshur, neither for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with vs, then is with him.
7 — Sejam fortes e corajosos! Não fiquem assustados, nem tenham medo do rei da Assíria e do seu enorme exército. Pois aquele que está do nosso lado é mais poderoso do que o que está do lado dele.
8 With him is an arme of flesh, but with vs is the Lord our God for to helpe vs, and to fight our battels. Then the people were confirmed by the wordes of Hezekiah King of Iudah.
8 Ele só conta com a força dos homens, mas do nosso lado está o Senhor , nosso Deus, para nos ajudar e para guerrear por nós. E o povo ficou animado ao ouvir as palavras do rei Ezequias.
9 After this, did Saneherib King of Asshur send his seruants to Ierusalem (while he was against Lachish, and all his dominion with him) vnto Hezekiah King of Iudah and vnto all Iudah that were at Ierusalem, saying,
9 Algum tempo depois, Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, junto com o seu exército estava cercando a cidade de Laquis. Ele enviou alguns oficiais a Jerusalém para entregarem ao rei Ezequias a seguinte mensagem:
10 Thus saith Saneherib the King of Asshur, Wherein doe ye trust, that ye will remaine in Ierusalem, during the siege?
10 “Eu, Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, quero saber como é que vocês, moradores de Jerusalém, podem se sentir seguros ficando aí enquanto o exército inimigo está cercando a cidade.
11 Doeth not Hezekiah entice you to giue ouer your selues vnto death by famine and by thirst, saying, The Lord our God shall deliuer vs out of the hande of the King of Asshur?
11 Ezequias diz que o Senhor , o Deus de vocês, os livrará das minhas mãos; mas ele os está enganando, e vocês morrerão de fome e de sede.
12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his hie places and his altars, and commanded Iudah and Ierusalem, saying, Ye shall worshippe before one altar, and burne incense vpon it?
12 Pois foi o próprio Ezequias que acabou com os lugares de adoração e com os altares desse Deus e disse ao povo de Judá e aos moradores de Jerusalém que adorassem a Deus diante de um altar só e queimassem incenso somente naquele altar.
13 Knowe ye not what I and my fathers haue done vnto all the people of other countreyes? were the gods of the nations of other landes able to deliuer their land out of mine hande?
13 Será que vocês não sabem o que eu e os meus antepassados fizemos com os povos de outras nações? Vocês pensam que os deuses daquelas nações foram capazes de salvá-las das minhas mãos?
14 Who is he of al the gods of those natios (that my fathers haue destroied) that could deliuer his people out of mine hande? that your God should be able to deliuer you out of mine hand?
14 Não houve nenhum deus das nações que os meus antepassados conquistaram que fosse capaz de salvar o seu povo do meu poder. Então por que é que vocês pensam que o seu Deus pode salvá-los das minhas mãos?
15 Nowe therefore let not Hezekiah deceiue you, nor seduce you after this sort, neither beleeue ye him: for none of all the gods of any nation or kingdome was able to deliuer his people out of mine hande and out of the hande of my fathers: howe much lesse shall your gods deliuer you out of mine hande?
15 Portanto, não deixem que Ezequias os engane assim. Não se iludam, não acreditem nele. Nunca houve nenhum deus que pudesse salvar o seu povo do poder dos meus antepassados ou do meu poder. Muito menos o Deus de vocês poderá salvá-los!”
16 And his seruants spake yet more against the Lord God, and against his seruant Hezekiah.
16 Os oficiais assírios disseram coisas ainda piores contra Deus, o Senhor , e contra o seu servo Ezequias.
17 He wrote also letters, blaspheming the Lord God of Israel and speaking against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other countreies could not deliuer their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliuer his people out of mine hande.
17 E Senaqueribe escreveu cartas em que insultava o Senhor , o Deus de Israel, dizendo o seguinte contra ele: “Os deuses de outras nações não salvaram os seus povos das minhas mãos; assim também o Deus de Ezequias não salvará o seu povo das minhas mãos.”
18 Then they cryed with a loude voyce in the Iewes speach vnto the people of Ierusalem that were on the wall, to feare them and to astonish them, that they might take the citie.
18 Os oficiais gritaram isso em hebraico aos moradores de Jerusalém que estavam em cima da muralha da cidade, a fim de assustá-los e deixá-los apavorados e assim poder conquistar a cidade.
19 Thus they spake against the God of Ierusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, euen the workes of mans hands,
19 Os oficiais falaram a respeito do Deus de Jerusalém como se ele fosse como os deuses de outros povos, que são ídolos feitos por mãos humanas.
20 But Hezekiah the King, and the Prophet Isaiah the sonne of Amoz prayed against this and cryed to heauen.
20 Aí o rei Ezequias e o profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz, oraram a Deus e pediram a sua ajuda.
21 And the Lord sent an Angel which destroyed all the valiant men, and the princes and captaines of the hoste of the King of Asshur: so he returned with shame to his owne lande. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came foorth of his owne bowels, slewe him there with the sworde.
21 Então o Senhor Deus enviou um anjo que matou todos os soldados e todos os oficiais do exército assírio. O rei Senaqueribe voltou envergonhado para o seu país. Certo dia, quando estava adorando no templo do seu deus, alguns dos seus filhos o mataram à espada.
22 So the Lord saued Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Ierusalem from the hande of Saneherib King of Asshur, and from the hande of all other, and maintained them on euery side.
22 Foi assim que o Senhor Deus salvou Ezequias e os moradores de Jerusalém das mãos de Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, e das mãos de todos os outros inimigos. E Deus deu ao seu povo paz com todos os países vizinhos.
23 And many brought offrings vnto the Lord to Ierusalem, and presents to Hezekiah King of Iudah, so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thencefoorth.
23 Muitas pessoas iam a Jerusalém levando ofertas ao Senhor e ricos presentes para o rei Ezequias, de Judá. Daquela época em diante, a fama de Ezequias foi crescendo em todas as nações.
24 In those dayes Hezekiah was sicke vnto the death, and prayed vnto the Lord, who spake vnto him, and gaue him a signe.
24 Por esse tempo, o rei Ezequias ficou doente e quase morreu. Então orou a Deus, o Senhor , e Deus respondeu, dando um sinal para provar que ele ficaria bom.
25 But Hezekiah did not render according to the rewarde bestowed vpon him: for his heart was lift vp, and wrath came vpon him, and vpon Iudah and Ierusalem.
25 Deus foi bondoso com Ezequias, mas ele não lhe agradeceu, pois era orgulhoso. Por isso, Deus ficou irado com ele, com o povo de Judá e com os moradores de Jerusalém.
26 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled him selfe (after that his heart was lifted vp) he and the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and the wrath of the Lord came not vpon them in the dayes of Hezekiah.
26 Aí Ezequias se arrependeu do seu orgulho, como também os moradores de Jerusalém, e assim o Senhor só castigou o povo depois da morte de Ezequias.
27 Hezekiah also had exceeding much riches and honour, and he gate him treasures of siluer, and of golde, and of precious stones, and of sweete odours, and of shieldes, and of all pleasant vessels:
27 Ezequias ficou muito rico e recebeu muitas homenagens. Construiu depósitos para guardar a prata, o ouro, as pedras preciosas, as especiarias , os escudos e os outros objetos de valor que possuía.
28 And of store houses for the increase of wheat and wine and oyle, and stalles for all beasts, and rowes for the stables.
28 Construiu também armazéns para os cereais, o vinho e o azeite, estrebarias para o gado e currais para os carneiros.
29 And he made him cities, and had possession of sheepe and oxen in abundance: for God had giuen him substance exceeding much.
29 Ezequias também construiu cidades. Ele se tornou dono de muito gado e de muitos carneiros, pois Deus lhe deu muitas riquezas.
30 This same Hezekiah also stopped the vpper water springs of Gihon, and led them streight vnderneath towarde the citie of Dauid Westwarde. so Hezekiah prospered in all his workes.
30 Foi Ezequias quem mandou tapar a saída de cima da fonte de Giom e cavar no lado oeste de Jerusalém um túnel para levar água para dentro da cidade. Tudo o que Ezequias fez deu certo.
31 But because of the ambassadours of the princes of Babel, which sent vnto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the lande, God left him to trie him, and to knowe all that was in his heart.
31 Quando as altas autoridades da Babilônia enviaram mensageiros a Ezequias para fazerem perguntas sobre o milagre que havia acontecido em Judá, Deus não o ajudou, pois queria pô-lo à prova a fim de descobrir o que estava no fundo do seu coração.
32 Concerning the rest of the actes of Hezekiah, and his goodnesse, beholde, they are written in the vision of Ishiah the Prophet, the sonne of Amoz, in the booke of the Kings of Iudah and Israel.
32 Tudo o mais que Ezequias fez, inclusive as coisas que fez como prova da sua dedicação a Deus, está escrito na Visão do Profeta Isaías, Filho de Amoz , e na História dos Reis de Judá e de Israel .
33 So Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buryed him in the highest sepulchre of the sonnes of Dauid: and all Iudah and the inhabitants of Ierusalem did him honour at his death: and Manasseh his sonne reigned in his stead.
33 Ezequias morreu e foi sepultado na parte de cima dos túmulos dos reis, que eram descendentes de Davi. Quando ele morreu, o povo de Judá e os moradores de Jerusalém lhe prestaram homenagens. E o seu filho Manassés ficou no lugar dele como rei.
