1 Seing then we haue these promises, dearely beloued, let vs clense our selues from all filthinesse of the flesh and spirit, and finish our sanctification in the feare of God.
1 Depositários de tais promessas, caríssimos, purifiquemo-nos de toda imundície da carne e do espírito, realizando plenamente nossa santificação no temor de Deus.
2 Receiue vs: we haue done wrong to no man: we haue corrupted no man: we haue defrauded no man.
2 Acolhei-nos dentro do vosso coração. A ninguém temos ofendido, a ninguém temos arruinado, a ninguém temos enganado.
3 I speake it not to your condemnation: for I haue said before, that ye are in our hearts, to die and liue together.
3 Não vos digo isto por vos condenar, pois já vos declaramos que estais em nosso coração, conosco unidos na morte e unidos na vida.
4 I vse great boldnesse of speach toward you: I reioyce greatly in you: I am filled with comfort, and am exceeding ioyous in all our tribulation.
4 Tenho grande confiança em vós. Grande é o motivo de me gloriar de vós. Estou cheio de consolação, transbordo de gozo em todas as nossas tribulações.
5 For when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on euery side, fightings without, and terrours within.
5 De fato, à nossa chegada em Macedônia, nenhum repouso teve o nosso corpo. Eram aflições de todos os lados, combates por fora, temores por dentro.
6 But God, that comforteth the abiect, comforted vs at the comming of Titus:
6 Deus, porém, que consola os humildes, confortou-nos com a chegada de Tito;
7 And not by his comming onely, but also by the consolation wherewith he was comforted of you, when he tolde vs your great desire, your mourning, your feruent minde to me warde, so that I reioyced much more.
7 e não somente com a sua chegada, mas também com a consolação que ele recebeu de vós. Ele nos contou o vosso ardor, as vossas lágrimas, a vossa solicitude por mim, de modo que ainda mais me regozijei.
8 For though I made you sorie with a letter, I repent not, though I did repent: for I perceiue that the same epistle made you sorie, though it were but for a season.
8 Se minha carta vos penalizou, não me arrependo. Se a princípio o senti {porque vejo que, ao menos por um momento, essa carta vos penalizou},
9 I nowe reioyce, not that ye were sorie, but that ye sorowed to repentance: for ye sorowed godly, so that in nothing ye were hurt by vs.
9 agora me alegro, não porque fostes entristecidos, mas porque esta tristeza vos levou à penitência. Pois fostes entristecidos segundo Deus, de modo que nenhum dano sofrestes de nossa parte.
10 For godly sorowe causeth repentance vnto saluation, not to be repented of: but the worldly sorowe causeth death.
10 De fato, a tristeza segundo Deus produz um arrependimento salutar de que ninguém se arrepende, enquanto a tristeza do mundo produz a morte.
11 For beholde, this thing that ye haue bene godly sory, what great care it hath wrought in you: yea, what clearing of yourselues: yea, what indignation: yea, what feare: yea, howe great desire: yea, what a zeale: yea, what reuenge: in all things ye haue shewed your selues, that ye are pure in this matter.
11 Vede, pois, que solicitude operou em vós a tristeza segundo Deus! Muito mais: que excusas! Que indignação! Que temor! Que ardor! Que zelo! Que severidade! Mostrastes em tudo que não tínheis culpa neste assunto.
12 Wherefore, though I wrote vnto you, I did not it for his cause that had done the wrong, neither for his cause that had the iniurie, but that our care toward you in the sight of God might appeare vnto you.
12 Portanto, se vos escrevi, não o fiz por causa daquele que cometeu a ofensa, nem por causa do ofendido; foi para que se manifestasse a vossa dedicação por mim diante de Deus.
13 Therefore we were comforted, because ye were comforted: but rather we reioyced much more for the ioye of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.
13 Eis o que nos tem consolado. Mas, acima desta consolação, o que nos deixou sobremaneira contentes foi a alegria de Tito, cujo coração tranqüilizastes.
14 For if that I haue boasted any thing to him of you, I haue not bene ashamed: but as I haue spoken vnto you all things in trueth, euen so our boasting vnto Titus was true.
14 Se me gloriei de vós em presença dele, não fui envergonhado. Pois, assim como tudo o que vos temos dito foi conforme a verdade, assim também o louvor que de vós fizemos a Tito demonstrou-se verdadeiro.
15 And his inwarde affection is more aboundant toward you, when he remembreth the obedience of you all, and howe with feare and trembling ye receiued him.
15 A sua afeição por vós é cada vez maior, quando se lembra da obediência que todos vós lhe testemunhastes, de como o recebestes com respeito e deferência.
16 I reioyce therefore that I may put my confidence in you in all things.
16 Alegro-me por poder contar convosco em tudo.
