1 Nowe I Paul my selfe beseech you by the meekenes, and gentlenes of Christ, which when I am present among you am base, but am bolde toward you being absent:
1 Além disto, eu, Paulo, vos rogo, pela mansidão e benignidade de Cristo, eu que, na verdade, quando presente entre vós, sou humilde, mas ausente, ousado para convosco;
2 And this I require you, that I neede not to be bolde when I am present, with that same confidence, wherewith I thinke to bee bolde against some, which esteeme vs as though wee walked according to the flesh.
2 Rogo-vos, pois, que, quando estiver presente, não me veja obrigado a usar com confiança da ousadia que espero ter com alguns, que nos julgam, como se andássemos segundo a carne.
3 Neuerthelesse, though wee walke in the flesh, yet we doe not warre after the flesh.
3 Porque, andando na carne, não militamos segundo a carne.
4 (For the weapons of our warrefare are not carnall, but mightie through God, to cast downe holdes)
4 Porque as armas da nossa milícia não são carnais, mas sim poderosas em Deus para destruição das fortalezas;
5 Casting downe the imaginations, and euery high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captiuitie euery thought to the obedience of Christ,
5 Destruindo os conselhos, e toda a altivez que se levanta contra o conhecimento de Deus, e levando cativo todo o entendimento à obediência de Cristo;
6 And hauing ready the vengeance against all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
6 E estando prontos para vingar toda a desobediência, quando for cumprida a vossa obediência.
7 Looke yee on things after the appearance? If any man trust in himselfe that hee is Christes, let him consider this againe of himself, that as he is Christes, euen so are we Christes.
7 Olhais para as coisas segundo a aparência? Se alguém confia de si mesmo que é de Cristo, pense outra vez isto consigo, que, assim como ele é de Cristo, também nós de Cristo somos.
8 For though I shoulde boast somewhat more of our authoritie, which the Lord hath giuen vs for edification, and not for your destruction, I should haue no shame.
8 Porque, ainda que eu me glorie mais alguma coisa do nosso poder, o qual o Senhor nos deu para edificação, e não para vossa destruição, não me envergonharei.
9 This I say, that I may not seeme as it were to feare you with letters.
9 Para que não pareça como se quisera intimidar-vos por cartas.
10 For the letters, sayeth hee, are sore and strong, but his bodily presence is weake, and his speache is of no value.
10 Porque as suas cartas, dizem, são graves e fortes, mas a presença do corpo é fraca, e a palavra desprezível.
11 Let such one thinke this, that such as wee are in woorde by letters, when we are absent, such wil we be also in deede, when we are present.
11 Pense o tal isto, que, quais somos na palavra por cartas, estando ausentes, tais seremos também por obra, estando presentes.
12 For wee dare not make our selues of the nomber, or to compare our selues to them, which praise themselues: but they vnderstand not that they measure themselues with themselues, and compare themselues with themselues.
12 Porque não ousamos classificar-nos, ou comparar-nos com alguns, que se louvam a si mesmos; mas estes que se medem a si mesmos, e se comparam consigo mesmos, estão sem entendimento.
13 But we wil not reioyce of things, which are not within our measure, but according to the measure of the line, whereof God hath distributed vnto vs a measure to attaine euen vnto you.
13 Porém, não nos gloriaremos fora da medida, mas conforme a reta medida que Deus nos deu, para chegarmos até vós;
14 For we stretche not our selues beyonde our measure, as though wee had not attained vnto you: for euen to you also haue we come in preaching the Gospel of Christ,
14 Porque não nos estendemos além do que convém, como se não houvéssemos de chegar até vós, pois já chegamos também até vós no evangelho de Cristo,
15 Not boasting of things which are without our measure: that is, of other mens labours: and we hope, when your faith shall increase, to bee magnified by you according to our line aboundantly,
15 Não nos gloriando fora da medida nos trabalhos alheios; antes tendo esperança de que, crescendo a vossa fé, seremos abundantemente engrandecidos entre vós, conforme a nossa regra,
16 And to preache the Gospel in those regions which are beyonde you: not to reioyce in another mans line, that is, in the thinges that are prepared alreadie.
16 Para anunciar o evangelho nos lugares que estão além de vós e não em campo de outrem, para não nos gloriarmos no que estava já preparado.
17 But let him that reioyceth, reioyce in the Lord.
17 Aquele, porém, que se gloria, glorie-se no Senhor.
18 For hee that praiseth himselfe, is not alowed, but he whome the Lord praiseth.
18 Porque não é aprovado quem a si mesmo se louva, mas, sim, aquele a quem o Senhor louva.
