1 And Samuel spake vnto all Israel: and Israel went out against the Philistims to battel and pitched beside Eben-ezer: and the Philistims pitched in Aphek.
1 E a palavra de Samuel veio para todo o Israel. Ora, Israel saiu para lutar contra os filisteus, e acampou ao lado de Ebenézer; e os filisteus acamparam em Afeque.
2 And the Philistims put themselues in aray against Israel: and when they ioyned the battell, Israel was smitten downe before the Philistims: who slewe of the armie in the fielde about foure thousand men.
2 E os filisteus colocaram-se em ordem contra Israel; e, quando se engajaram na batalha, Israel foi ferido diante dos filisteus; e eles mataram cerca de quatro mil homens do exército no campo.
3 So when the people were come into the campe, the Elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the Lord smitten vs this day before ye Philistims? let vs bring the Arke of the couenant of the Lord out of Shiloh vnto vs, that when it commeth among vs, it may saue vs out of the hande of our enemies.
3 E, quando o povo chegou ao campo, os anciãos de Israel disseram: Por que o SENHOR nos feriu hoje diante dos filisteus? Removamos a arca do pacto do SENHOR de Siló até nós para que, quando vier para o meio de nós, possa nos salvar da mão dos nossos inimigos.
4 Then the people sent to Shiloh, and brought from thence the Arke of the couenant of the Lord of hostes, who dwelleth betweene the Cherubims: and there were the two sonnes of Eli, Hophni, and Phinehas, with the Arke of the couenant of God.
4 Assim, o povo enviou a Siló, para que trouxessem de lá a arca do pacto do SENHOR dos Exércitos, que habita no meio dos querubins; e os dois filhos de Eli, Hofni e Fineias, lá estavam com a arca do pacto de Deus.
5 And when the Arke of the couenant of the Lord came into the hoste, all Israel shouted a mightie shoute, so that the earth rang againe.
5 E, quando a arca do pacto do SENHOR veio para o acampamento, todo o Israel bradou com um grande brado, de modo que a terra voltou a ressoar.
6 And when the Philistims heard the noyse of the shoute, they said, What meaneth the sound of this mightie shoute in the host of the Ebrewes? and they vnderstoode, that the Arke of the Lord was come into the hoste.
6 E quando os filisteus ouviram o barulho do brado, disseram: O que significa o barulho deste grande brado no acampamento dos hebreus? E eles compreenderam que a arca do SENHOR havia chegado ao acampamento.
7 And the Philistims were afraide, and saide, God is come into the hoste: therefore saide they, Wo vnto vs: for it hath not bene so heretofore.
7 E os filisteus ficaram temerosos; pois diziam: Deus chegou ao acampamento. E diziam: Ai de nós! Pois até hoje não houve tal coisa.
8 Wo vnto vs, who shall deliuer vs out of the hande of these mightie Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wildernes.
8 Ai de nós! Quem nos livrará da mão destes Deuses poderosos? Estes são os Deuses que feriram os egípcios com todas as pragas no deserto.
9 Be strong and play the men, O Philistims, that ye be not seruants vnto the Ebrewes, as they haue serued you: be valiant therefore, and fight.
9 Sejam fortes, e comportai-vos como homens, Ó vós, filisteus, para que não sejais servos dos hebreus, como eles vos foram; comportai-vos como homens, e lutai.
10 And the Philistims fought, and Israel was smitten downe, and fled euery man into his tent: and there was an exceeding great slaughter: for there fell of Israel thirtie thousand footemen.
10 E os filisteus lutaram, e Israel foi ferido, e eles fugiram, cada homem para a sua tenda; e houve um massacre mui grande; pois, de Israel, tombaram trinta mil homens a pé.
11 And the Arke of God was taken, and the two sonnes of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas died.
11 E a arca do pacto foi tomada; e os dois filhos de Eli, Hofni e Fineias, foram mortos.
12 And there ranne a man of Beniamin out of the armie, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and earth vpon his head.
12 E ali fugiu do exército um homem de Benjamim, e chegou a Siló no mesmo dia, com as suas vestes rasgadas, e com terra sobre sua cabeça.
13 And when hee came, loe, Eli sate vpon a seate by the wayside, wayting: for his heart feared for the Arke of God and when the man came into the citie to tell it, all the citie cried out.
13 E quando chegou, eis que Eli estava assentado sobre um assento junto à beira do caminho, observando; pois o seu coração tremia pela arca de Deus. E quando o homem adentrou a cidade, e a ela anunciou, toda a cidade irrompeu em brados.
14 And when Eli heard the noyse of the crying, he sayd, What meaneth this noyse of the tumult? and the man came in hastily, and tolde Eli.
14 E, quando Eli ouviu o barulho do brado, disse: O que significa o barulho deste tumulto? E o homem entrou apressadamente, e contou a Eli.
15 (Nowe Eli was fourescore and eighteene yeere olde, and his eyes were dimme that hee could not see)
15 Ora, Eli tinha noventa e oito anos de idade; e os seus olhos estavam turvos, de modo que não conseguia enxergar.
16 And the man sayd vnto Eli, I came from the armie, and I fled this day out of the hoste: and he sayd, What thing is done, my sonne?
16 E o homem disse a Eli: Eu sou aquele que saiu do exército, e hoje fugi do exército. E ele disse: O que se fez lá, filho meu?
17 Then the messenger answered and sayd, Israel is fled before the Philistims, and there hath bene also a great slaughter among the people: and moreouer thy two sonnes, Hophni and Phinehas are dead, and the Arke of God is taken.
17 E o mensageiro respondeu, e disse: Israel fugiu de diante dos filisteus, e também houve um grande massacre no meio do povo, e também os teus dois filhos, Hofni e Fineias, estão mortos, e a arca de Deus foi tomada.
18 And when he had made mention of the Arke of God, Eli fell from his seate backward by the side of the gate, and his necke was broken, and he dyed: for he was an olde man and heauie: and he had iudged Israel fourtie yeeres.
18 E sucedeu, quando ele fez menção da arca de Deus, que ele caiu para trás do assento, ao lado do portão, e o seu pescoço quebrou, e ele morreu; pois era um homem velho e pesado. E ele havia julgado Israel por quarenta anos.
19 And his daughter in lawe Phinehas wife was with childe neere her trauell: and when she heard the report that the Arke of God was taken, and that her father in lawe and her husband were dead, she bowed her selfe, and trauailed: for her paines came vpon her.
19 E a sua nora, a esposa de Fineias, estava com criança, próxima do parto; e quando ela ouviu as notícias de que a arca de Deus fora tomada, e que o seu sogro e o seu marido estavam mortos, ela se curvou e entrou em trabalho de parto; pois suas dores lhe sobrevieram.
20 And about the time of her death, the women that stoode about her, sayd vnto her, Feare not: for thou hast borne a sonne: but she answered not, nor regarded it.
20 E, chegada a hora da sua morte, as mulheres que estavam de pé junto a ela lhe disseram: Não temas; pois deste à luz um filho. Porém, ela não respondeu, tampouco levou isto em conta.
21 And she named the childe Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel, because the Arke of God was taken, and because of her father in lawe and her husband.
21 E ela deu ao filho o nome de Icabô, dizendo: A glória partiu de Israel; porque a arca de Deus foi tomada, e por causa do seu sogro e do seu marido.
22 She sayde againe, The glory is departed from Israel: for the Arke of God is taken.
22 E ela disse: A glória partiu de Israel; pois a arca de Deus foi tomada.
