1 Now the Philistims fought against Israel, and the me of Israel fled away from ye Philistims, and they fell downe wounded in mount Gilboa.
1 Os filisteus lutaram contra os israelitas no monte Gilboa. Muitos israelitas foram mortos ali, e o resto fugiu.
2 And the Philistims preassed sore vpon Saul and his sonnes, and slewe Ionathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua Sauls sonnes.
2 Os filisteus cercaram Saul e os seus filhos e mataram Jônatas, Abinadabe e Malquisua, os filhos de Saul.
3 And when the battel went sore against Saul, the archers and bowmen hit him, and hee was sore wounded of the archers.
3 A luta estava feroz em volta de Saul. Ele foi atingido por flechas inimigas e ficou muito ferido.
4 Then saide Saul vnto his armour bearer, Drawe out thy sworde, and thrust mee through therewith, lest the vncircumcised come and thrust me through and mocke me: but his armour bearer would not, for hee was sore afraid. Therefore Saul tooke a sworde and fell vpon it.
4 Então disse ao rapaz que carregava as suas armas: — Tire a sua espada e me mate para que esses filisteus pagãos não caçoem de mim e me matem. Mas o rapaz estava muito apavorado e não quis fazer isso. Então Saul pegou a sua própria espada e se jogou sobre ela.
5 And when his armour bearer sawe that Saul was dead, he fell likewise vpon his sword, and dyed with him.
5 Quando viu que Saul estava morto, o rapaz também se jogou sobre a sua própria espada e morreu junto com ele.
6 So Saul dyed, and his three sonnes, and his armour bearer, and all his men that same day together.
6 E assim morreram naquele dia Saul, os seus três filhos, o rapaz e todos os soldados de Saul.
7 And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they of the other side Iorden saw that the men of Israel were put to flight, and that Saul and his sonnes were dead, then they left the cities, and ran away: and the Philistims came and dwelt in them.
7 Quando os israelitas que moravam no outro lado do vale de Jezreel e a leste do rio Jordão viram que o exército israelita havia fugido e que Saul e os seus filhos tinham sido mortos, abandonaram as suas cidades e fugiram. Então os filisteus foram e ocuparam aquelas cidades.
8 And on the morowe when the Philistims were come to spoyle them that were slaine, they founde Saul and his three sonnes lying in mount Gilboa,
8 Um dia depois da batalha, quando os filisteus voltaram lá para tirar dos mortos as coisas de valor, acharam os corpos de Saul e dos seus três filhos caídos no monte Gilboa.
9 And they cut off his head, and stripped him out of his armour, and sent into the land of ye Philistims on euery side, that they should publish it in the temple of their idoles, and among the people.
9 Então cortaram a cabeça de Saul e tiraram a sua armadura . Depois mandaram mensageiros com elas para a sua terra, para darem as boas notícias aos seus ídolos e ao povo.
10 And they layed vp his armour in the house of Ashtaroth, but they hanged vp his body on the wall of Beth-shan.
10 Eles puseram as armas de Saul no templo da deusa Astarote e pregaram o corpo dele na muralha da cidade de Bete-Sã.
11 When the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead heard, what the Philistims had done to Saul,
11 Quando o povo de Jabes, na região de Gileade, soube do que os filisteus haviam feito com Saul,
12 Then they arose (as many as were strong men) and went all night, and tooke the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sonnes, from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Iabesh, and burnt them there,
12 os seus moradores mais corajosos saíram e marcharam a noite inteira, até chegarem a Bete-Sã. Tiraram da muralha os corpos de Saul e dos seus três filhos, levaram de volta para Jabes e ali os queimaram.
13 And tooke their bones and buried them vnder a tree at Iabesh, and fasted seuen dayes.
13 Então pegaram os ossos e sepultaram na cidade, debaixo de uma árvore de tâmaras . E jejuaram sete dias.
