1 And Dauid said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: is it not better for me that I saue my selfe in the lande of the Philistims, and that Saul may haue no hope of me to seeke me any more in all the coastes of Israel, and so escape out of his hand?
1 Disse, porém, Davi consigo mesmo: Pode ser que algum dia venha eu a perecer nas mãos de Saul; nada há, pois, melhor para mim do que fugir para a terra dos filisteus; para que Saul perca de todo as esperanças e deixe de perseguir-me por todos os limites de Israel; assim, me livrarei da sua mão.
2 Dauid therefore arose, and he, and the sixe hundreth men that were with him, went vnto Achish the sonne of Maoch King of Gath.
2 Dispôs-se Davi e, com os seiscentos homens que com ele estavam, passou a Aquis, filho de Maoque, rei de Gate.
3 And Dauid dwelt with Achish at Gath, he, and his men, euery man with his housholde, Dauid with his two wiues, Ahinoam the Izreelite, and Abigail Nabals wife the Carmelite.
3 Habitou Davi com Aquis em Gate, ele e os seus homens, cada um com a sua família; Davi, com ambas as suas mulheres, Ainoã, a jezreelita, e Abigail, a viúva de Nabal, o carmelita.
4 And it was tolde Saul that Dauid was fled to Gath: so he sought no more for him.
4 Avisado Saul de que Davi tinha fugido para Gate, desistiu de o perseguir.
5 And Dauid saide vnto Achish, If I haue nowe founde peace in thine eyes, let them giue me a place in some other citie of the countrey, that I may dwell there: for why should thy seruant dwel in ye head citie of the kingdome with thee?
5 Disse Davi a Aquis: Se achei mercê na tua presença, dá-me lugar numa das cidades da terra, para que ali habite; por que há de habitar o teu servo contigo na cidade real?
6 Then Achish gaue him Ziklag that same day: therefore Ziklag pertaineth vnto the kings of Iudah vnto this day.
6 Então, lhe deu Aquis, naquele dia, a cidade de Ziclague. Pelo que Ziclague pertence aos reis de Judá, até ao dia de hoje.
7 And the time that Dauid dwelt in the countrey of the Philistims, was foure moneths and certaine dayes.
7 E todo o tempo que Davi permaneceu na terra dos filisteus foi um ano e quatro meses.
8 Then Dauid and his men went vp, and inuaded the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites: for they inhabited the lande from the beginning, from the way, as thou goest to Shur, euen vnto the lande of Egypt.
8 Subia Davi com os seus homens, e davam contra os gesuritas, os gersitas e os amalequitas; porque eram estes os moradores da terra desde Telã, na direção de Sur, até à terra do Egito.
9 And Dauid smote the lande, and left neither man nor woman aliue, and tooke sheepe, and oxen, and asses, and camels, and apparell, and returned and came to Achish.
9 Davi feria aquela terra, e não deixava com vida nem homem nem mulher, e tomava as ovelhas, e os bois, e os jumentos, e os camelos, e as vestes; voltava e vinha a Aquis.
10 And Achish said, Where haue ye bene a rouing this day? And Dauid answered, Against the South of Iudah, and against the South of the Ierahmeelites, and against the South of ye Kenites.
10 E perguntando Aquis: Contra quem deste hoje? Davi respondia: Contra o Sul de Judá, e o Sul dos jerameelitas, e o Sul dos queneus.
11 And Dauid saued neither man nor woman aliue, to bring them to Gath, saying, Lest they should tel on vs, and say, So did Dauid, and so will be his maner all the while that he dwelleth in the countrey of the Philistims.
11 Davi não deixava com vida nem homem nem mulher, para os trazer a Gate, pois dizia: Para que não nos denunciem, dizendo: Assim Davi o fazia. Este era o seu proceder por todos os dias que habitou na terra dos filisteus.
12 And Achish beleeued Dauid, saying, He hath made his people of Israel vtterly to abhorre him: therefore he shalbe my seruant for euer.
12 Aquis confiava em Davi, dizendo: Fez-se ele, por certo, aborrecível para com o seu povo em Israel; pelo que me será por servo para sempre.
