1 The Lord then saide vnto Samuel, Howe long wilt thou mourne for Saul, seeing I haue cast him away from reigning ouer Israel? fill thine horne with oyle and come, I will sende thee to Ishai the Bethlehemite: for I haue prouided mee a King among his sonnes.
1 O Senhor disse a Samuel: — Até quando você terá pena de Saul, se eu o rejeitei como rei de Israel? Encha um chifre de azeite e ponha-se a caminho; vou enviar você a Jessé, o belemita, porque escolhi um dos filhos dele para ser rei.
2 And Samuel sayde, Howe can I goe? for if Saul shall heare it, he will kill me. Then the Lord answered, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to doe sacrifice to the Lord.
2 Samuel respondeu: — Como posso fazer isso? Saul ficará sabendo e me matará. Então o — Leve um novilho e diga: “Vim para oferecer um sacrifício ao
3 And call Ishai to the sacrifice, and I will shewe thee what thou shalt doe, and thou shalt anoynt vnto me him whom I name vnto thee.
3 Convide Jessé para o sacrifício. Eu lhe mostrarei o que você deve fazer, e você ungirá para mim aquele que eu indicar.
4 So Samuel did that the Lord bade him, and came to Beth-lehem, and the Elders of the towne were astonied at his comming, and sayd, Commest thou peaceablie?
4 Samuel fez o que o Senhor tinha dito e foi a Belém. Os anciãos da cidade saíram ao encontro dele, tremendo, e perguntaram: — É de paz a sua vinda?
5 And he answeared, Yea: I am come to doe sacrifice vnto the Lord: sanctifie your selues, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Ishai and his sonnes, and called them to the sacrifice.
5 Samuel respondeu: — Sim, é de paz. Vim oferecer sacrifício ao Então ele consagrou Jessé e os filhos dele e os convidou para o sacrifício.
6 And when they were come, hee looked on Eliab, and saide, Surely the Lordes Anointed is before him.

7 But the Lord said vnto Samuel, Looke not on his countenance, nor on the height of his stature, because I haue refused him: for God seeth not as man seeth: for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord beholdeth the heart.
7 Porém o Senhor disse a Samuel: — Não olhe para a sua aparência nem para a sua altura, porque eu o rejeitei. Porque o
8 Then Ishai called Abinadab, and made him come before Samuel. And he saide, Neither hath the Lord chosen this.
8 Então Jessé chamou Abinadabe e o fez passar diante de Samuel, que disse: — Nem a este o
9 Then Ishai made Shammah come. And he said, Neither yet hath the Lord chosen him.
9 Então Jessé fez passar Samá. Porém Samuel disse: — Tampouco a este o
10 Againe Ishai made his seue sonnes to come before Samuel: and Samuel saide vnto Ishai, The Lord hath chosen none of these.
10 Assim Jessé fez passar os seus sete filhos diante de Samuel. Porém Samuel disse a Jessé: — O
11 Finally, Samuel said vnto Ishai, Are there no more children but these? And hee sayde, There remaineth yet a litle one behinde, that keepeth the sheepe. Then Samuel saide vnto Ishai, Sende and set him: for we will not sit downe, till he be come hither.
11 E perguntou a Jessé: — Esses são todos os seus filhos? Jessé respondeu: — Ainda falta um, o mais moço; ele está apascentando as ovelhas. Então Samuel disse a Jessé: — Mande chamá-lo, pois não nos sentaremos à mesa sem que ele venha.
12 And he sent, and brought him in: and he was ruddie, and of a good countenance, and comely visage. And the Lord saide, Arise, and anoynt him: for this is he.
12 Então mandou chamá-lo e o fez entrar. Davi era ruivo, de belos olhos e boa aparência. E o Senhor disse a Samuel: — Levante-se e unja-o, pois este é ele.
13 Then Samuel tooke the horne of oyle, and anoynted him in the middes of his brethren. And the Spirit of the Lord came vpon Dauid, from that day forwarde: then Samuel rose vp, and went to Ramah.
13 Samuel pegou o chifre do azeite e ungiu Davi no meio de seus irmãos. E, daquele dia em diante, o Espírito do Senhor se apossou de Davi. Então Samuel se levantou e foi para Ramá.
14 But the Spirite of the Lord departed from Saul, and an euill spirite sent of the Lord vexed him.
14 Depois que o Espírito do Senhor se retirou de Saul, um espírito mau, vindo da parte do Senhor , o atormentava.
15 And Sauls seruants said vnto him, Beholde nowe, the euill spirite of God vexeth thee.
15 Então os servos de Saul lhe disseram: — Eis que, agora, um espírito mau, enviado por Deus, está atormentando o senhor, ó rei.
16 Let our Lord therefore command thy seruants, that are before thee, to seeke a man that is a cunning plaier vpon the harpe: that when the euil spirit of God commeth vpon thee, hee may play with his hand, and thou maiest be eased.
16 Por isso, mande que estes seus servos, que estão em sua presença, busquem um homem que saiba tocar harpa. Assim, quando o espírito mau, enviado por Deus, vier sobre o senhor, o homem dedilhará a harpa e o senhor se sentirá melhor.
17 Saul then saide vnto his seruantes, Prouide me a man, I pray you, that can play well, and bring him to me.
17 E Saul disse aos seus servos: — Então procurem um homem que saiba tocar bem harpa e tragam-no para cá.
18 Then answered one of his seruauntes, and sayde, Beholde, I haue seene a sonne of Ishai, a Bethlehemite, that can plaie, and is strong, valiant and a man of warre and wise in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him.
18 Um dos moços disse: — Conheço um filho de Jessé, o belemita, que sabe tocar harpa. Ele é forte e valente, homem de guerra, fala com sensatez e tem boa aparência; e o
19 Wherefore Saul sent messengers vnto Ishai, and said, Send me Dauid thy sonne which is with the sheepe.
19 Saul enviou mensageiros a Jessé, dizendo: — Mande-me o seu filho Davi, aquele que está com as ovelhas.
20 And Ishai tooke an asse laden with breade and a flagon of wine and a kidde, and sent them by the hand of Dauid his sonne vnto Saul.
20 Então Jessé pegou um jumento e o carregou de pão, um odre de vinho e um cabrito, e enviou-os a Saul por meio de Davi, seu filho.
21 And Dauid came to Saul, and stoode before him: and he loued him verie well, and he was his armour bearer.
21 Assim Davi foi a Saul e esteve diante dele. Saul gostou muito dele e fez dele o seu escudeiro.
22 And Saul sent to Ishai, saying, Let Dauid nowe remaine with me: for he hath found fauour in my sight.
22 Saul mandou dizer a Jessé: — Deixe que Davi fique aqui, pois alcançou favor diante de mim.
23 And so when the euil spirite of God came vpon Saul, Dauid tooke an harpe and plaied with his hande, and Saul was refreshed, and was eased: for the euill spirit departed from him.
23 E sempre que o espírito mau, enviado por Deus, vinha sobre Saul, Davi pegava a harpa e a dedilhava. Então Saul sentia alívio e se achava melhor, e o espírito mau se retirava dele.
