1 Then Ben-hadad the King of Aram assembled all his armie, and two and thirtie Kings with him, with horses, and charets, and went vp and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
1 Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, reuniu todo o seu exército. Estavam com ele trinta e dois reis com seus cavalos e carros de guerra. Ele subiu, cercou Samaria e lutou contra ela.
2 And he sent messengers to Ahab King of Israel, into the citie,
2 Enviou mensageiros à cidade, a Acabe, rei de Israel,
3 And sayd vnto him, Thus sayth Ben-hadad, Thy siluer and thy golde is mine: also thy women, and thy fayre children are mine.
3 que lhe disseram: — Assim diz Ben-Hadade: “A sua prata e o seu ouro são meus; as suas mulheres e os seus melhores filhos também são meus.”
4 And the King of Israel answered, and sayd, My lord King, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I haue.
4 O rei de Israel respondeu: — Seja conforme a sua palavra, ó rei, meu senhor; eu sou seu, e tudo o que tenho é seu.
5 And when the messengers came againe, they said, Thus commandeth Ben-hadad, and saith, When I shall send vnto thee, and command, thou shalt deliuer me thy siluer and thy golde, and thy women, and thy children,
5 Os mensageiros voltaram a Acabe e disseram: — Assim diz Ben-Hadade: “Quando enviei mensageiros que dissessem: ‘A sua prata, o seu ouro, as suas mulheres e os seus filhos são meus’, era para que você os entregasse para mim.
6 Or els I will sende my seruants vnto thee by to morow this time: and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy seruants: and whatsoeuer is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall take it in their handes, and bring it away.
6 Se amanhã a estas horas eu tiver de enviar os meus servos até você, eles vasculharão o seu palácio e as casas dos seus oficiais e meterão as mãos em tudo o que você tem de precioso e o levarão.”
7 Then the King of Israel sent for all the Elders of the land, and sayd, Take heede, I pray you, and see how he seeketh mischiefe: for he sent vnto me for my wiues, and for my children, and for my siluer, and for my golde, and I denyed him not.
7 Então o rei de Israel chamou todos os anciãos da sua terra e lhes disse: — Como vocês podem notar e ver, este homem procura o mal. Mandou exigir as minhas mulheres, os meus filhos, a minha prata e o meu ouro, e não os neguei a ele.
8 And all the Elders, and all the people sayd to him, Hearken not vnto him, nor consent.
8 Todos os anciãos e todo o povo lhe disseram: — Não lhe dê ouvidos e não consinta.
9 Wherefore hee sayde vnto the messengers of Ben-hadad, Tell my lorde the King, All that thou didddest sende for to thy seruant at the first time, that I will doe, but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him an answere.
9 Então Acabe disse aos mensageiros de Ben-Hadade: — Digam ao rei, meu senhor: “Farei tudo o que você pediu a este seu servo na primeira vez, porém não posso fazer o que você está pedindo agora.” E os mensageiros se foram e deram esta resposta.
10 And Ben-hadad sent vnto him, and sayde, The gods do so to me and more also, if the dust of Samaria be ynough to all the people that follow me, for euery man an handfull.
10 Ben-Hadade tornou a enviar mensageiros, dizendo: — Que os deuses me castiguem, se o pó de Samaria bastar para encher as mãos de todo o povo que me segue.
11 And the King of Israel answered, and sayd, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth his harneis, boast himselfe, as he that putteth it off.
11 Porém o rei de Israel respondeu: — Digam ao rei Ben-Hadade: “Quem se veste para a batalha não deve se gabar como aquele que está se despindo depois da vitória.”
12 And when he heard that tidings, as he was with the Kings drinking in the pauilions, he sayd vnto his seruants, Bring forth your engines, and they set them against the citie.
12 Ben-Hadade ouviu esta resposta quando ele e os outros reis estavam bebendo nas tendas. Então ele disse aos seus servos: — Preparem-se para atacar. E eles se prepararam para atacar a cidade.
13 And beholde, there came a Prophet vnto Ahab King of Israel, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Hast thou seene all this great multitude? beholde, I will deliuer it into thine hande this day, that thou mayest knowe, that I am the Lord.
13 Eis que um profeta foi até Acabe, rei de Israel, e lhe disse: — Assim diz o
14 And Ahab sayd, By whome? And he sayde, Thus sayth the Lord, By the seruants of the princes of the prouinces. He sayde againe, Who shall order the battel? And he answered, Thou.
14 Acabe perguntou: — Por meio de quem se dará isto? Ele respondeu: — Assim diz o Acabe perguntou: — Quem começará a batalha? E o profeta respondeu: — Você!
15 Then he nombred the seruantes of the princes of the prouinces, and they were two hundreth, two and thirtie: and after them he nombred the whole people of all the children of Israel, euen seuen thousand.
15 Então Acabe contou os servos dos chefes das províncias, e eram duzentos e trinta e dois. Depois, contou todo o povo, todos os filhos de Israel, e eram sete mil.
16 And they went out at noone: but Ben-hadad did drinke till he was drunken in the tentes, both he and the Kings: for two and thirtie Kings helped him.
16 Saíram ao meio-dia. Ben-Hadade, porém, estava bebendo e embriagando-se nas tendas, ele e os reis, os trinta e dois reis que o ajudavam.
17 So the seruants of the princes of the prouinces went out first: and Ben-hadad sent out, and they shewed him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
17 Saíram primeiro os servos dos chefes das províncias. Ben-Hadade mandou observadores que lhe deram avisos, dizendo: — Uns homens estão saindo de Samaria.
18 And he sayde, Whether they be come out for peace, take them aliue: or whether they bee come out to fight, take them yet aliue.
18 Ele disse: — Se vieram tratar de paz, prendam-nos vivos; se vieram lutar, prendam-nos vivos também.
19 So they came out of the citie, to wit, the seruants of the princes of the prouinces, and the hoste which followed them.
19 Os servos dos chefes das províncias e o exército que os seguia saíram da cidade,
20 And they slew euery one his enemie: and the Aramites fled, and Israel pursued them: but Ben-hadad ye King of Aram escaped on an horse with his horsemen.
20 e cada um matou o homem contra quem lutava. Os sírios fugiram, e Israel os perseguiu. Porém Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, escapou a cavalo, com alguns cavaleiros.
21 And the King of Israel went out, and smote the horses and charets, and with a great slaughter slew he the Aramites.
21 O rei de Israel saiu e destroçou os cavalos e os carros de guerra dos sírios, impondo-lhes grande derrota.
22 (For there had come a Prophet to the King of Israel, and had sayd vnto him, Goe, be of good courage, and consider, and take heede what thou doest: for when the yeere is gone about, the King of Aram wil come vp against thee)
22 Então o profeta foi até o rei de Israel e lhe disse: — Vá, seja forte, considere e veja o que vai fazer, porque daqui a um ano o rei da Síria voltará a atacar.
23 Then the seruants of the King of Aram said vnto him, Their gods are gods of the moutaines, and therefore they ouercame vs: but let vs fight against them in the playne, and doubtlesse we shall ouercome them.
23 Os servos do rei da Síria lhe disseram: — Os deuses deles são deuses dos montes, e por isso eles foram mais fortes do que nós. Mas vamos lutar contra eles na planície, e, por certo, seremos mais fortes do que eles.
24 And this doe, Take the Kings away, euery one out of his place, and place captaines for them.
24 Portanto, faça o seguinte: tire os reis, cada um do seu lugar, e substitua-os por capitães,
25 And nomber thy selfe an armie, like the armie that thou hast lost, with such horses, and such charets, and we wil fight against them in the plaine, and doubtlesse we shall ouercome them: and he hearkened vnto their voyce, and did so.
25 e forme outro exército igual em número ao que você perdeu, com outros tantos cavalos e outros tantos carros de guerra. E vamos lutar contra eles na planície e, por certo, seremos mais fortes do que eles. O rei deu ouvidos ao que disseram e assim o fez.
26 And after the yeere was gone about, Ben-hadad nombred the Aramites, and went vp to Aphek to fight against Israel.
26 Decorrido um ano, Ben-Hadade convocou os sírios e subiu a Afeca para lutar contra Israel.
27 And the children of Israel were nombred, and were all assembled and went against them, and the children of Israel pitched before them, like two litle flockes of kiddes: but the Aramites filled the countrey.
27 Também os filhos de Israel foram reunidos para a batalha. Eles foram providos de mantimentos e marcharam contra os sírios. Os filhos de Israel acamparam de frente para eles, como dois pequenos rebanhos de cabras, mas os sírios enchiam a terra.
28 And there came a man of God, and spake vnto the King of Israel, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Because the Aramites haue sayd, The Lord is the God of the mountaines, and not God of the valleis, therefore will I deliuer all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
28 Um homem de Deus se aproximou e foi falar com o rei de Israel, dizendo: — Assim diz o
29 And they pitched one ouer against the other seuen dayes, and in the seuenth day the battel was ioyned: and the children of Israel slew of the Aramites an hundreth thousand footemen in one day.
29 Sete dias estiveram acampados uns em frente dos outros. No sétimo dia, travou-se a batalha, e os filhos de Israel, num só dia, mataram dos sírios cem mil soldados da infantaria.
30 But the rest fled to Aphek into the citie: and there fel a wall vpon seuen and twentie thousand men that were left: and Ben-hadad fled into the citie, and came into a secret chamber.
30 Os restantes fugiram para Afeca e entraram na cidade, mas a muralha da cidade caiu sobre os vinte e sete mil homens que restaram. Ben-Hadade fugiu, veio à cidade e se escondia de câmara em câmara.
31 And his seruants sayd vnto him, Beholde nowe, we haue heard say that the Kings of the house of Israel are mercifull Kings: we pray thee, let vs put sacke cloth about our loynes, and ropes about our heads, and goe out to the King of Israel: it may be that he will saue thy life.
31 Então os seus servos lhe disseram: — Eis que temos ouvido que os reis da casa de Israel são reis clementes. Por isso, ponhamos panos de saco sobre os lombos e cordas ao redor da cabeça e vamos até o rei de Israel; pode ser que ele lhe poupe a vida.
32 Then they gyrded sackecloth about their loynes, and put ropes about their heads, and came to the King of Israel, and sayd, Thy seruant Ben-hadad sayth, I pray thee, let me liue: and he sayd, Is he yet aliue? he is my brother.
32 Então se cingiram com pano de saco pelos lombos, puseram cordas ao redor da cabeça e foram falar com o rei de Israel. Disseram: — O seu servo Ben-Hadade manda dizer: “Poupe-me a vida.” Acabe respondeu: — Então ele ainda está vivo? Ele é meu irmão.
33 Now the men tooke diliget heede, if they could catch any thing of him, and made haste, and sayd, Thy brother Ben-hadad. And he sayd, Go, bring him. So Ben-hadad came out vnto him, and he caused him to come vp vnto the chariot.
33 Aqueles homens tomaram isto como um bom sinal, logo se aproveitaram dessa palavra e disseram: — Sim, o seu irmão Ben-Hadade! O rei disse: — Vão e tragam-no aqui. Então Ben-Hadade saiu para se encontrar com Acabe, e este o fez subir na sua carruagem.
34 And Ben-hadad sayd vnto him, The cities, which my father tooke from thy father, I wil restore, and thou shalt make streetes for thee in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will let thee goe with this couenant. So he made a couenant with him, and let him goe.
34 Ben-Hadade lhe disse: — Vou restituir as cidades que o meu pai tomou do seu pai. Você poderá vender os seus produtos em Damasco, como o meu pai fez em Samaria. E Acabe respondeu: — Com esta aliança, deixarei que você fique livre. Então Acabe fez uma aliança com ele e o deixou ir embora.
35 Then a certaine man of the children of the Prophets sayd vnto his neighbour by the comandement of the Lord, Smite me, I pray thee. But the man refused to smite him.
35 Então, por ordem do Senhor , um dos discípulos dos profetas disse ao seu companheiro: — Por favor, me esmurre. Mas o homem se recusou a fazê-lo,
36 Then sayd he vnto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voyce of the Lord, beholde, as soone as thou art departed from me, a lyon shall slay thee. So when he was departed from him, a lyon found him and slew him.
36 e por isso o discípulo dos profetas lhe disse: — Visto que você não obedeceu à voz do Quando ele se afastou, um leão o encontrou e o matou.
37 Then he founde another man, and sayde, Smite mee, I pray thee. And the man smote him, and in smiting wounded him.
37 Então o profeta encontrou outro homem e lhe disse: — Por favor, me esmurre. Ele o esmurrou e o feriu.
38 So the Prophet departed, and wayted for the King by the way, and disguised himselfe with ashes vpon his face.
38 Então o profeta partiu e ficou esperando o rei no caminho, disfarçado com uma venda sobre os olhos.
39 And when the King came by, he cried vnto the King, and said, Thy seruant went into the middes of the battel: and beholde, there went away a man, whom another man brought vnto me, and sayd, Keepe this man: if he be lost, and want, thy life shall go for his life, or els thou shalt pay a talent of siluer.
39 Quando o rei ia passando, o profeta gritou: — Este seu servo estava saindo do meio da batalha, quando um companheiro se voltou e me trouxe um homem, dizendo: “Vigie este homem. Se ele escapar, será a sua vida pela vida dele ou você pagará trinta e quatro quilos de prata.”
40 And as thy seruant had here and there to do, he was gone: And the King of Israel said vnto him, So shall thy iudgement be: thou hast giuen sentence.
40 Enquanto este seu servo estava ocupado daqui e dali, o homem se foi. O rei de Israel respondeu: — Esta é a sua sentença. Você mesmo a pronunciou.
41 And hee hasted, and tooke the ashes away from his face: and the King of Israel knewe him that he was of the Prophets:
41 Então ele se apressou e tirou a venda dos olhos, e o rei de Israel reconheceu que era um dos profetas.
42 And he said vnto him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast let goe out of thine handes a man whom I appoynted to dye, thy life shall goe for his life, and thy people for his people.
42 E o profeta disse ao rei: — Assim diz o
43 And the King of Israel went to his house heauie and in displeasure, and came to Samaria.
43 Então o rei de Israel se dirigiu à sua casa, aborrecido e indignado, e chegou a Samaria.
