Atos 19

1 AND while Apolu was in Kurinthos, Paulos itinerated through the upper countries unto Ephesos; and he asked those disciples whom he found there,
1 Enquanto Apolo estava na cidade de Corinto, Paulo viajou pelo interior da província da Ásia e chegou a Éfeso. Ali encontrou alguns cristãos
2 Have you received the Spirit of Holiness from that you believed? They answered and said to him, It hath not been heard by us whether there be the Spirit.
2 e perguntou: — Quando vocês creram, vocês receberam o Espírito Santo? Eles responderam: — Nós nem mesmo sabíamos que existe o Espírito Santo.
3 He saith to them, And into what were you baptized? They said, Into the baptism of Juhanon.
3 — Então que tipo de batismo vocês receberam? — perguntou Paulo. — O batismo de João Batista! — responderam.
4 Paulos saith to them, Juhanon baptized the people with the baptism of repentance, saying that they should believe in him who was coming after him, who is Jeshu Meshiha.
4 Então Paulo disse: — João batizava aqueles que se arrependiam dos seus pecados. E também dizia ao povo de Israel que eles deviam crer naquele que havia de vir depois dele, isto é, em Jesus.
5 And when they heard these (words), they were baptized in the name of our Lord Jeshu Meshiha.
5 Depois de ouvirem isso, aqueles homens foram batizados em nome do Senhor Jesus.
6 And Paulos laid on them the hand, and the Spirit of Holiness came upon them, and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
6 Aí Paulo pôs as mãos sobre eles, e o Espírito Santo veio sobre eles. Então começaram a falar em línguas estranhas e a anunciar também a mensagem de Deus.
7 But all the men were twelve.
7 Esses homens eram mais ou menos doze.
8 And Paulos entered the synagogue, and discoursed boldly three months, and persuaded concerning the kingdom of Aloha.
8 Durante três meses Paulo foi à sinagoga e falou com coragem ao povo. Ele conversava com eles e tentava convencê-los a respeito do Reino de Deus .
9 And men of them were obdurate, and contended, and reviled the way of Aloha, before the assembly of the people. Then Paulos removed and separated from them the disciples, and every day discoursed with them in the school of a man whose name was Tyranos.
9 Mas alguns eram teimosos, não acreditavam e, em frente de todos, ainda falavam mal do Caminho do Senhor . Então Paulo abandonou a sinagoga, levando os cristãos consigo, e começou a falar diariamente na escola de um homem chamado Tirano.
10 And this was done two years, until all who dwelt in Asia, Jihudoyee and Aramoyee, had heard the word of the Lord.
10 Ele fez isso durante dois anos, até que todos os moradores da província da Ásia, tanto os judeus como os não judeus, ouviram a mensagem do Senhor.
11 And great power-works wrought Aloha by the hand of Paulos;
11 Deus fazia milagres extraordinários por meio de Paulo,
12 so that they brought even from the garments that were upon his body napkins or wrappings, and laid them upon the sick, and the diseases went from them; and demons also went forth.
12 tanto que as pessoas pegavam lenços e aventais que ele usava e os levavam para os doentes tocarem. E, quando estes tocavam neles, ficavam curados; e de outras pessoas saíam os espíritos maus.
13 BUT men, Jihudoyee, also, who went about and adjured demons, willed to adjure in the name of our Lord Jeshu over those who had unclean spirits, saying, We adjure you in the name of Jeshu whom Paulos preacheth.
13 Alguns judeus que andavam de um lugar para outro, expulsando espíritos maus, quiseram usar também o nome do Senhor Jesus para expulsar os espíritos maus, dizendo a eles: — Pelo poder do nome de Jesus, o mesmo que Paulo anuncia, eu mando que vocês saiam!
14 There were seven sons of a man, a certain Jihudoya, chief of the priests, whose name was Skeva, who did this.
14 Os homens que faziam isso eram os sete filhos de um judeu chamado Ceva, que era Grande Sacerdote .
15 And that evil demon answered and said to them, Jeshu I acknowledge, and Paulos I know; but who are you?
15 Mas certa vez um espírito mau disse a eles: — Eu conheço Jesus e sei quem é Paulo. Mas vocês, quem são?
16 And the man in whom was the evil spirit sprang upon them, and was strong against them, and threw them, and they, naked and wounded, fled from that house.
16 Então o homem que estava dominado pelo espírito mau os atacou e bateu neles com tanta violência, que eles fugiram daquela casa feridos e com as roupas rasgadas.
17 And this was known to all the Jihudoyee and Aramoyee who dwelt in Ephesos: and fear fell upon them all, and the name of our Lord Jeshu Meshiha was exalted.
17 E todos os que moravam em Éfeso, judeus e não judeus, souberam disso. Eles ficaram com muito medo, e o nome do Senhor Jesus se tornou mais respeitado ainda.
18 And many of those who believed came and acknowledged their sins, and confessed whatever they had done.
18 Então muitos dos que creram vinham e confessavam publicamente as coisas más que haviam feito.
19 Many also of the magicians collected their writings and brought and burned them before all men; and they reckoned the price of them, and it ascended to silver five myriads.
19 E muitos daqueles que praticavam feitiçaria ajuntaram os seus livros e os trouxeram para queimar diante de todos. Quando calcularam o preço dos livros queimados, o total chegou a cinquenta mil moedas de prata .
20 And thus with great power prevailed and increased the faith of Aloha.
20 Assim, de maneira poderosa, a mensagem do Senhor era anunciada e se espalhava cada vez mais.
21 But when these were fulfilled, Paulos set in his mind to itinerate throughout all Makedunia and Akaia, and to go into Urishlem. And he said, When I shall have gone thither, it behoveth me Ruma also to see.
21 Depois desses acontecimentos, Paulo resolveu passar pelas províncias da Macedônia e da Acaia e ir até Jerusalém. Ele dizia: — Depois que eu visitar Jerusalém, preciso ir a Roma.
22 And he sent two men of those who ministered to him to Makedunia, Timotheos and Aristos; but he remained a time in Asia.
22 Então Paulo enviou para a Macedônia dois dos seus ajudantes, Timóteo e Erasto, mas ele ficou mais algum tempo na província da Ásia.
23 BUT there was made at that time a great tumult on account of the way of Aloha.
23 Foi nessa ocasião que houve na cidade de Éfeso uma grande desordem por causa do Caminho do Senhor .
24 For there was a certain worker of silver there whose name was Dimitrios, who made shrines of silver of Artemis, and he produced for the sons of his art great gains.
24 Um ourives chamado Demétrio fazia pequenos modelos de prata do templo da deusa Diana, e o seu negócio dava muito lucro aos que trabalhavam com ele.
25 This (man) assembled all the sons of his art and those who wrought with them, and said to them, Men, you know that all our merchandise is from this work;
25 Então ele chamou estes e outros da mesma profissão e disse: — Meus amigos, vocês sabem que a nossa riqueza vem deste nosso ofício.
26 and you also hear and see, that not only the sons of Ephesos, but also many of all Asia, this Paulos persuadeth, and hath perverted them, saying, that there be no gods which by the hands of men are made.
26 Vocês mesmos podem ver e ouvir o que esse tal de Paulo está fazendo. Ele afirma que os deuses feitos por mãos humanas não são deuses de verdade. E está conseguindo convencer muita gente, tanto daqui como de quase toda a província da Ásia.
27 And not only is this business defamed and brought to an end, but also the temple of Artemis the great goddess is reputed as nothing, and she also, the goddess of all Asia, and (whom) all the nations worship, is despised.
27 Assim nós estamos correndo o perigo de ver o povo rejeitar o nosso negócio. E não é só isso. Existe o perigo de o templo da grande deusa Diana não ficar valendo mais nada e também de ser destruída a grandeza dessa deusa adorada por todos na Ásia e no mundo inteiro.
28 And when they heard these (words) they were filled with wrath; and they cried, and said, Great is Artemis of the Ephesoyee.
28 Quando a multidão ouviu isso, ficou furiosa e começou a gritar: — Viva a grande Diana de Éfeso!
29 And the whole city was perturbed, and they ran together and came to the theatre; and seizing, they led with them Gaios and Aristarkos, men of Makedunia, companions of Paulos.
29 E a confusão se espalhou por toda a cidade. A multidão agarrou Gaio e Aristarco, dois macedônios que viajavam com Paulo, e os arrastou até o teatro.
30 AND Paulos willed to enter the theatre, and the disciples restrained him.
30 Paulo queria falar ao povo, mas os irmãos não deixaram.
31 And the chiefs of Asia, because they were his friends, sent, praying of him not to deliver himself by going into the theatre.
31 Alguns altos funcionários daquela província, que eram amigos de Paulo, mandaram a ele um recado, pedindo que não fosse ao teatro.
32 But the crowd who were in the theatre were greatly commoved, and others cried other things; for many of them knew not on what account they were assembled.
32 Naquela altura dos acontecimentos a multidão que se achava no teatro estava em completa desordem: uns gritavam uma coisa, e outros gritavam outra, pois a maioria nem sabia por que estava ali.
33 But the people of the Jihudoyee who were there appointed of them a man a Jihudoya, whose name was Aleksandros; and when he stood (forth) he signed that he would apologize to the people.
33 Algumas pessoas ficaram pensando que Alexandre era o culpado, pois os judeus o obrigaram a ir e ficar lá na frente. Aí Alexandre fez um sinal com a mão e tentou falar para se defender diante do povo.
34 And when they knew that he was a Jihudoya, all of them cried with one voice, as two hours, Great is Artemis of the Ephesoyee!
34 Mas, quando perceberam que ele era judeu, ficaram gritando todos juntos a mesma coisa durante duas horas: — Viva a grande Diana de Éfeso!
35 And the chief of the city stilled them, saying, Men, Ephesoyee, who is there of mankind who knoweth not that the city of the Ephesoyee is a votaress of the great Artemis, and of her image which descended from heaven?
35 Finalmente o secretário da prefeitura da cidade conseguiu acalmar o povo. Ele disse o seguinte: — Cidadãos de Éfeso! Todos sabem que a nossa cidade é a guardadora do templo da grande Diana e da pedra sagrada que caiu do céu.
36 Therefore, since no man can contradict this, it behoves you to be silent, and to do nothing in haste.
36 Ninguém pode negar isso. Assim fiquem calmos e não façam nada sem pensar bem.
37 Yet have you brought these men who have neither spoiled temples nor blasphemed our goddess.
37 Vocês trouxeram aqui estes homens, mas eles não assaltaram o templo, nem ofenderam a nossa deusa.
38 But if this Dimitrios and the sons of his craft have strife with any man, behold, the proconsul is in the city, (and) there are officers: let them go nigh and judge one with another.
38 Se Demétrio e os seus ajudantes têm alguma acusação contra alguém, eles podem apresentar suas acusações no tribunal, pois para isso há dias certos de reunião, e também existem os governadores.
39 And if you require other (procedure), in the place which is given by the law for an assembly it shall be resolved.
39 Porém, se vocês querem mais alguma coisa, isso será tratado na reunião do povo, convocada de acordo com a lei .
40 For now also are we standing in peril of being accused as disturbers, because we cannot make excuse for the concourse of this day, inasmuch as we have met uselessly, and have made a tumult without cause.
40 Pois corremos o risco de sermos acusados de revolta, por causa do que está acontecendo hoje. Não há motivo para toda esta confusão. E nós não poderíamos justificar tudo isso.
41 And when these he had said, he dissolved the assembly.
41 Depois de dizer essas palavras, ele terminou a reunião.
