GOD'S WORD (ENGGW) vs NTLH
1 Three days after Festus took over his duties in the province of Judea, he went from the city of Caesarea to Jerusalem.
1 Três dias depois de chegar àquela província , Festo saiu da cidade de Cesareia e foi até Jerusalém.
2 The chief priests and the other important Jewish leaders informed Festus about their charges against Paul. They were urging
2 Os chefes dos sacerdotes e os líderes judeus apresentaram lá as suas acusações contra Paulo e pediram a Festo
3 Festus to do them the favor of having Paul brought to Jerusalem. The Jews had a plan to ambush and kill Paul as he traveled to Jerusalem.
3 o favor de mandar trazer Paulo para Jerusalém. É que eles tinham combinado matar Paulo no caminho.
4 Festus replied that he would be returning to Caesarea soon and would keep Paul there.
4 Mas Festo respondeu: — Paulo está preso em Cesareia, e eu logo voltarei para lá.
5 He told them, “Have your authorities come to Caesarea with me and accuse him there if the man has done something wrong.”
5 Que os líderes de vocês me acompanhem até lá e o acusem, se é que ele fez algum mal.
6 Festus stayed in Jerusalem for eight or ten days at the most and then returned to Caesarea. The next day Festus took his place in court and summoned Paul.
6 Festo passou oito ou dez dias entre eles e depois voltou para Cesareia. No dia seguinte sentou-se no tribunal e mandou que trouxessem Paulo.
7 When Paul entered the room, the Jews who had come from Jerusalem surrounded him. They made a lot of serious accusations that they couldn’t prove.
7 Quando Paulo chegou, os judeus que tinham vindo de Jerusalém ficaram em volta dele e começaram a fazer muitas acusações graves, mas não conseguiram provar nada.
8 Paul defended himself by saying, “I haven’t broken any Jewish law or done anything against the temple or the emperor.”
8 Então Paulo se defendeu, dizendo: — Eu não fiz nada contra a
9 But Festus wanted to do the Jews a favor. So he asked Paul, “Are you willing to go to Jerusalem to be tried there on these charges with me as your judge?”
9 Festo, querendo agradar os judeus, perguntou a Paulo: — Você não quer ir a Jerusalém e ser julgado lá por mim a respeito destas coisas?
10 Paul said, “I am standing in the emperor’s court where I must be tried. I haven’t done anything wrong to the Jews, as you know very well.
10 Paulo respondeu: — Estou diante do tribunal do Imperador romano, e é aqui que devo ser julgado. Não fiz mal nenhum aos judeus, como o senhor sabe muito bem.
11 If I am guilty and have done something wrong for which I deserve the death penalty, I don’t reject the idea of dying. But if their accusations are untrue, no one can hand me over to them as a favor. I appeal my case to the emperor!”
11 Se não respeitei a lei ou se fiz alguma coisa que mereça a pena de morte, estou pronto para morrer. Mas, se o que dizem contra mim não é verdade, ninguém pode me entregar a eles. Portanto, apelo para o Imperador.
12 Festus discussed the appeal with his advisers and then replied to Paul, “You have appealed your case to the emperor, so you’ll go to the emperor!”
12 Então Festo, depois de conversar com os seus conselheiros, disse: — Já que você apelou para o Imperador, então irá para o Imperador.
13 Later King Agrippa and Bernice came to the city of Caesarea to welcome Festus.
13 Alguns dias depois o rei Agripa e Berenice, sua irmã, chegaram a Cesareia para cumprimentar Festo.
14 Since they were staying there for a number of days, Festus told the king about Paul’s case.
14 Quando já fazia alguns dias que eles estavam lá, Festo contou ao rei o caso de Paulo. Ele disse: — Está aqui um homem que Félix deixou como prisioneiro.
15 When I went to Jerusalem, the chief priests and the Jewish leaders brought me some information about him and asked me to condemn him.
15 Quando fui a Jerusalém, os chefes dos sacerdotes e os líderes dos judeus fizeram acusações contra ele e me pediram que o condenasse.
16 “I replied to them, ‘That’s not the Roman way of doing things. A person can’t be sentenced as a favor. Before he is sentenced, he must face his accusers and have a chance to defend himself against their accusation.’
16 Mas eu lhes disse que os romanos não costumam condenar ninguém sem primeiro colocar os acusadores diante do acusado, dando a este a oportunidade de se defender.
17 “So the Jewish leaders came to Caesarea with me. The next day I immediately convened court and summoned the man.
17 Por isso, quando eles vieram até aqui, não perdi tempo, e, logo no dia seguinte, sentei no tribunal, e mandei que trouxessem o homem.
18 When his accusers stood up, they didn’t accuse him of the crimes I was expecting.
18 Os seus inimigos chegaram, mas não o acusaram de nenhum crime grave como pensei que iam fazer.
19 They were disputing with him about their own religion and about some man named Jesus who had died. But Paul claimed that Jesus is alive.
19 A única acusação que tinham contra ele era a respeito da própria religião deles e também sobre um homem que já morreu, chamado Jesus. Paulo afirma que esse homem está vivo.
20 Their debate about these things left me puzzled. So I asked Paul if he would like to go to Jerusalem to have his case heard there.
20 Eu não sabia como conseguir informações sobre esse assunto. Por isso perguntei a Paulo se queria ir a Jerusalém para ser julgado lá a respeito dessas acusações.
21 But Paul appealed his case. He asked to be held in prison and to have His Majesty the Emperor decide his case. So I ordered him to be held in prison until I could send him to the emperor.”
21 Mas Paulo apelou para o Imperador e pediu para ficar preso até que o Imperador resolvesse o seu caso. Então mandei os guardas tomarem conta dele até que eu pudesse mandá-lo para o Imperador.
22 Agrippa told Festus, “I would like to hear the man.”
22 Aí Agripa disse a Festo: — Eu gostaria de ouvir esse homem. — Amanhã o senhor vai ouvi-lo! — respondeu Festo.
23 The next day Agrippa and Bernice entered the auditorium with a lot of fanfare. Roman army officers and the most important men of the city entered the auditorium with them. Festus gave the order, and Paul was brought into the auditorium.
23 No dia seguinte Agripa e Berenice chegaram com grande cerimônia e pompa. Entraram na sala de audiências com os chefes militares e os homens mais importantes da cidade. Festo mandou que trouxessem Paulo
24 Then Festus said, “King Agrippa and everyone who is present with us! All the Jews in Jerusalem and Caesarea have talked to me about this man you see in front of you. They shout that he must not be allowed to live any longer.
24 e disse: — Rei Agripa e todos os que estão aqui, vejam este homem! É contra ele que todos os judeus, tanto daqui como de Jerusalém, estão fazendo acusações diante de mim. Eles insistem em dizer que este homem deve morrer,
25 However, I don’t think that he has done anything to deserve the death penalty. But since he made an appeal to His Majesty the Emperor, I have decided to send him to Rome.
25 mas eu acho que ele não fez nada para ser condenado à morte. Como ele mesmo pediu para ser julgado pelo Imperador, resolvi atendê-lo.
26 But I don’t have anything reliable to write our emperor about him. So I have brought him to all of you, and especially to you, King Agrippa. Then I’ll have something to write after he is cross-examined.
26 Porém até agora não sei bem o que escrever a respeito dele ao Imperador. Então eu o trouxe aqui, diante dos senhores — e especialmente do senhor, rei Agripa — a fim de lhe fazer perguntas. Assim terei alguma coisa para escrever.
27 I find it ridiculous to send a prisoner to Rome when I can’t specify any charges against him.”
27 Pois acho absurdo mandar um prisioneiro sem explicar claramente as acusações que existem contra ele.
