GOD'S WORD (ENGGW) vs ARC
1 Israel went to fight against the Philistines and camped near Ebenezer while the Philistines camped at Aphek.
1 E veio a palavra de Samuel a todo o Israel; e Israel saiu ao encontro, à peleja, aos filisteus e se acampou junto a Ebenézer; e os filisteus se acamparam junto a Afeca.
2 The Philistines organized their troops to meet Israel in battle. As the battle spread, the Philistines defeated Israel and killed about 4,000 soldiers in the field.
2 E os filisteus se dispuseram em ordem de batalha, para sair de encontro a Israel; e, estendendo-se a peleja, Israel foi ferido diante dos filisteus, porque feriram na batalha, no campo, uns quatro mil homens.
3 When the troops came back to the camp, the leaders of Israel asked, “Why has the Lord used the Philistines to defeat us today? Let’s get the ark of the Lord’s promise from Shiloh so that he may be with us and save us from our enemies.”
3 E, tornando o povo ao arraial, disseram os anciãos de Israel: Por que nos feriu o Senhor , hoje, diante dos filisteus? Tragamos de Siló a arca do concerto do Senhor , e venha no meio de nós, para que nos livre da mão de nossos inimigos.
4 The troops sent some men who brought back the ark of the promise of the Lord of Armies—who is enthroned over the angels. Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, came along with God’s ark.
4 Enviou, pois, o povo a Siló, e trouxeram de lá a arca do concerto do Senhor dos Exércitos, que habita entre os querubins; e os dois filhos de Eli, Hofni e Fineias, estavam ali com a arca do concerto de Deus.
5 When the Lord’s ark came into the camp, all Israel shouted so loudly that the earth rang with echoes.
5 E sucedeu que, vindo a arca do concerto do Senhor ao arraial, todo o Israel jubilou com grande júbilo, até que a terra estremeceu.
6 As the Philistines heard the noise, they asked, “What’s ⌞all⌟ this shouting in the Hebrew camp?” The Philistines found out that the Lord’s ark had come into the camp.
6 E os filisteus, ouvindo a voz do júbilo, disseram: Que voz de tão grande júbilo é esta no arraial dos hebreus? Então, souberam que a arca do Senhor era vinda ao arraial.
7 Then they were frightened and said, “A god has come into ⌞their⌟ camp.” They also said, “Oh no! Nothing like this has ever happened before.
7 Pelo que os filisteus se atemorizaram, porque diziam: Deus veio ao arraial. E diziam mais: Ai de nós! Que tal nunca sucedeu antes.
8 We’re in trouble now! Who can save us from the power of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with every kind of plague in the desert.
8 Ai de nós! Quem nos livrará da mão destes grandiosos deuses? Estes são os deuses que feriram os egípcios com todas as pragas junto ao deserto.
9 Be strong, Philistines, and act like men, or else you will serve the Hebrews as they served you. Act like men and fight.”
9 Esforçai-vos e sede homens, ó filisteus, para que, porventura, não venhais a servir aos hebreus, como eles serviram a vós; sede, pois, homens e pelejai.
10 The Philistines fought and defeated Israel. Every ⌞Israelite⌟ soldier fled to his tent. It was a major defeat in which 30,000 Israelite foot soldiers died.
10 Então, pelejaram os filisteus, e Israel foi ferido; e fugiram, cada um para a sua tenda; e foi tão grande o estrago, que caíram de Israel trinta mil homens de pé.
11 The ark of God was captured. Both of Eli’s sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died.
11 E foi tomada a arca de Deus; e os dois filhos de Eli, Hofni e Fineias, morreram.
12 A man from the tribe of Benjamin ran from the front line of the battle. He went to Shiloh that day with his clothes torn and dirt on his head.
12 Então, correu da batalha um homem de Benjamim, e chegou no mesmo dia a Siló, e trazia as vestes rotas e terra sobre a cabeça.
13 When he arrived, Eli was sitting on a chair beside the road, watching. He was worried about the ark of God. The man went into the city to tell the news. The whole city cried out.
13 E, chegando ele, eis que Eli estava assentado sobre uma cadeira, vigiando ao pé do caminho; porquanto o seu coração estava tremendo pela arca de Deus; entrando, pois, aquele homem a anunciar isso na cidade, toda a cidade gritou.
14 Hearing the cry, Eli asked, “What is this commotion?” So the man went quickly to tell Eli the news.
14 E Eli, ouvindo a voz do grito, disse: Que voz de alvoroço é esta? Então, chegou aquele homem a grande pressa, e veio, e o anunciou a Eli.
15 (Eli was 98 years old, and his eyesight had failed so that he couldn’t see.)
15 E era Eli da idade de noventa e oito anos; e estavam os seus olhos tão escurecidos, que já não podia ver.
16 The man told Eli, “I’m the one who came from the battle. I fled from the front line today.”
16 E disse aquele homem a Eli: Eu sou o que venho da batalha, porque eu fugi, hoje, da batalha. E disse ele: Que coisa sucedeu, filho meu?
17 “Israel fled from the Philistines,” the messenger answered. “Our troops suffered heavy casualties. Your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, also are dead, and the ark of God has been captured.”
17 Então, respondeu o que trazia as novas e disse: Israel fugiu de diante dos filisteus, e houve também grande destroço entre o povo; e, além disso, também teus dois filhos, Hofni e Fineias, morreram, e a arca de Deus é tomada.
18 When the messenger mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell from his chair backwards toward the gate. He broke his neck, and he died. (The man was old and heavy.) He had judged Israel for 40 years.
18 E sucedeu que, fazendo ele menção da arca de Deus, Eli caiu da cadeira para trás, da banda da porta, e quebrou-se-lhe o pescoço, e morreu, porquanto o homem era velho e pesado; e tinha ele julgado a Israel quarenta anos.
19 His daughter-in-law, Phinehas’ wife, was pregnant. When she heard the news that the ark of God had been captured and her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she went into labor prematurely and gave birth to a son.
19 E, estando sua nora, a mulher de Fineias, grávida, e próxima ao parto, e ouvindo estas novas, de que a arca de Deus era tomada e de que seu sogro e seu marido morreram, encurvou-se e deu à luz; porquanto as dores lhe sobrevieram.
20 As she was dying, the women helping her said, “Don’t be afraid. You’ve given birth to a son.” But she didn’t answer or pay attention.
20 E, ao tempo em que ia morrendo, disseram as mulheres que estavam com ela: Não temas, pois tiveste um filho. Ela, porém, não respondeu, nem fez caso disso.
21 She called the boy Ichabod [No Glory], saying, “Israel’s glory is gone,” because the ark of God had been captured and because her father-in-law and her husband ⌞died⌟.
21 Mas chamou ao menino Icabô, dizendo: Foi-se a glória de Israel, porquanto a arca de Deus foi levada presa e por causa de seu sogro e de seu marido.
22 “Israel’s glory is gone because the ark of God has been captured,” she said.
22 E disse mais: De Israel a glória é levada presa, pois é tomada a arca de Deus.
