1 And in those dayes, as the nomber of ye disciples grewe, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians towards ye Hebrewes, because their widowes were neglected in the dayly ministring.
1 À medida que o número de discípulos crescia, surgiam murmúrios de descontentamento. Os judeus de fala grega se queixavam dos de fala hebraica, dizendo que suas viúvas estavam sendo negligenciadas na distribuição diária de alimento.
2 Then the twelue called the multitude of the disciples together, and sayd, It is not meete that we should leaue the worde of God to serue the tables.
2 Por isso, os Doze convocaram uma reunião com todos os discípulos e disseram: “Nós, apóstolos, devemos nos dedicar ao ensino da palavra de Deus, e não à distribuição de alimentos.
3 Wherefore brethren, looke ye out among you seuen men of honest report, and full of the holy Ghost, and of wisedome, which we may appoint to this busines.
3 Sendo assim, irmãos, escolham sete homens respeitados, cheios do Espírito e de sabedoria, e nós os encarregaremos desse serviço.
4 And we will giue our selues continually to prayer, and to the ministration of the worde.
4 Então nós nos dedicaremos à oração e ao ensino da palavra”.
5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Steuen a man full of fayth and of the holy Ghost, and Philippe, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a Proselyte of Antiochia,
5 A ideia agradou a todos, e escolheram Estêvão, homem cheio de fé e do Espírito Santo, e também Filipe, Prócoro, Nicanor, Timom, Pármenas e Nicolau de Antioquia, que antes havia se convertido ao judaísmo.
6 Which they set before the Apostles: and they prayed, and layed their hands on them.
6 Esses sete foram apresentados aos apóstolos, que oraram por eles e lhes impuseram as mãos.
7 And the worde of God increased, and the nomber of the disciples was multipled in Hierusalem greatly, and a great company of the Priests were obedient to the faith.
7 Assim, a mensagem de Deus continuou a se espalhar. O número de discípulos se multiplicava em Jerusalém, e muitos sacerdotes também se converteram.
8 Now Steuen full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
8 Estêvão, homem cheio de graça e poder, realizava milagres e sinais entre o povo.
9 Then there arose certaine of the Synagogue, which are called Libertines, and Cyrenians, and of Alexandria, and of them of Cilicia, and of Asia, and disputed with Steuen.
9 Um dia, porém, alguns homens da chamada Sinagoga dos Escravos Libertos começaram a discutir com ele. Eram judeus de Cirene, de Alexandria, da Cilícia e da província da Ásia.
10 But they were not able to resist the wisdome, and the Spirit by the which he spake.
10 Nenhum deles era capaz de resistir à sabedoria e ao Espírito pelo qual Estêvão falava.
11 Then they suborned men, which saide, We haue heard him speake blasphemous wordes against Moses, and God.
11 Então convenceram alguns homens a mentir a respeito dele, dizendo: “Ouvimos Estêvão blasfemar contra Moisés, e até contra Deus”.
12 Thus they mooued the people and the Elders, and the Scribes: and running vpon him, caught him, and brought him to the Councill,
12 Com isso, agitaram o povo, os líderes religiosos e os mestres da lei, e Estêvão foi preso e levado ao conselho dos líderes do povo.
13 And set forth false witnesses, which sayd, This man ceasseth not to speake blasphemous wordes against this holy place, and the Law.
13 As falsas testemunhas declararam: “Este homem vive falando contra o santo templo e a lei de Moisés.
14 For we haue heard him say, that this Iesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the ordinances, which Moses gaue vs.
14 Nós o ouvimos dizer que esse Jesus de Nazaré destruirá o templo e mudará os costumes que Moisés nos deixou”.
15 And as all that sate in the Councill, looked stedfastly on him, they saw his face as it had bene the face of an Angel.
15 Nesse momento, todos os membros do conselho olharam para Estêvão e viram que seu rosto parecia o rosto de um anjo.
