1 When Iesus was borne at Bethleem in Iury in the tyme of Herode the kynge. Beholde there came wyse me from the eest to Ierusalem saynge:
1 Jesus nasceu em Belém, na Judeia, durante o reinado de Herodes. Por esse tempo, alguns sábios das terras do Oriente chegaram a Jerusalém
2 Where is he that is borne kynge of the Iues? We have sene his starre in the eest and are come to worship him.
2 e perguntaram: “Onde está o recém-nascido rei dos judeus? Vimos sua estrela no Oriente e viemos adorá-lo”.
3 When Herode the kynge had herde thys he was troubled and all Ierusalem with hym
3 Ao ouvir isso, o rei Herodes ficou perturbado, e com ele todo o povo de Jerusalém.
4 and he gathered all the chefe Prestes and Scribes of the people and axed of them where Christ shulde be borne.
4 Reuniu os principais sacerdotes e os mestres da lei e lhes perguntou: “Onde nascerá o Cristo?”.
5 And they sayde vnto hym: at Bethlee in Iury. For thus it is written by the Prophet.
5 Eles responderam: “Em Belém da Judeia, pois assim escreveu o profeta:
6 And thou Bethleem in the londe of Iury art not the leest concernynge the princes of Iuda. For out of the shall come the captayne that shall govern my people Israhel.
6 ‘E você, Belém, na terra de Judá, não é a menor entre as principais cidades pois de você virá um governante que será o pastor do meu povo, Israel’”.
7 Then Herod prevely called the wyse men and dyligetly enquyred of them the tyme of the starre that appered
7 Então Herodes convocou os sábios em segredo e soube por eles o momento em que a estrela tinha aparecido.
8 and sent the to Bethleem saynge: Goo and searche dyligetly for the chylde. And when ye have founde hym bringe me worde that I maye come and worshippe hym also.
8 “Vão a Belém e procurem o menino com atenção”, disse ele. “Quando o encontrarem, voltem e digam-me, para que eu vá e também o adore.”
9 When they had heard the kynge they departed: and lo the starre which they sawe in the eeste went before them tyll it came and stode over the place where the chylde was.
9 Após a conversa com o rei, os sábios seguiram seu caminho, guiados pela estrela que tinham visto no Oriente. Ela ia adiante deles, até que parou acima do lugar onde o menino estava.
10 When they sawe the starre they were marvelously glad:
10 Quando viram a estrela, ficaram muito alegres.
11 and went into the house and found the chylde with Mary hys mother and kneled doune and worshipped hym and opened their treasures and offred vnto hym gyftes gold frackynsence and myrre.
11 Ao entrar na casa, viram o menino com Maria, sua mãe, e se prostraram e o adoraram. Então abriram seus tesouros e o presentearam com ouro, incenso e mirra.
12 And after they were warned of God in a dreame that they shuld not go ageyne to Herod they retourned into their awne countre another waye.
12 Quando chegou a hora de partir, retornaram para sua terra por outro caminho, pois haviam sido avisados em sonho para não voltar a Herodes.
13 When they were departed: beholde the angell of the Lorde appered to Ioseph in dreame sayinge: aryse and take the chylde and his mother and flye into Egypte and abyde there tyll I brynge the worde. For Herod will seke the chylde to destroye hym.
13 Depois que os sábios partiram, um anjo do Senhor apareceu a José em sonho. “Levante-se”, disse o anjo. “Fuja para o Egito com o menino e sua mãe. Fique lá até eu lhe dizer que volte, pois Herodes vai procurar o menino a fim de matá-lo.”
14 The he arose and toke the chylde and his mother by night and departed into Egypte
14 Naquela mesma noite, José se levantou e partiu com o menino e Maria, sua mãe, para o Egito,
15 and was there vnto the deeth of Herod to fulfill that which was spoken of the Lorde by the Prophet which sayeth out of Egypte haue I called my sonne.
15 onde ficaram até a morte de Herodes. Cumpriu-se, assim, o que o Senhor tinha dito por meio do profeta: “Do Egito chamei meu filho”.
16 Then Herod perceavynge that he was moocked of the wyse men was excedynge wroth and sent forth and slue all the chyldren that were in Bethleem and in all the costes there of as many as were two yere olde and vnder accordynge to the tyme which he had diligetly searched oute of the wyse men.
16 Quando Herodes se deu conta de que os sábios o haviam enganado, ficou furioso. Enviou soldados para matar todos os meninos de dois anos para baixo em Belém e seus arredores, tomando por base o relato dos sábios acerca da primeira aparição da estrela.
17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by the Prophet Ieremy sayinge:
17 Com isso, cumpriu-se o que foi dito por meio do profeta Jeremias:
18 On the hilles was a voyce herde mornynge wepynge and greate lamentacion: Rachel wepynge for her chyldren and wolde not be conforted because they were not.
18 “Ouviu-se um clamor em Ramá, choro e grande lamentação. Raquel chora por seus filhos e se recusa a ser consolada, pois eles já não existem”.
19 When Herode was deed: beholde an angell of the Lorde appered in a dreame to Ioseph in Egypte
19 Quando Herodes morreu, um anjo do Senhor apareceu em sonho a José, no Egito.
20 sayinge: arise and take the chylde and his mother and go into the londe of Israel. For they are deed which sought the chyldes life.
20 “Levante-se”, disse o anjo. “Leve o menino e a mãe de volta para a terra de Israel, pois já morreram os que tentavam matar o menino.”
21 Then he arose vp and toke the chylde and his mother and cam into the londe of Israhel.
21 Então José se levantou e se preparou para voltar à terra de Israel com o menino e sua mãe.
22 But when he hearde that Archelaus did raygne in Iury in the roume of his father Herode he was afrayde to goo thither. Not withstondynge after he was warned of god in a dreame he turned a syde into the parties of Galile
22 Soube, porém, que o novo governador da Judeia era Arquelau, filho de Herodes, e teve medo de ir para lá. Depois de ser avisado em sonho, partiu para a região da Galileia.
23 and wet and dwelt in a cite called Nazareth to fulfill that which was spoken by the Prophetes: he shalbe called a Nazarite
23 A família foi morar numa cidade chamada Nazaré, cumprindo-se, desse modo, o que os profetas haviam dito, que Jesus seria chamado nazareno.
