1 Simon Peter a seruaunt and an Apostle of Iesus Christ to them which have obtayned lyke precious fayth with vs in the rightewesnes that commeth of oure God and savioure Iesus Christ.
1 Eu, Simão Pedro, servo e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, escrevo esta carta a vocês que, por causa da bondade do nosso Deus e Salvador Jesus Cristo, receberam uma fé tão preciosa como a nossa.
2 Grace with you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Iesus oure Lorde.
2 Que a graça e a paz estejam com vocês e aumentem cada vez mais, por meio do conhecimento que vocês têm de Deus e de Jesus, o nosso Senhor!
3 Accordinge as his godly power hath geven vnto vs all thinges that pertayne vnto lyfe and godlynes thorow the knowledge of him that hath called vs by vertue and glory
3 O poder de Deus nos tem dado tudo o que precisamos para viver uma vida que agrada a ele, por meio do conhecimento que temos daquele que nos chamou para tomar parte na sua própria glória e bondade.
4 by the meanes whereof are geven vnto vs excellent and moste greate promises that by the helpe of them ye shuld be partakers of the godly nature in that ye flye the corrupcion of worldy lust.
4 Desse modo ele nos tem dado os maravilhosos e preciosos dons que prometeu. Ele fez isso para que, por meio desses dons, nós escapássemos da imoralidade que os maus desejos trouxeram a este mundo e pudéssemos tomar parte na sua natureza divina.
5 And hervnto geve all diligence: in youre fayth minister vertve and in vertue knowledge
5 Por isso mesmo façam todo o possível para juntar a bondade à fé que vocês têm. À bondade juntem o conhecimento
6 and in knowledge temperancy and in temrancy pacience in pacience godlynes
6 e ao conhecimento, o domínio próprio. Ao domínio próprio juntem a perseverança e à perseverança, a devoção a Deus.
7 in godlynes brotherly kyndnes in brotherly kyndnes love.
7 A essa devoção juntem a amizade cristã e à amizade cristã juntem o amor.
8 For yf these thinges be amonge you and are plenteous they wyll make you that ye nether shalbe ydle nor vnfrutefull in the knowledge of oure lorde Iesus Christ.
8 Pois são essas as qualidades que vocês precisam ter. Se vocês as tiverem e fizerem com que elas aumentem, serão cada vez mais ativos e produzirão muita coisa boa como resultado do conhecimento que vocês têm do nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.
9 But he that lacketh these thynges is blynde and gropeth for the waye with his honde and hath forgotten that he was pourged from his olde synnes.
9 Mas quem não tem essas coisas é como um cego ou como alguém que enxerga pouco e esqueceu que foi purificado dos seus pecados passados.
10 Wherfore brethren geve the moare diligence forto make youre callynge and eleccion sure. For yf ye do soche thynges ye shall never erre.
10 Portanto, meus irmãos, procurem ficar cada vez mais firmes na certeza de que Deus os chamou e escolheu. Se vocês fizerem isso, jamais abandonarão a fé
11 Ye and by this meanes an entrynge in shall be ministred vnto you aboundantly in to the everlastynge kyngdome of oure lorde and saveoure Iesus Christ.
11 e assim receberão todo o direito de entrar no Reino eterno do nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo.
12 Wherfore I will not be necgligent to put you allwayes in remembraunce of soche thinges though that ye knowe them youre selves and be also stablisshed in the present trueth.
12 Por isso, farei sempre com que vocês lembrem dessas coisas, embora já as conheçam e estejam firmes na verdade que receberam.
13 Notwithstodinge I thynke that mete (as longe as I am in this tabernacle) to stere you vp by puttynge you in remembraunce
13 Penso que, enquanto eu viver, é justo que faça com que vocês lembrem dessas coisas.
14 for as moch as I am sure howe that the tyme is at honde that I must put of my tabernacle even as oure lorde Iesus Christ hath shewed me.
14 Pois sei que logo terei de deixar este corpo mortal, como o nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo me disse claramente.
15 I will enfource therfore that on every syde ye myght have wherwith to stere vp the remembraunce of these thynges after my departynge.
15 Portanto, farei tudo o que puder para que, depois da minha morte, vocês lembrem sempre dessas coisas.
16 For we folowed not decevable fables when we openned vnto you the power and commynge of oure lorde Iesus Christ but with oure eyes we sawe his maieste:
16 Nós não estávamos contando coisas inventadas quando anunciamos a vocês a vinda poderosa do nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, pois com os nossos próprios olhos nós vimos a sua grandeza.
17 even then verely when he receaved of god the father honour and glory and when ther came soche a voyce to him from excellent glorie. This is my dere beloved sonne in whom I have delite.
17 Nós estávamos lá quando Deus, o Pai, lhe deu honra e glória . Ele ouviu a voz da Suprema Glória dizer: “Este é o meu Filho querido, que me dá muita alegria!”
18 This voyce we hearde when it came from heven beynge with him in the holy mounte.
18 Nós mesmos ouvimos essa voz que veio do céu quando estávamos com o Senhor Jesus no monte sagrado.
19 We have also a right sure worde of prophesye wher vnto yf ye take hede as vnto a lyght that shyneth in a darke place ye do wel vntill the daye dawne and the daye starre aryse in youre hertes.
19 Assim temos mais confiança ainda na mensagem anunciada pelos profetas . Vocês fazem bem em prestar atenção nessa mensagem. Pois ela é como uma luz que brilha em lugar escuro, até que o dia amanheça e a luz da estrela da manhã brilhe no coração de vocês.
20 So that ye fyrst knowe this. that no prophesye in the scripture hath eny private interpretacion.
20 Acima de tudo, porém, lembrem disto: ninguém pode explicar, por si mesmo, uma profecia das Escrituras Sagradas .
21 For the scripture came never by the will of man: but holy men of god spake as they were moved by the holy goost.
21 Pois nenhuma mensagem profética veio da vontade humana, mas as pessoas eram guiadas pelo Espírito Santo quando anunciavam a mensagem que vinha de Deus.
