1 Surelyit is not beneficial for me to boast, yet I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord.
1 Em verdade que não convém gloriar-me; mas passarei às visões e revelações do Senhor.
2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. (Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows.)
2 Conheço um homem em Cristo que, há catorze anos (se no corpo, não sei; se fora do corpo, não sei; Deus o sabe), foi arrebatado até ao terceiro céu.
3 And I know that this man (whether in the body orout of the body I do not know; God knows)
3 E sei que o tal homem (se no corpo, se fora do corpo, não sei; Deus o sabe)
4 was caught up to Paradise and heard words too sacred to be spoken, which man is not permitted to utter.
4 foi arrebatado ao paraíso e ouviu palavras inefáveis, de que ao homem não é lícito falar.
5 I will boast on behalf of that man, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except about my weaknesses.
5 De um assim me gloriarei eu, mas de mim mesmo não me gloriarei, senão nas minhas fraquezas.
6 But even if I wanted to boast, I would not be a fool, for I would be speaking the truth. Nevertheless, I refrain so that no one will think more of me than what he sees in me or hears fromme.
6 Porque, se quiser gloriar-me, não serei néscio, porque direi a verdade; mas deixo isso, para que ninguém cuide de mim mais do que em mim vê ou de mim ouve.
7 And to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations I received, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me so that I would not become conceited.
7 E, para que me não exaltasse pelas excelências das revelações, foi-me dado um espinho na carne, a saber, um mensageiro de Satanás, para me esbofetear, a fim de não me exaltar.
8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
8 Acerca do qual três vezes orei ao Senhor, para que se desviasse de mim.
9 But he said to me,Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
9 E disse-me: A minha graça te basta, porque o meu poder se aperfeiçoa na fraqueza. De boa vontade, pois, me gloriarei nas minhas fraquezas, para que em mim habite o poder de Cristo.
10 So I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, and in distresses for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
10 Pelo que sinto prazer nas fraquezas, nas injúrias, nas necessidades, nas perseguições, nas angústias, por amor de Cristo. Porque, quando estou fraco, então, sou forte.
11 I have become a foolby boasting; you compelled me to do it. I ought to have been commended by you, for in no way have I been inferior to these “super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.
11 Fui néscio em gloriar-me; vós me constrangestes; porque eu devia ser louvado por vós, visto que em nada fui inferior aos mais excelentes apóstolos, ainda que nada sou.
12 The signs of a true apostle were performed among you with great perseverance, with signs, wonders, and miracles.
12 Os sinais do meu apostolado foram manifestados entre vós, com toda a paciência, por sinais, prodígios e maravilhas.
13 In what way were you treated as inferior to the rest of the churches, except that I myself did not burden you? Forgive me this injustice!
13 Porque, em que tendes vós sido inferiores às outras igrejas, a não ser que eu mesmo vos não fui pesado? Perdoai-me este agravo.
14 Behold, I am ready to come to youa third time, and I will notburden you, for I do not seek what belongs to you, but you yourselves. For children are not obligated to save up for their parents, but parents for their children.
14 Eis aqui estou pronto para, pela terceira vez, ir ter convosco e não vos serei pesado; pois que não busco o que é vosso, mas, sim, a vós; porque não devem os filhos entesourar para os pais, mas os pais, para os filhos.
15 So I will most gladly spend and be entirely spent for the sake of yoursouls, even if the more I love you, the less I am loved.
15 Eu, de muito boa vontade, gastarei e me deixarei gastar pelas vossas almas, ainda que, amando-vos cada vez mais, seja menos amado.
16 Be that as it may, I did not burden you. But crafty fellow that I am, I apparently took you in by deceit!
16 Mas seja assim, eu não vos fui pesado; mas, sendo astuto, vos tomei com dolo.
17 Did I take advantage of you through any of the men I sent to you?
17 Porventura, aproveitei-me de vós por algum daqueles que vos enviei?
18 I urged Titus to visit you and sent our brother with him. Did Titus take advantage of you? Did we not walk in the same spirit and in the same footsteps?
18 Roguei a Tito e enviei com ele um irmão. Porventura, Tito se aproveitou de vós? Não andamos, porventura, no mesmo espírito, sobre as mesmas pisadas?
19 Do you still think that we are defending ourselves to you? In the sight of God we are speaking in Christ, and everything we do, beloved, is for your edification.
19 Cuidais que ainda nos desculpamos convosco? Falamos em Cristo perante Deus, e tudo isto, ó amados, para vossa edificação.
20 For I fear that when I come I may not find you as I wish, and that you may not find me as you wish. I fear that there may bequarrels,jealousies, fits of anger, selfish ambitions, insults, words of gossip, puffed up behaviors, and disorderly actions.
20 Porque receio que, quando chegar, vos não ache como eu quereria, e eu seja achado de vós como não quereríeis, e que de alguma maneira haja pendências, invejas, iras, porfias, detrações, mexericos, orgulhos, tumultos;
21 I fear that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I may have to mourn over many who have previously sinned and not repented of the impurity, fornication, and sensuality they have practiced.
21 que, quando for outra vez, o meu Deus me humilhe para convosco, e eu chore por muitos daqueles que dantes pecaram e não se arrependeram da imundícia, e prostituição, e desonestidade que cometeram.
