1 “For the leader of the music; upon the Shushan-Eduth; a psalm of David for instruction; when he was at strife with the Syrians of Mesopotamia, and the Syrians of Zoba; when Joab returned, and smote twelve thousand Edomites in the valley of Salt.” O God! thou hast forsaken us; thou hast broken us in pieces; Thou hast been angry! O revive us again!
1 Ao mestre de canto. Conforme: A lei é como o lírio. Poema didático de Davi, quando guerreou contra os sírios da Mesopotâmia e os sírios de Soba e quando Joab, voltando, derrotou doze mil edomitas no vale do Sal. Ó Deus, vós nos rejeitastes, rompestes nossas fileiras, estais irado; restabelecei-nos.
2 Thou hast made the land tremble; thou hast rent it; O heal its breaches, for it tottereth!
2 Fizestes nossa terra tremer e a fendestes; reparai suas brechas, pois ela vacila.
3 Thou hast caused thy people to see hard things; Thou hast made us drink the wine of reeling.
3 Impusestes duras provas ao vosso povo, fizestes-nos sorver um vinho atordoante.
4 Lift up a banner for them that fear thee, For the sake of thy faithfulness, that they may escape!
4 Mas aos que vos temem destes um estandarte, a fim de que das flechas escapassem.
5 That thy beloved may be delivered, Save with thy right hand, and answer me!
5 Para que vossos amigos fiquem livres, ajudai-nos com vossa destra, ouvi-nos.
6 God promiseth in his holiness; I will rejoice; I shall yet divide Shechem, And measure out the valley of Succoth.
6 Deus falou no seu santuário: Triunfarei, repartindo Siquém; medirei com o cordel o vale de Sucot.
7 Gilead shall be mine, and mine Manasseh; Ephraim shall be my helmet, And Judah my sceptre;
7 Minha é a terra de Galaad, minha a de Manassés; Efraim é o elmo de minha cabeça; Judá, o meu cetro;
8 Moab shall be my wash-bowl; Upon Edom shall I cast my shoe; I shall triumph over Philistia!
8 Moab é a bacia em que me lavo. Sobre Edom atirarei minhas sandálias, cantarei vitória sobre a Filistéia.
9 Who will bring me to the strong city? Who will lead me into Edom?
9 Quem me conduzirá à cidade fortificada? Quem me levará até Edom?
10 Wilt not thou, O God! who didst forsake us, And didst not go forth with our armies?
10 Quem, senão vós, ó Deus, que nos repelistes e já não saís à frente de nossas forças?
11 Give us thine aid in our distress, For vain is the help of man!
11 Dai-nos auxílio contra o inimigo, porque é vão qualquer socorro humano.
12 Through God we shall do valiantly; For he will tread down our enemies.
12 Com o auxílio de Deus faremos proezas, ele abaterá nossos inimigos.
