1 Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, And against them that dwell in the midst of mine adversaries, A destroying wind;
1 O Senhor Deus diz: — Eu farei com que venha um vento destruidor contra a Babilônia e o seu povo.
2 And I will send against Babylon winnowers, And they shall winnow her, and empty her land; For they shall come against her on every side.
2 Mandarei estrangeiros para destruírem o país como o vento que joga longe a palha. Quando chegar esse dia de destruição, eles atacarão de todos os lados e deixarão a terra deserta.
3 Against him that bendeth, let the archer bend his bow, And against him that lifteth himself up in his brigandine! And spare ye not her young men; Destroy ye utterly her whole host!
3 Não permitam que os soldados da Babilônia atirem as suas flechas ou vistam as suas couraças . Não deixem de matar os jovens! Destruam todo o exército!
4 Thus shall they fall down slain in the land of the Chaldaeans, And thrust through in her streets.
4 Eles serão feridos e morrerão nas ruas das suas cidades.
5 For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah abandoned of his God, of Jehovah of hosts; For their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.
5 Eu, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso, não abandonei Israel e Judá. Mas o povo da Babilônia tem pecado contra mim, o Santo Deus de Israel.
6 Flee ye out of Babylon, And save ye every man his life, That ye be not cut off in her punishment! For this is the time of Jehovah's vengeance; He will render to her a recompense.
6 Fujam da Babilônia! Salve-se quem puder! Não sejam mortos por causa do pecado da Babilônia. Agora, eu me vingarei dela e lhe darei o castigo que merece.
7 Babylon has been a golden cup in the hand of Jehovah, That made all the earth drunken; The nations have drunken of her wine, Therefore the nations are mad.
7 A Babilônia era na minha mão como um copo de ouro que fazia o mundo inteiro ficar bêbado. As nações beberam o vinho que havia nela e ficaram loucas.
8 Babylon is suddenly fallen, and broken; Howl ye over her; Bring ye balm for her wounds, If so be she may be healed.
8 De repente, a Babilônia caiu e ficou arrasada. Chorem por ela! Arranjem remédio para as suas feridas, e assim talvez ela seja curada.
9 “We would have healed Babylon, But she cannot be healed. Forsake her, and let us go every one to his own country! For her punishment reacheth to the heavens, And ascendeth even to the skies.”
9 Os estrangeiros que moravam lá disseram: “Quisemos ajudar a Babilônia, mas já era tarde demais. Vamos sair e voltar cada um para a sua pátria. Deus castigou com toda a sua força a Babilônia e a destruiu completamente.”
10 Jehovah hath brought forth our deliverance; Come ye, and let us declare in Zion The work of Jehovah our God.
10 O Senhor Deus diz: — O meu povo grita assim: “O
11 Make sharp the arrows; put on the shields! Jehovah hath roused up the spirit of the kings of the Medes; For his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it; For this is the vengeance of Jehovah, The vengeance for his temple.
11 O Senhor despertou o ânimo dos reis da Média porque ele quer destruir a Babilônia. É assim que ele vingará a destruição do seu Templo. Os oficiais ordenam: — Afiem as suas flechas! Aprontem os seus
12 Against the walls of Babylon set up a standard, Make strong the guard, appoint the watchmen, prepare the ambush! For Jehovah deviseth and doeth that which he spake Against the inhabitants of Babylon.
12 Deem o sinal para atacar as muralhas de Babilônia! Reforcem a guarda! Coloquem sentinelas! Ponham homens de tocaia! O
13 O thou that dwellest by great waters, That aboundest in treasures, Thine end is come; The measure of thy rapaciousness is full!
13 A Babilônia tem muitos rios e muitos tesouros, mas chegou a hora, e o fio da sua vida está cortado.
14 Jehovah of hosts hath sworn by himself, [[saying,]] Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillars, Who shall raise the war-shout against thee.
14 O Senhor Todo-Poderoso jurou pela sua própria vida que ia trazer muitos homens para atacarem a Babilônia. Eles chegarão como uma nuvem de gafanhotos e darão o grito de vitória.
15 He made the earth by his power, He established the world by his wisdom, And by his understanding he spread out the heavens.
15 Pelo seu poder, o Senhor Deus fez a terra; com a sua sabedoria, ele criou o mundo e, com a sua inteligência, estendeu o céu como uma barraca.
16 When he uttereth his voice there is an abundance of water in the heavens; He causeth clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth; He bringeth the wind from his storehouses.
16 Quando o Senhor dá ordem, as águas rugem no céu. Ele manda as nuvens subirem dos fins da terra. Ele faz o raio para a chuva e manda o vento sair dos seus depósitos.
17 Brutish is every man who hath not this knowledge; By his images is every founder put to shame; For his molten work is deceit; There is no breath in it.
17 Diante disso, todos os seres humanos são tolos e ignorantes; todos os que fabricam ídolos ficam desapontados porque fazem deuses falsos, que não têm vida.
18 They are vanity, deceptive work; In the time of their punishment shall they perish.
18 Esses ídolos não valem nada; são uma tapeação. Serão destruídos quando o
19 Not like them is he who is the portion of Jacob; He is the former of all things, And Israel is his allotted inheritance. Jehovah of hosts is his name.
19 O Deus de Jacó não é assim; foi ele quem fez todas as coisas e escolheu Israel para ser o seu povo. O seu nome é
20 Thou hast been to me my battle-hammer, My weapon of war. And with thee I broke in pieces the nations, And with thee I destroyed the kingdoms.
20 O Senhor Deus diz: “Babilônia, você foi o meu porrete de guerra, você foi as minhas armas de combate. Por meio de você, eu despedacei nações e acabei com reinos.
21 And with thee I broke in pieces the horse and his rider, And with thee I broke in pieces the chariot and its driver.
21 Por meio de você, esmaguei cavalos e cavaleiros e destruí carros de guerra e aqueles que os dirigiam.
22 With thee I broke in pieces man and woman, And with thee I broke in pieces the old and the young, And with thee I broke in pieces the young man and the maiden.
22 Por meio de você, matei homens e mulheres, despedacei velhos e moços e esmaguei homens e moças.
23 With thee I broke in pieces the shepherd and his flock, And with thee I broke in pieces the husbandman and his team; And with thee I broke in pieces prefects and governors.
23 Por meio de você, esmigalhei pastores e os seus rebanhos, despedacei lavradores e os seus bois de arado e esmaguei governadores e altas autoridades.”
24 But now before your eyes will I repay to Babylon, And to all the inhabitants of Chaldaea, All the evil which they have done in Zion, saith Jehovah.
24 O Senhor Deus diz: — Vocês verão como vou fazer com que a Babilônia e o seu povo paguem por todo o mal que fizeram a Jerusalém.
25 O thou destroying mountain, that destroyest the whole earth, Behold, I am against thee, saith Jehovah! And I will stretch out my hand against thee, And roll thee down from the rocks, And make thee a burnt mountain,
25 Babilônia, você é como uma montanha que destrói o mundo inteiro; mas eu, o Senhor , sou seu inimigo. Eu a pegarei e arrasarei; eu farei você virar cinza.
26 So that none shall take from thee a corner-stone, or a foundation-stone; But thou shalt be a perpetual desolation, saith Jehovah.
26 Nenhuma das suas pedras será usada para uma nova construção. Você vai virar para sempre um deserto. Sou eu, o Senhor , quem está falando.
27 Set ye up a standard in the land, Sound a trumpet among the nations; Enlist the nations against Babylon, Call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; Appoint captains against her, Cause the horses to come up like the bristled locusts!
27 — Deem o sinal de ataque! Toquem as cornetas para que os povos escutem! Preparem as nações para lutarem contra Babilônia! Digam aos reinos de Ararate, Mini e Asquenaz que ataquem. Indiquem um oficial para comandar o ataque. Tragam um grande número de cavalos, como se fossem uma nuvem de gafanhotos.
28 Enlist ye against her the nations, The kings of the Medes, and their prefects, And all their governors, And all the lands under their dominion,
28 Preparem os reis da Média, as suas autoridades, os seus oficiais e todos os países que eles controlam, para que eles guerreiem contra Babilônia.
29 So that the earth shall tremble and quake! For the purpose of Jehovah against Babylon is to be fulfilled, To make the land of Babylon a desolation, without an inhabitant.
29 A terra treme e se abala porque o Senhor está fazendo o que planejou. Ele fará Babilônia virar um deserto onde não mora ninguém.
30 The mighty men of Babylon refuse to fight; They remain in their stronghold; Their strength hath failed; They have become women; Her habitations are burned; Her bars are broken.
30 Os soldados babilônios pararam de lutar e ficam nas suas fortalezas. Perderam toda a coragem; parecem mulheres. Os portões da cidade estão quebrados, e as casas pegaram fogo.
31 Courier runs to meet courier, And messenger to meet messenger, To make known to the king of Babylon, That his city is taken from end to end;
31 Saem correndo mensageiros, um depois do outro, para contar ao rei da Babilônia que a cidade foi invadida de todos os lados.
32 That the passages are taken, That the reeds are burned with fire, And that the men of war are struck with terror.
32 O inimigo tomou as passagens do rio e pôs fogo nas fortalezas. Os soldados babilônios ficaram apavorados.
33 For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon shall be like a thrashing-floor when it is thrashed; Yet a little while, and the time of harvest for her shall come.
33 Dentro de pouco tempo, o inimigo os cortará e pisará como trigo no terreiro. O Senhor Todo-Poderoso, o Deus de Israel, está falando.
34 Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, hath devoured us; He hath made an end of us; He hath made us empty vessels; He hath swallowed us up like a dragon; He hath filled his maw with our delicacies; He hath cast us out.
34 O rei da Babilônia cortou Jerusalém em pedaços e a devorou. Ele esvaziou a cidade como um jarro; como um monstro, ele a engoliu. Ele tirou o que queria e jogou o resto fora.
35 “The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon!” Shall the inhabitant of Zion say; And, “My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldaeans!” shall Jerusalem say.
35 Diga o povo de Sião : “Que a Babilônia receba de volta a violência que nos fez!” E diga ainda o povo de Jerusalém: “Que a Babilônia seja castigada pelo que sofremos!”
36 Therefore, thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will maintain thy cause, And take vengeance for thee; And I will dry up her sea, And make her springs dry.
36 Assim diz o Senhor Deus ao povo de Jerusalém: — Defenderei a causa de vocês e os vingarei. Secarei a fonte de água da Babilônia e farei com que os seus rios sequem.
37 And Babylon shall become heaps, The dwelling-place of jackals, An astonishment and a hissing, Without an inhabitant.
37 Então Babilônia se tornará um montão de pedras, onde vivem animais ferozes. Será um espetáculo horrível. Ninguém vai morar lá, e todos os que olharem para Babilônia ficarão horrorizados por causa do que aconteceu com ela.
38 Together shall they roar like lions; They shall yell like lions' whelps.
38 Todos os babilônios rugem como leões e rosnam como leõezinhos.
39 In their heat I will prepare them a drink, And will make them drunk, so that they shall rejoice, And then sleep an everlasting sleep, And awake no more, saith Jehovah.
39 Será que eles são esganados? Farei uma festa para eles. Eu os embriagarei e alegrarei. Aí eles dormirão e nunca mais acordarão.
40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, Like rams with he-goats.
40 Eu os levarei para serem mortos, como se fossem cordeiros, bodes e carneiros. Eu, o Senhor , estou falando.
41 How is Sheshach taken! How is the praise of the whole earth fallen! How is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!
41 O Senhor Deus diz: — Babilônia, a cidade que era admirada em todo o mundo, foi tomada! Que espetáculo horrível ela se tornou para as outras nações!
42 The sea is come up over Babylon; With the roaring of its waves is she covered.
42 O mar rolou sobre Babilônia e a cobriu com ondas violentas.
43 Her cities have become a desolation, A dry land and a desert, A land in which no man dwelleth, And which no son of man passeth through.
43 As cidades estão arrasadas; são como um deserto sem água, onde ninguém mora e por onde ninguém passa.
44 I will punish Bel at Babylon, And bring forth from his mouth that which he hath swallowed, And the nations shall flow to him no more; Even the wall of Babylon shall fall.
44 Eu castigarei Bel, o deus da Babilônia, e farei com que ele devolva as coisas que roubou. As nações não o adorarão mais. — As muralhas de Babilônia caíram.
45 Go ye out of her, my people, And save ye every man his life From the fierce anger of Jehovah!
45 Povo de Israel, fuja de lá. Que cada um salve a sua vida do fogo da minha ira !
46 And let not your heart faint, And fear ye not on account of the rumors which are heard in the land, When in one year a rumor cometh, And after it in another year another rumor, And violence is in the land, Ruler against ruler.
46 Não percam a coragem, nem fiquem com medo das notícias que ouvirem. Cada ano, se espalha uma notícia diferente; são notícias de violência na terra e de um rei lutando contra outro.
47 Therefore, behold the days come When I will punish the graven images of Babylon, And her whole land shall be confounded; And all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.
47 E assim está chegando a hora em que vou castigar os ídolos da Babilônia. Os moradores da sua terra ficarão com vergonha por causa da derrota, e todos serão mortos.
48 Then the heavens shall shout over Babylon, And the earth and all that is therein; For out of the North come spoilers against her, saith Jehovah.
48 Quando Babilônia cair e for destruída pelo povo que vem do Norte, então tudo o que existe no céu e na terra cantará de alegria.
49 As Babylon caused the slain of Israel to fall, So at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the land.
49 Babilônia matou gente em todo o mundo e agora ela cairá porque matou tantos israelitas. Eu, o Senhor , estou falando.
50 Ye that have escaped her sword, go! Tarry not! Remember Jehovah afar off, And let Jerusalem come into your mind!
50 O Senhor diz: — Meu povo que está na Babilônia, vocês escaparam da morte! Agora andem! Não fiquem esperando! Embora estejam longe de casa, pensem em mim, o Deus de vocês, e lembrem de Jerusalém.
51 We have been confounded, because we have heard reproach; Shame hath covered our faces, For strangers have come into the sanctuaries of the house of Jehovah.
51 Vocês dizem: “Estamos envergonhados porque fomos insultados. Estamos humilhados porque os estrangeiros invadiram os lugares santos do Templo.”
52 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, When I will punish her graven images, And through all her land shall the wounded groan.
52 Por isso, digo que está chegando a hora em que vou castigar os ídolos da Babilônia; e os feridos vão gemer, espalhados pelo país inteiro.
53 Though Babylon should mount up to the heavens, And make inaccessible the height of her strength, Yet from me shall spoilers come upon her, saith Jehovah.
53 Mesmo que a Babilônia pudesse subir até o céu e construir ali uma fortaleza, ainda assim eu mandaria gente para destruí-la. Eu, o Senhor , estou falando.
54 Hark! a cry from Babylon, Of great destruction from the land of the Chaldaeans!
54 O Senhor Deus diz: “Escutem os gritos em Babilônia, gente chorando por causa da destruição que há no país.
55 For Jehovah destroyeth Babylon, And bringeth to silence her loud tumult; Their waves roar like great waters; Their tumultuous noise resounds.
55 Estou destruindo Babilônia e fazendo com que ela fique quieta. Como ondas violentas, os exércitos invadem e atacam com gritos barulhentos.
56 For the spoiler is come upon her, upon Babylon; And their mighty men are taken, And all their bows are broken; For Jehovah is a God of retribution; He will surely requite.
56 Vieram para destruir Babilônia; os seus soldados são presos, e os seus arcos e as suas flechas são quebrados. Eu, o eu vou tratar Babilônia do jeito que ela merece.
57 And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, Her prefects, and her governors, and her mighty men; And they shall sleep an everlasting sleep, And shall no more awake, saith the King, Whose name is Jehovah of hosts.
57 Farei com que os seus governantes fiquem bêbados e também os seus sábios, as suas autoridades e os seus soldados. Eles vão dormir e nunca mais vão acordar. Sou eu, o Rei, quem está falando. O meu nome é
58 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: The broad walls of Babylon shall be razed to the foundations, And her high gates shall be burned with fire; So that nations shall have labored for naught, And kingdoms have wearied themselves for fire.
58 As grossas muralhas de Babilônia serão completamente arrasadas, e os seus altos portões serão destruídos pelo fogo. Todo o trabalho dos povos não vale nada; os esforços das nações se acabam nas chamas.” O
59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah, the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah, the king of Judah, into Babylon, in the fourth year of his reign. This Seraiah was chief chamberlain.
59 Seraías, filho de Nerias e neto de Maaseias, era o oficial ajudante do rei Zedequias, de Judá. No quarto ano do reinado de Zedequias em Judá, Seraías estava de saída para a Babilônia, e então eu lhe dei algumas ordens.
60 And Jeremiah wrote all the evil that was to come upon Babylon in one book, all these words that are written concerning Babylon.
60 Escrevi num livro como a Babilônia ia ser destruída e todas as outras coisas que iam acontecer com ela.
61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, see that thou read all these words,
61 E disse a Seraías: — Quando você chegar à cidade de Babilônia, faça questão de ler em voz alta tudo o que está escrito aqui.
62 and say, O Jehovah, thou hast spoken against this place to destroy it, so that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall remain desolate forever!
62 Depois, ore assim: “Ó Senhor Deus, tu disseste que vais destruir este lugar, de tal modo que aqui não ficará nenhum ser vivo, nem pessoas nem animais. A cidade será como um deserto para sempre.”
63 And when thou hast made an end of reading this book, bind a stone upon it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates,
63 Quando você acabar de ler para o povo este livro, amarre uma pedra nele e jogue-o no rio Eufrates.
64 and say: So shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again from the evil which I bring upon her. And they shall utterly fail. Thus far the words of Jeremiah.
64 Então diga: “Isto é o que acontecerá com a Babilônia — ela vai afundar e nunca mais se levantará, por causa da destruição que Deus vai trazer sobre ela.” As palavras de Jeremias terminam aqui.
