1 The word of Jehovah came to me, saying:
1 E veio a mim a palavra do SENHOR, dizendo:
2 Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, Thus saith Jehovah: I remember the kindness shown thee in thy youth, The love with which I espoused thee, When thou wast led by me through the wilderness, Through a land that was not sown.
2 Vai, e clama aos ouvidos de Jerusalém, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor: Lembro-me de ti, da piedade da tua mocidade, e do amor do teu noivado, quando me seguias no deserto, numa terra que não se semeava.
3 Israel was a sacred thing to Jehovah, His first ripe fruit. All that devoured him were held guilty; Evil came upon them, saith Jehovah.
3 Então Israel era santidade para o Senhor, e as primícias da sua novidade; todos os que o devoravam eram tidos por culpados; o mal vinha sobre eles, diz o Senhor.
4 Hear ye the word of Jehovah, O house of Jacob, And all the families of the house of Israel!
4 Ouvi a palavra do Senhor, ó casa de Jacó, e todas as famílias da casa de Israel;
5 Thus saith Jehovah: What fault did your fathers find in me, That they went far from me, And walked after vanity, and practised folly?
5 Assim diz o Senhor: Que injustiça acharam vossos pais em mim, para se afastarem de mim, indo após a vaidade, e tornando-se levianos?
6 They said not, Where is Jehovah, Who brought us up from the land of Egypt, Who led us through the wilderness, Through a land of deserts and pits, Through a land of drought and deathlike gloom, Through a land which no man passed through, And where no man dwelt?
6 E não disseram: Onde está o Senhor, que nos fez subir da terra do Egito, que nos guiou através do deserto, por uma terra árida, e de covas, por uma terra de sequidão e sombra de morte, por uma terra pela qual ninguém transitava, e na qual não morava homem algum?
7 I brought you to a land of fruitful fields, To eat the fruit thereof, and the good thereof; But when ye had come in, ye defiled my land, And made my inheritance an abomination.
7 E eu vos introduzi numa terra fértil, para comerdes o seu fruto e o seu bem; mas quando nela entrastes contaminastes a minha terra, e da minha herança fizestes uma abominação.
8 The priests said not, Where is Jehovah? And the teachers of the law knew me not; The rulers also rebelled against me; The prophets prophesied in the name of Baal, And walked after things that could not profit.
8 Os sacerdotes não disseram: Onde está o Senhor? E os que tratavam da lei não me conheciam, e os pastores prevaricavam contra mim, e os profetas profetizavam por Baal, e andaram após o que é de nenhum proveito.
9 Therefore I will yet contend with you, saith Jehovah; Yea, with your children's children will I contend.
9 Portanto ainda contenderei convosco, diz o Senhor; e até com os filhos de vossos filhos contenderei.
10 For pass over to the islands of the Chittaeans, and see; Send ye to Kedar, and inform yourselves well; And see if such a thing hath been done!
10 Pois, passai às ilhas de Quitim, e vede; e enviai a Quedar, e atentai bem, e vede se jamais sucedeu coisa semelhante.
11 Hath any nation changed their gods, even those that are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which cannot profit.
11 Houve alguma nação que trocasse os seus deuses, ainda que não fossem deuses? Todavia o meu povo trocou a sua glória por aquilo que é de nenhum proveito.
12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this! Shudder, and be amazed! saith Jehovah.
12 Espantai-vos disto, ó céus, e horrorizai-vos! Ficai verdadeiramente desolados, diz o Senhor.
13 For my people have committed two evils; Me have they forsaken, the fountain of living water, And they have hewn out for themselves cisterns, Broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
13 Porque o meu povo fez duas maldades: a mim me deixaram, o manancial de águas vivas, e cavaram cisternas, cisternas rotas, que não retêm águas.
14 Is Israel a slave? Is he a home-born servant? Why then hath he become a spoil?
14 Acaso é Israel um servo? É ele um escravo nascido em casa? Por que, pois, veio a ser presa?
15 The young lions roar over him; They lift up their voice; They have made his land a desolation; His cities are burned so as to be without an inhabitant.
15 Os filhos de leão rugiram sobre ele, levantaram a sua voz; e fizeram da sua terra uma desolação; as suas cidades se queimaram, e ninguém habita nelas.
16 Even the sons of Noph and Tahpanhes have consumed the crown of thy head.
16 Até os filhos de Nofe e de Tafnes te quebraram o alto da cabeça.
17 Hath not this come upon thee, Because thou didst forsake Jehovah thy God, When he would have led thee in the way?
17 Porventura não fizeste isto a ti mesmo, deixando o Senhor teu Deus, no tempo em que ele te guiava pelo caminho?
18 And now what hast thou to do with the way of Egypt, To drink the waters of the Nile? Or what hast thou to do with the way of Assyria, To drink the waters of the Euphrates?
18 Agora, pois, que te importa a ti o caminho do Egito, para beberes as águas de Sior? E que te importa a ti o caminho da Assíria, para beberes as águas do rio?
19 Thy wickedness shall chasten thee, And thy transgressions reprove thee; And thou shalt know and see that it is an evil and bitter thing That thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, And that the fear of me is not with thee, Saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.
19 A tua malícia te castigará, e as tuas apostasias te repreenderão; sabe, pois, e vê, que mal e quão amargo é deixares ao SENHOR teu Deus, e não teres em ti o meu temor, diz o Senhor DEUS dos Exércitos.
20 Of old hast thou broken thy yoke, And burst thy bands, And said, “I will not be in subjection!” For upon every high hill, And under every green tree, Hast thou reclined, playing the harlot.
20 Quando eu já há muito quebrava o teu jugo, e rompia as tuas ataduras, dizias tu: Nunca mais transgredirei; contudo em todo o outeiro alto e debaixo de toda a árvore verde te andas encurvando e prostituindo-te.
21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, Wholly a genuine seed; How then art thou changed to the degenerate shoot of a strange vine?
21 Eu mesmo te plantei como vide excelente, uma semente inteiramente fiel; como, pois, te tornaste para mim uma planta degenerada como vide estranha?
22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, And take thee much soap, Yet is thine iniquity black before me, saith Jehovah.
22 Por isso, ainda que te laves com salitre, e amontoes sabão, a tua iniqüidade está gravada diante de mim, diz o Senhor DEUS.
23 How canst thou say, “I am not polluted,” “I have not gone after Baals”? Behold thy way in the valley! Know what thou hast done, A swift young camel, traversing her ways.
23 Como dizes logo: Não estou contaminada nem andei após os baalins? Vê o teu caminho no vale, conhece o que fizeste; dromedária ligeira és, que anda torcendo os seus caminhos.
24 A wild ass, used to the wilderness, That in her desire snuffeth up the wind, In her occasion, who can turn her aside? All that seek her do not weary themselves; In her month they will find her.
24 Jumenta montês, acostumada ao deserto, que, conforme o desejo da sua alma, sorve o vento, quem a deteria no seu cio? Todos os que a buscarem não se cansarão; no mês dela a acharão.
25 Withhold thy feet from being unshod, And thy throat from thirst! But thou sayest, There is no remedy! No! For I love strangers, And after them I will go.
25 Evita que o teu pé ande descalço, e a tua garganta tenha sede. Mas tu dizes: Não há esperança; porque amo os estranhos, após eles andarei.
26 As a thief is ashamed when he is taken, So is the house of Israel ashamed, They, their kings, and their princes, And their priests, and their prophets;
26 Como fica confundido o ladrão quando o apanham, assim se confundem os da casa de Israel; eles, os seus reis, os seus príncipes, e os seus sacerdotes, e os seus profetas,
27 That say to a stock, Thou art my father, And to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth! For they turn the back to me, and not the face. Yet in the time of their trouble they say, Arise and save us!
27 Que dizem ao pau: Tu és meu pai; e à pedra: Tu me geraste; porque me viraram as costas, e não o rosto; mas no tempo da sua angústia dirão: Levanta-te, e livra-nos.
28 But where are thy gods, which thou hast made thee? Let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble! For according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah!
28 Onde, pois, estão os teus deuses, que fizeste para ti? Que se levantem, se te podem livrar no tempo da tua angústia; porque os teus deuses, ó Judá, são tão numerosos como as tuas cidades.
29 Why do ye enter into controversy with me? Ye have all rebelled against me, saith Jehovah.
29 Por que contendeis comigo? Todos vós transgredistes contra mim, diz o Senhor.
30 In vain have I smitten your children; They would receive no correction; Your own sword hath devoured your prophets, Like a destroying lion.
30 Em vão castiguei os vossos filhos; eles não aceitaram a correção; a vossa espada devorou os vossos profetas como um leão destruidor.
31 O generation! Behold ye the word of Jehovah! Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of darkness? Why then say my people, “We will rove at pleasure, We will come no more to thee”?
31 Oh geração! Considerai vós a palavra do Senhor: Porventura tenho eu sido para Israel um deserto? Ou uma terra da mais espessa escuridão? Por que, pois, diz o meu povo: Temos determinado; não viremos mais a ti?
32 Can a virgin forget her ornaments, Or a bride her belt? Yet my people have forgotten me, days without number!
32 Porventura esquece-se a virgem dos seus enfeites, ou a noiva dos seus adornos? Todavia o meu povo se esqueceu de mim por inumeráveis dias.
33 Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? On this account hast thou accustomed thy ways to wickedness.
33 Por que ornamentas o teu caminho, para buscares o amor? Pois até às malignas ensinaste os teus caminhos.
34 Upon thy skirts is found the blood of the innocent poor, Whom thou didst not find committing violence.
34 Até nas orlas dos teus vestidos se achou o sangue das almas dos inocentes e necessitados; não cavei para achar, pois se vê em todas estas coisas.
35 But notwithstanding all this, thou sayest, I am innocent; Surely his anger is turned away from me. Behold, I will enter into judgment with thee, Because thou sayest, “I have not sinned.”
35 E ainda dizes: Eu estou inocente; certamente a sua ira se desviou de mim. Eis que entrarei em juízo contigo, porquanto dizes: Não pequei.
36 Why dost thou run so eagerly, changing thy way? By Egypt also shalt thou be put to shame, Even as thou hast been put to shame by Assyria.
36 Por que te desvias tanto, mudando o teu caminho? Também do Egito serás envergonhada, como foste envergonhada da Assíria.
37 From Egypt also shalt thou go forth With thy hands upon thy head. For Jehovah hath rejected the objects of thy confidence, Therefore shalt thou not prosper in them.
37 Também daquele sairás com as mãos sobre a tua cabeça; porque o Senhor rejeitou a tua confiança, e não prosperarás com eles.
