1 Woe to the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, To the fading flower, his glorious beauty, At the head of the rich valley of a people stupefied with wine.
1 Ai da coroa de soberba dos bêbados de Efraim, cujo glorioso ornamento é como a flor que cai, que está sobre a cabeça do fértil vale dos vencidos do vinho!
2 Behold a strong, a mighty one from the Lord Like a storm of hail, like a destructive tempest, Like a flood of mighty, overflowing waters, With violence shall dash it to the ground.
2 Eis que o Senhor mandará um homem valente e poderoso; como uma queda de saraiva, uma tormenta de destruição e como uma tempestade de impetuosas águas que trasbordam, violentamente a derribará por terra.
3 It shall be trodden under foot, The proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim.
3 A coroa de soberba dos bêbados de Efraim será pisada aos pés.
4 And the fading flower, their glorious beauty, At the head of the rich valley, Shall be as the early fig before the time of harvest, Which whoso seeth plucketh immediately, And swalloweth as soon as it is in his hand.
4 E a flor caída do seu glorioso ornamento que está sobre a cabeça do fértil vale será como o figo antes do verão, que, vendo-o alguém e tendo-o ainda na mão, o engole.
5 In that day shall Jehovah of hosts Be a glorious crown, and a beautiful diadem to the residue of his people;
5 Naquele dia, o Senhor dos Exércitos será por coroa gloriosa e por grinalda formosa para os restantes de seu povo;
6 A spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, And of strength to them that drive back the enemy to their gates.
6 e será espírito de juízo para o que se assenta a julgar e por fortaleza para os que fazem recuar a peleja até à porta.
7 But even these stagger through wine, And reel through strong drink; The priest and the prophet stagger through strong drink; They are overpowered with wine; They stumble through strong drink; They reel in vision, They stagger in judgment.
7 Mas também estes erram por causa do vinho e com a bebida forte se desencaminham; até o sacerdote e o profeta erram por causa da bebida forte; são absorvidos do vinho, desencaminham-se por causa da bebida forte, andam errados na visão e tropeçam no juízo.
8 For all their tables are full of filthy vomit, So that there is no place clean.
8 Porque todas as suas mesas estão cheias de vômitos e de imundícia; não há nenhum lugar limpo.
9 “Whom,” say they, “will he teach knowledge, And to whom will he impart instruction? To the weaned from the milk? To those just taken from the breast?
9 A quem, pois, se ensinaria a ciência? E a quem se daria a entender o que se ouviu? Ao desmamado e ao arrancado dos seios?
10 For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, Command upon command, command upon command, A little here, and a little there.”
10 Porque é mandamento sobre mandamento, mandamento e mais mandamento, regra sobre regra, regra e mais regra: um pouco aqui, um pouco ali.
11 Yea, with stammering lips and a strange tongue He shall indeed speak to this people;
11 Pelo que, por lábios estranhos e por outra língua, falará a este povo,
12 He that said to them, “This is the way of rest, give rest to the weary; This is the way of safety”; But they would not hear.
12 ao qual disse: Este é o descanso, dai descanso ao cansado; e este é o refrigério; mas não quiseram ouvir.
13 Then shall the word of Jehovah be indeed to them “Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, Command upon command, command upon command, A little here, and a little there,” So that they shall go on, and fall backwards, and be broken, And be snared and caught.
13 Assim, pois, a palavra do Senhor lhes será mandamento sobre mandamento, mandamento e mais mandamento, regra sobre regra, regra e mais regra: um pouco aqui, um pouco ali; para que vão, e caiam para trás, e se quebrantem, e se enlacem, e sejam presos.
14 Wherefore hear ye the word of Jehovah, Ye scoffers, who rule this people in Jerusalem!
14 Ouvi, pois, a palavra do Senhor , homens escarnecedores que dominais este povo que está em Jerusalém.
15 Since ye say, “We have entered into a covenant with death, And with the under-world have we made an agreement, The overflowing scourge, when it passeth through, shall not reach us; For we have made falsehood our refuge, And in deceit we have hidden ourselves.”
15 Porquanto dizeis: Fizemos concerto com a morte e com o inferno fizemos aliança; quando passar o dilúvio do açoite, não chegará a nós, porque pusemos a mentira por nosso refúgio e debaixo da falsidade nos escondemos.
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I have laid in Zion as a foundation a stone, A tried stone, a precious corner-stone, a sure foundation; He that trusteth shall not flee away.
16 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor Jeová : Eis que eu assentei em Sião uma pedra, uma pedra já provada, pedra preciosa de esquina, que está bem firme e fundada; aquele que crer não se apresse.
17 I will make justice a line, And righteousness a plummet, And the hail shall sweep away the refuge of falsehood, And the waters shall overwhelm its hiding-place;
17 E regrarei o juízo pela linha e a justiça, pelo prumo, e a saraiva varrerá o refúgio da mentira, e as águas cobrirão o esconderijo.
18 And your covenant with death shall be broken, And your agreement with the under-world shall not stand; When the overflowing scourge shall pass through, By it shall ye be beaten down.
18 E o vosso concerto com a morte se anulará; e a vossa aliança com o inferno não subsistirá; e, quando o dilúvio do açoite passar, então, sereis oprimidos por ele.
19 As often as it passeth through, it shall bear you away; For every morning shall it pass through, By day and by night; Even to hear the rumor of it shall be terrible.
19 Desde que comece a passar, vos arrebatará, porque todas as manhãs passará e todos os dias e todas as noites; e será que somente o ouvir tal notícia causará grande turbação.
20 Yea, the bed is too short for one to stretch himself on it, And the covering too narrow for one to wrap himself in it.
20 Porque a cama será tão curta, que ninguém se poderá estender nela; e o cobertor, tão estreito, que ninguém se poderá cobrir com ele.
21 For Jehovah will rise up, as in mount Perazim; He will be moved with anger, as in the valley of Gibeon, To perform his act, his strange act, And to execute his work, his strange work.
21 Porque o Senhor se levantará, como no monte de Perazim, e se irará, como no vale de Gibeão, para fazer a sua obra, a sua estranha obra, e para executar o seu ato, o seu estranho ato.
22 Now, therefore, be ye no longer scoffers, Lest your bands become stronger; For destruction and punishment have been revealed to me From Jehovah of hosts concerning the whole land!
22 Agora, pois, não mais escarneçais, para que vossas ligaduras se não façam mais fortes; porque já ouvi o Senhor Jeová dos Exércitos falar de uma destruição, e esta já está determinada sobre toda a terra.
23 Give ear, and listen to my voice, Attend, and hearken to my words!
23 Inclinai os ouvidos e ouvi a minha voz; atendei bem e ouvi o meu discurso.
24 Is the ploughman always ploughing in order to sow? Is he always opening and harrowing his field?
24 Porventura, lavra todo o dia o lavrador, para semear? Ou abre e esterroa todo o dia a sua terra?
25 When he hath made the face thereof even, Doth he not then scatter the dill, and cast abroad the cumin, And sow the wheat in rows, And the barley in its appointed place, And the spelt in his border?
25 Não é, antes, assim: quando já tem gradado a sua superfície, então, espalha nela ervilhaca, e semeia cominhos; ou lança nela do melhor trigo, ou cevada escolhida, ou centeio, cada qual no seu lugar?
26 Thus his God rightly instructeth him, And giveth him knowledge.
26 O seu Deus o ensina e o instrui acerca do que há de fazer.
27 The dill is not beaten out with the thrashing-sledge, Nor is the wheel of the wain rolled over the cumin; But the dill is beaten out with a staff, And the cumin with a rod.
27 Porque a ervilhaca não se trilha com instrumento de trilhar, nem sobre os cominhos passa roda de carro; mas, com uma vara, se sacode a ervilhaca e os cominhos, com um pedaço de pau.
28 Bread-corn is beaten out, Yet doth not the husbandman thrash it without limit. He driveth over it the wheels of the wain, And the horses, yet doth he not utterly crush it.
28 O trigo é esmiuçado, mas não se trilha continuamente, nem se esmiúça com as rodas do seu carro, nem se quebra com os seus cavalos.
29 This also proceedeth from Jehovah of hosts; He is wonderful in counsel, Excellent in wisdom.
29 Até isto procede do Senhor dos Exércitos, porque é maravilhoso em conselho e grande em obra.
