1 The prophecy concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus shall be no more a city; It shall become a heap of ruins.
1 Oráculo contra Damasco. Damasco vai ser suprimida do número das cidades, e será reduzida a ruínas abandonadas para sempre.
2 The cities of Aroer shall be forsaken; They shall be pastures for flocks, Which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
2 Suas cidades serão abandonadas aos rebanhos que virão repousar aí sem que ninguém os enxote.
3 The fortress shall cease from Ephraim, And the kingdom from Damascus, and the rest of Syria; It shall be with them as with the glory of the children of Israel, Saith Jehovah of hosts.
3 Foi tirado o baluarte de Efraim, foi tirada a realeza de Damasco; os restos de Aarão perecerão, passarão como a glória de Israel. Oráculo do Senhor dos exércitos.
4 In that day shall the glory of Jacob sink away, And the fatness of his flesh become leanness.
4 Naquele dia a glória de Jacó declinará, e sua gordura reduzir-se-á em magreza,
5 And it shall be as when the harvest-man gathereth the corn, And reapeth the ears with his arm; Yea, as when one gleaneth ears in the valley of Rephaim.
5 como quando o ceifador já colheu o trigo e seu braço cortou as espigas, alguém rebusca as searas no vale de Rafaim;
6 There shall be left in it only a gleaning, as in the olive-harvest, Two or three berries on the top of the highest bough, Four or five on the fruitful branches, Saith Jehovah, the God of Israel.
6 aí não haverá para respigar, como quando já se varejou as oliveiras, senão dois ou três bagos no mais alto topo. Oráculo do Senhor, Deus de Israel.
7 In that day shall a man have regard to his Maker, And his eyes shall look to the Holy One of Israel.
7 Naquele dia o homem voltará seus olhares para o seu Criador, seus olhos verão o Santo de Israel;
8 He shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, Nor have respect to that which his fingers have made, The images of Astarte and the Sun-pillars.
8 e ele não olhará mais aquilo que seus dedos fizeram {as estacas sagradas e as estelas ao sol}.
9 In that day shall his fortified cities be like ruins in the forests, or on the mountain tops, Which the enemy left, in flight from the children of Israel; And the land shall be a desolation.
9 Naquele dia, tuas cidades serão abandonadas como as cidades despovoadas dos amorreus e dos heveus, abandonadas no tempo da invasão dos israelitas. Elas ficarão desabitadas,
10 For thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, And hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength; Therefore though thou plant beautiful plants, And set shoots from a foreign soil,
10 porque esqueceste o Deus que te salva, e não te lembraste de tua fortaleza! Esforçar-te-ás em vão para plantar jardins de Adônis, e neles semear plantas exóticas;
11 When thou hast planted them, though thou hedge them in, And in the morning bring thy plants to the blossom, Yet shall the harvest flee away, In the day of pain and desperate sorrow.
11 no dia em que plantares, vê-los-ás crescer, e numa bela manhã tua planta dará flores; porém a colheita será nula no dia do infortúnio, e o mal, irremediável.
12 Alas! a tumult of many nations! They rage with the raging of the sea. Alas! a roaring of kingdoms! They roar with the roaring of mighty waters.
12 Oh! Esse barulho de povo numeroso, esse rumor semelhante ao do mar! Esse tumulto de nações poderosas, semelhante ao brilhar de águas impetuosas!
13 Like the roaring of mighty waters do the nations roar; He rebuketh them, and they flee away, Driven like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, Like stubble before the whirlwind.
13 Ele as ameaça e elas fogem para longe como, nas alturas, a palha levada pelo vento, como a poeira levantada pela tempestade.
14 At the time of evening, behold, terror! Before morning, behold, they are no more! This is the portion of them that spoil us, And the lot of them that plunder us.
14 Quando veio a noite, houve terror, e antes da manhã, nada mais restava deles. Esta será a sorte daqueles que nos saqueiam, tal será o quinhão daqueles que nos despojam.
