1 Wives, likewise, subject yourselves to your own husbands, so that even if some are disobedient to the word, that by the conduct of their wives, without a word, they shall be gained for Christ,
1 Semelhantemente vós, mulheres, sede submissas a vossos maridos; para que também, se alguns deles não obedecem à palavra, sejam ganhos sem palavra pelo procedimento de suas mulheres,
2 when they observe your chaste conduct with fear.
2 considerando o vosso procedimento casto e com temor.
3 Of whom let it not be the outward adorning of braiding of hair, and wearing of gold, or of putting on of fine clothes,
3 Não seja o seu adorno o enfeite exterior dos cabelos entrançados, das guarnições de renda de ouro ou da compostura dos vestidos,
4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible attitude of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious before God.
4 mas seja o homem que está escondido no coração, no vestido incorruptível de um espírito manso e tranqüilo, que é de grande estima diante de Deus.
5 For thus formerly, the holy women who hoped on God also adorned themselves, subjecting themselves to their own husbands,
5 Pois assim se adornavam também noutro tempo as santas mulheres que esperavam em Deus, estando sujeitas a seus maridos,
6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, of whom you became children, when you do good and are not afraid of any terror.
6 como Sara obedeceu a Abraão, chamando-lhe senhor, da qual vos tornais filhas, se fazeis o bem e não temeis perturbação alguma.
7 Husbands, likewise, live together according to knowledge as with a weaker vessel, with the wife, showing her honor as also a fellow heir of the grace of life, in order that your prayers may not be hindered.
7 Igualmente vós, maridos, vivei com elas segundo a ciência, como sendo vaso mulheril mais fraco, dando-lhes honra como a herdeiras juntamente convosco da graça da vida, para que as vossas orações não sejam impedidas.
8 Finally, all of you be like-minded, sympathetic, loving the brothers, compassionate, friendly,
8 Finalmente, sede todos de um mesmo sentimento, compassivos, cheios de amor fraternal, misericordiosos, humildes,
9 not rendering evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called for this purpose, that you may inherit a blessing.
9 não retribuindo mal por mal, nem injúria por injúria; mas, pelo contrário, bendizendo, porque para isto fostes chamados, a fim de que recebais bênção por herança.
10 For
10 Pois: Quem quer amar a vida E ver os dias bons, Refreie a sua língua do mal E os seus lábios não falem engano,
11 — ausente —
11 Aparte-se do mal, e faça o bem, Busque a paz e vá após dela;
12 — ausente —
12 Porque os olhos do Senhor estão sobre os justos E os seus ouvidos atentos às súplicas deles, Mas o rosto do Senhor está sobre os que fazem o mal.
13 And who is he that shall injure you if you become imitators of that which is good?
13 Quem é o que vos fará mal, se fordes zelosos do bem?
14 But even if you should suffer on account of righteousness, you are blessed. “But do not fear their threats, nor be troubled.”
14 Mas também, se padecerdes por amor da justiça, bem-aventurados sereis; e não temais as suas ameaças, nem vos turbeis;
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be prepared with a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
15 antes santificai em vossos corações a Cristo como Senhor; e estai sempre preparados para responder com mansidão e temor a todo aquele que vos pedir a razão da esperança que há em vós;
16 having a good conscience, so that in what they speak against you as evildoers, those reviling your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame.
16 tendo uma boa consciência, para que, naquilo em que falam mal de vós, fiquem confundidos os que vituperam o vosso bom procedimento em Cristo.
17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if it is the will of God, than for doing evil.
17 Porque melhor é sofrerdes fazendo o bem, se a vontade de Deus assim o quer, do que fazendo o mal.
18 For Christ also suffered once to atone for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive by the Spirit,
18 Porque também Cristo morreu uma só vez pelos pecados, o justo pelos injustos, para levar-nos a Deus; sendo, na verdade, morto na carne, mas vivificado no espírito;
19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison,
19 no qual também foi, e pregou aos espíritos em prisão;
20 who formerly disobeyed, when the longsuffering of God was waiting in the days of Noah, when the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water;
20 os quais noutro tempo foram rebeldes, quando a longanimidade de Deus esperava, nos dias de Noé, enquanto se preparava a arca; na qual poucas, isto é, oito almas se salvaram através da água,
21 which as an antitype, baptism now also saves us—(not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
21 que também agora, por uma verdadeira figura-o batismo, vos salva, o qual não é o despojamento da imundícia da carne, mas a indagação de uma boa consciência para com Deus, pela ressurreição de Jesus Cristo,
22 who having gone into heaven, is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers being subjected to Him.
22 que está à destra de Deus, tendo subido ao céu; havendo-se-lhe sujeitado os anjos, e as autoridades, e as potestades.
