Give ear|strong="H0238", O my people|strong="H5971", to my law|strong="H8451": incline|strong="H5186" your ears|strong="H0241" to the words|strong="H0561" of my mouth|strong="H6310".
I will open|strong="H6605" my mouth|strong="H6310" in a parable|strong="H4912": I will utter|strong="H5042" dark sayings|strong="H2420" of old|strong="H6924":
Which we have heard|strong="H8085" and known|strong="H3045", and our fathers|strong="H0001" have told|strong="H5608" us.
We will not hide|strong="H3582" them from their children|strong="H1121", shewing|strong="H5608" to the generation|strong="H1755" to come|strong="H0314" the praises|strong="H8416" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and his strength|strong="H5807", and his wonderful works|strong="H6381" that he hath done|strong="H6213".
For he established|strong="H6965" a testimony|strong="H5715" in Jacob|strong="H3290", and appointed|strong="H7760" a law|strong="H8451" in Israel|strong="H3478", which he commanded|strong="H6680" our fathers|strong="H0001", that they should make them known|strong="H3045" to their children|strong="H1121":
That the generation|strong="H1755" to come|strong="H0314" might know|strong="H3045" them, even the children|strong="H1121" which should be born|strong="H3205"; who should arise|strong="H6965" and declare|strong="H5608" them to their children|strong="H1121":
That they might set|strong="H7760" their hope|strong="H3689" in God|strong="H0430", and not forget|strong="H7911" the works|strong="H4611" of God|strong="H0410", but keep|strong="H5341" his commandments|strong="H4687":
And might not be as their fathers|strong="H0001", a stubborn|strong="H5637" and rebellious|strong="H4784" generation|strong="H1755"; a generation|strong="H1755" that set|strong="H3559" not their heart|strong="H3820" aright|strong="H3559", and whose spirit|strong="H7307" was not stedfast|strong="H0539" with God|strong="H0410".
The children|strong="H1121" of Ephraim|strong="H0669", being armed|strong="H5401", and carrying|strong="H7411" bows|strong="H7198", turned back|strong="H2015" in the day|strong="H3117" of battle|strong="H7128".
They kept|strong="H8104" not the covenant|strong="H1285" of God|strong="H0430", and refused|strong="H3985" to walk|strong="H3212" in his law|strong="H8451";
And forgat|strong="H7911" his works|strong="H5949", and his wonders|strong="H6381" that he had shewed|strong="H7200" them.
Marvellous things|strong="H6382" did|strong="H6213" he in the sight|strong="H5048" of their fathers|strong="H0001", in the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714", in the field|strong="H7704" of Zoan|strong="H6814".
He divided|strong="H1234" the sea|strong="H3220", and caused them to pass through|strong="H5674"; and he made the waters|strong="H4325" to stand|strong="H5324" as an heap|strong="H5067".
In the daytime|strong="H3119" also he led|strong="H5148" them with a cloud|strong="H6051", and all the night|strong="H3915" with a light|strong="H0216" of fire|strong="H0784".
He clave|strong="H1234" the rocks|strong="H6697" in the wilderness|strong="H4057", and gave them drink|strong="H8248" as out of the great|strong="H7227" depths|strong="H8415".
He brought|strong="H3318" streams|strong="H5140" also out of the rock|strong="H5553", and caused waters|strong="H4325" to run down|strong="H3381" like rivers|strong="H5104".
And they sinned|strong="H2398" yet more|strong="H3254" against him by provoking|strong="H4784" the most High|strong="H5945" in the wilderness|strong="H6723".
And they tempted|strong="H5254" God|strong="H0410" in their heart|strong="H3824" by asking|strong="H7592" meat|strong="H0400" for their lust|strong="H5315".
Yea, they spake|strong="H1696" against God|strong="H0430"; they said|strong="H0559", Can|strong="H3201" God|strong="H0410" furnish|strong="H6186" a table|strong="H7979" in the wilderness|strong="H4057"?
Behold, he smote|strong="H5221" the rock|strong="H6697", that the waters|strong="H4325" gushed out|strong="H2100", and the streams|strong="H5158" overflowed|strong="H7857"; can|strong="H3201" he give|strong="H5414" bread|strong="H3899" also? can|strong="H3201" he provide|strong="H3559" flesh|strong="H7607" for his people|strong="H5971"?
Therefore the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* heard|strong="H8085" this, and was wroth|strong="H5674": so a fire|strong="H0784" was kindled|strong="H5400" against Jacob|strong="H3290", and anger|strong="H0639" also came up|strong="H5927" against Israel|strong="H3478";
Because they believed|strong="H0539" not in God|strong="H0430", and trusted|strong="H0982" not in his salvation|strong="H3444":
Though he had commanded|strong="H6680" the clouds|strong="H7834" from above|strong="H4605", and opened|strong="H6605" the doors|strong="H1817" of heaven|strong="H8064",
And had rained down|strong="H4305" manna|strong="H4478" upon them to eat|strong="H0398", and had given|strong="H5414" them of the corn|strong="H1715" of heaven|strong="H8064".
Man|strong="H0376" did eat|strong="H0398" angels’|strong="H0047" food|strong="H3899": he sent|strong="H7971" them meat|strong="H6720" to the full|strong="H7648".
He caused an east wind|strong="H6921" to blow|strong="H5265" in the heaven|strong="H8064": and by his power|strong="H5797" he brought in|strong="H5090" the south wind|strong="H8486".
He rained|strong="H4305" flesh|strong="H7607" also upon them as dust|strong="H6083", and feathered|strong="H3671" fowls|strong="H5775" like as the sand|strong="H2344" of the sea|strong="H3220":
And he let it fall|strong="H5307" in the midst|strong="H7130" of their camp|strong="H4264", round about|strong="H5439" their habitations|strong="H4908".
So they did eat|strong="H0398", and were well|strong="H3966" filled|strong="H7646": for he gave|strong="H0935" them their own desire|strong="H8378";
They were not estranged|strong="H2114" from their lust|strong="H8378". But while their meat|strong="H0400" was yet in their mouths|strong="H6310",
The wrath|strong="H0639" of God|strong="H0430" came|strong="H5927" upon them, and slew|strong="H2026" the fattest|strong="H4924" of them, and smote down|strong="H3766" the chosen|strong="H0970" men of Israel|strong="H3478".
For all this they sinned|strong="H2398" still, and believed|strong="H0539" not for his wondrous works|strong="H6381".
Therefore their days|strong="H3117" did he consume|strong="H3615" in vanity|strong="H1892", and their years|strong="H8141" in trouble|strong="H0928".
When he slew|strong="H2026" them, then they sought|strong="H1875" him: and they returned|strong="H7725" and enquired early|strong="H7836" after God|strong="H0410".
And they remembered|strong="H2142" that God|strong="H0430" was their rock|strong="H6697", and the high|strong="H5945" God|strong="H0410" their redeemer|strong="H1350".
Nevertheless they did flatter|strong="H6601" him with their mouth|strong="H6310", and they lied|strong="H3576" unto him with their tongues|strong="H3956".
For their heart|strong="H3820" was not right|strong="H3559" with him, neither were they stedfast|strong="H0539" in his covenant|strong="H1285".
But he, being full of compassion|strong="H7349", forgave|strong="H3722" their iniquity|strong="H5771", and destroyed|strong="H7843" them not: yea, many a time|strong="H7235" turned|strong="H7725" he his anger|strong="H0639" away|strong="H7725", and did not stir up|strong="H5782" all his wrath|strong="H2534".
For he remembered|strong="H2142" that they were but flesh|strong="H1320"; a wind|strong="H7307" that passeth away|strong="H1980", and cometh not again|strong="H7725".
How|strong="H4100" oft did they provoke|strong="H4784" him in the wilderness|strong="H4057", and grieve|strong="H6087" him in the desert|strong="H3452"!
Yea, they turned back|strong="H7725" and tempted|strong="H5254" God|strong="H0410", and limited|strong="H8428" the Holy One|strong="H6918" of Israel|strong="H3478".
They remembered|strong="H2142" not his hand|strong="H3027", nor the day|strong="H3117" when he delivered|strong="H6299" them from the enemy|strong="H6862".
How he had wrought|strong="H7760" his signs|strong="H0226" in Egypt|strong="H4714", and his wonders|strong="H4159" in the field|strong="H7704" of Zoan|strong="H6814":
And had turned|strong="H2015" their rivers|strong="H2975" into blood|strong="H1818"; and their floods|strong="H5140", that they could not drink|strong="H8354".
He sent|strong="H7971" divers sorts of flies|strong="H6157" among them, which devoured|strong="H0398" them; and frogs|strong="H6854", which destroyed|strong="H7843" them.
He gave|strong="H5414" also their increase|strong="H2981" unto the caterpiller|strong="H2625", and their labour|strong="H3018" unto the locust|strong="H0697".
He destroyed|strong="H2026" their vines|strong="H1612" with hail|strong="H1259", and their sycomore trees|strong="H8256" with frost|strong="H2602".
He gave up|strong="H5462" their cattle|strong="H1165" also to the hail|strong="H1259", and their flocks|strong="H4735" to hot thunderbolts|strong="H7565".
He cast|strong="H7971" upon them the fierceness|strong="H2740" of his anger|strong="H0639", wrath|strong="H5678", and indignation|strong="H2195", and trouble|strong="H6869", by sending|strong="H4917" evil|strong="H7451" angels|strong="H4397" among them.
He made|strong="H6424" a way|strong="H5410" to his anger|strong="H0639"; he spared|strong="H2820" not their soul|strong="H5315" from death|strong="H4194", but gave|strong="H5462" their life|strong="H2416" over|strong="H5462" to the pestilence|strong="H1698";
And smote|strong="H5221" all the firstborn|strong="H1060" in Egypt|strong="H4714"; the chief|strong="H7225" of their strength|strong="H0202" in the tabernacles|strong="H0168" of Ham|strong="H2526":
But made his own people|strong="H5971" to go forth|strong="H5265" like sheep|strong="H6629", and guided|strong="H5090" them in the wilderness|strong="H4057" like a flock|strong="H5739".
And he led|strong="H5148" them on safely|strong="H0983", so that they feared|strong="H6342" not: but the sea|strong="H3220" overwhelmed|strong="H3680" their enemies|strong="H0341".
And he brought|strong="H0935" them to the border|strong="H1366" of his sanctuary|strong="H6944", even to this mountain|strong="H2022", which his right hand|strong="H3225" had purchased|strong="H7069".
He cast out|strong="H1644" the heathen|strong="H1471" also before|strong="H6440" them, and divided|strong="H5307" them an inheritance|strong="H5159" by line|strong="H2256", and made the tribes|strong="H7626" of Israel|strong="H3478" to dwell|strong="H7931" in their tents|strong="H0168".
Yet they tempted|strong="H5254" and provoked|strong="H4784" the most high|strong="H5945" God|strong="H0430", and kept|strong="H8104" not his testimonies|strong="H5713":
But turned back|strong="H5472", and dealt unfaithfully|strong="H0898" like their fathers|strong="H0001": they were turned aside|strong="H2015" like a deceitful|strong="H7423" bow|strong="H7198".
For they provoked him to anger|strong="H3707" with their high places|strong="H1116", and moved him to jealousy|strong="H7065" with their graven images|strong="H6456".
When God|strong="H0430" heard|strong="H8085" this, he was wroth|strong="H5674", and greatly|strong="H3966" abhorred|strong="H3988" Israel|strong="H3478":
So that he forsook|strong="H5203" the tabernacle|strong="H4908" of Shiloh|strong="H7887", the tent|strong="H0168" which he placed|strong="H7931" among men|strong="H0120";
And delivered|strong="H5414" his strength|strong="H5797" into captivity|strong="H7628", and his glory|strong="H8597" into the enemy’s|strong="H6862" hand|strong="H3027".
He gave|strong="H5462" his people|strong="H5971" over|strong="H5462" also unto the sword|strong="H2719"; and was wroth|strong="H5674" with his inheritance|strong="H5159".
The fire|strong="H0784" consumed|strong="H0398" their young men|strong="H0970"; and their maidens|strong="H1330" were not given to marriage|strong="H1984".
Their priests|strong="H3548" fell|strong="H5307" by the sword|strong="H2719"; and their widows|strong="H0490" made no lamentation|strong="H1058".
Then the Lord|strong="H0136" awaked|strong="H3364" as one out of sleep|strong="H3463", and like a mighty man|strong="H1368" that shouteth|strong="H7442" by reason of wine|strong="H3196".
And he smote|strong="H5221" his enemies|strong="H6862" in the hinder parts|strong="H0268": he put|strong="H5414" them to a perpetual|strong="H5769" reproach|strong="H2781".
Moreover he refused|strong="H3988" the tabernacle|strong="H0168" of Joseph|strong="H3130", and chose|strong="H0977" not the tribe|strong="H7626" of Ephraim|strong="H0669":
But chose|strong="H0977" the tribe|strong="H7626" of Judah|strong="H3063", the mount|strong="H2022" Zion|strong="H6726" which he loved|strong="H0157".
And he built|strong="H1129" his sanctuary|strong="H4720" like high|strong="H7311" palaces, like the earth|strong="H0776" which he hath established|strong="H3245" for ever|strong="H5769".
He chose|strong="H0977" David|strong="H1732" also his servant|strong="H5650", and took|strong="H3947" him from the sheepfolds|strong="H4356":
From following|strong="H0310" the ewes great with young|strong="H5763" he brought|strong="H0935" him to feed|strong="H7462" Jacob|strong="H3290" his people|strong="H5971", and Israel|strong="H3478" his inheritance|strong="H5159".
So he fed|strong="H7462" them according to the integrity|strong="H8537" of his heart|strong="H3824"; and guided|strong="H5148" them by the skilfulness|strong="H8394" of his hands|strong="H3709".
