1 And|strong="G2532" it came to pass|strong="G1096", when|strong="G3753" Jesus|strong="G2424" had made an end of|strong="G5055" commanding|strong="G1299" his|strong="G0846" twelve|strong="G1427" disciples|strong="G3101", he departed|strong="G3327" thence|strong="G1564" to teach|strong="G1321" and|strong="G2532" to preach|strong="G2784" in|strong="G1722" their|strong="G0846" cities|strong="G4172".
2 Now when|strong="G1161" John|strong="G2491" had heard|strong="G0191" in|strong="G1722" the prison|strong="G1201" the works|strong="G2041" of Christ|strong="G5547", he sent|strong="G3992" two|strong="G1417" of|strong="G3101" his|strong="G0846" disciples|strong="G3101",
3 And said|strong="G2036" unto him|strong="G0846", Art|strong="G1488" thou|strong="G4771" he that should come|strong="G2064", or|strong="G2228" do we look for|strong="G4328" another|strong="G2087"?
4 Jesus|strong="G2424" answered|strong="G0611" and said|strong="G2036" unto them|strong="G0846", \+w Go|strong="G4198"\+w* \+w and shew|strong="G0518"\+w* \+w John|strong="G2491"\+w* \+w again|strong="G0518"\+w* \+w those things which|strong="G3739"\+w* \+w ye do hear|strong="G0191"\+w* \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w see|strong="G0991"\+w*:
5 \+w The blind|strong="G5185"\+w* \+w receive their sight|strong="G0308"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w the lame|strong="G5560"\+w* \+w walk|strong="G4043"\+w*, \+w the lepers|strong="G3015"\+w* \+w are cleansed|strong="G2511"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w the deaf|strong="G2974"\+w* \+w hear|strong="G0191"\+w*, \+w the dead|strong="G3498"\+w* \+w are raised up|strong="G1453"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w the poor|strong="G4434"\+w* \+w have the gospel preached to them|strong="G2097"\+w*.
6 \+w And|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w blessed|strong="G3107"\+w* \+w is|strong="G2076"\+w* \+add he\+add*, \+w who|strong="G3739"\+w*\+w soever|strong="G1437"\+w* \+w shall|strong="G4624"\+w* \+w not|strong="G3361"\+w* \+w be offended|strong="G4624"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w me|strong="G1698"\+w*.
7 And as|strong="G1161" they|strong="G5130" departed|strong="G4198", Jesus|strong="G2424" began|strong="G0756" to say|strong="G3004" unto the multitudes|strong="G3793" concerning|strong="G4012" John|strong="G2491", \+w What|strong="G5101"\+w* \+w went ye out|strong="G1831"\+w* \+w into|strong="G1519"\+w* \+w the wilderness|strong="G2048"\+w* \+w to see|strong="G2300"\+w*? \+w A reed|strong="G2563"\+w* \+w shaken|strong="G4531"\+w* \+w with|strong="G5259"\+w* \+w the wind|strong="G0417"\+w*?
8 \+w But|strong="G0235"\+w* \+w what|strong="G5101"\+w* \+w went ye out|strong="G1831"\+w* \+w for to see|strong="G1492"\+w*? \+w A man|strong="G0444"\+w* \+w clothed|strong="G0294"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w soft|strong="G3120"\+w* \+w raiment|strong="G2440"\+w*? \+w behold|strong="G2400"\+w*, \+w they that|strong="G3588"\+w* \+w wear|strong="G5409"\+w* \+w soft|strong="G3120"\+w* \+add clothing\+add* \+w are|strong="G1526"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w kings’|strong="G0935"\+w* \+w houses|strong="G3624"\+w*.
9 \+w But|strong="G0235"\+w* \+w what|strong="G5101"\+w* \+w went ye out|strong="G1831"\+w* \+w for to see|strong="G1492"\+w*? \+w A prophet|strong="G4396"\+w*? \+w yea|strong="G3483"\+w*, \+w I say|strong="G3004"\+w* \+w unto you|strong="G5213"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w more than|strong="G4053"\+w* \+w a prophet|strong="G4396"\+w*.
10 \+w For|strong="G1063"\+w* \+w this|strong="G3778"\+w* \+w is|strong="G2076"\+w* \+add he\+add*, \+w of|strong="G4012"\+w* \+w whom|strong="G3739"\+w* \+w it is written|strong="G1125"\+w*, \+w Behold|strong="G2400"\+w*, \+w I|strong="G1473"\+w* \+w send|strong="G0649"\+w* \+w my|strong="G3450"\+w* \+w messenger|strong="G0032"\+w* \+w before|strong="G4253"\+w* \+w thy|strong="G4675"\+w* \+w face|strong="G4383"\+w*, \+w which|strong="G3739"\+w* \+w shall prepare|strong="G2680"\+w* \+w thy|strong="G4675"\+w* \+w way|strong="G3598"\+w* \+w before|strong="G1715"\+w* \+w thee|strong="G4675"\+w*.
11 \+w Verily|strong="G0281"\+w* \+w I say|strong="G3004"\+w* \+w unto you|strong="G5213"\+w*, \+w Among|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w them that are born|strong="G1084"\+w* \+w of women|strong="G1135"\+w* \+w there hath|strong="G1453"\+w* \+w not|strong="G3756"\+w* \+w risen|strong="G1453"\+w* \+w a greater than|strong="G3187"\+w* \+w John|strong="G2491"\+w* \+w the Baptist|strong="G0910"\+w*: \+w notwithstanding|strong="G1161"\+w* \+w he that is least|strong="G3398"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w the kingdom|strong="G0932"\+w* \+w of heaven|strong="G3772"\+w* \+w is|strong="G2076"\+w* \+w greater than|strong="G3187"\+w* \+w he|strong="G0846"\+w*.
12 \+w And|strong="G1161"\+w* \+w from|strong="G0575"\+w* \+w the days|strong="G2250"\+w* \+w of John|strong="G2491"\+w* \+w the Baptist|strong="G0910"\+w* \+w until|strong="G2193"\+w* \+w now|strong="G0737"\+w* \+w the kingdom|strong="G0932"\+w* \+w of heaven|strong="G3772"\+w* \+w suffereth violence|strong="G0971"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w the violent|strong="G0973"\+w* \+w take|strong="G0726"\+w* \+w it|strong="G0846"\+w* \+w by force|strong="G0726"\+w*.
13 \+w For|strong="G1063"\+w* \+w all|strong="G3956"\+w* \+w the prophets|strong="G4396"\+w* \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w the law|strong="G3551"\+w* \+w prophesied|strong="G4395"\+w* \+w until|strong="G2193"\+w* \+w John|strong="G2491"\+w*.
14 \+w And|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w if|strong="G1487"\+w* \+w ye will|strong="G2309"\+w* \+w receive|strong="G1209"\+w* \+add it\+add*, \+w this|strong="G0846"\+w* \+w is|strong="G2076"\+w* \+w Elias|strong="G2243"\+w*, \+w which|strong="G3588"\+w* \+w was for|strong="G3195"\+w* \+w to come|strong="G2064"\+w*.
15 \+w He that hath|strong="G2192"\+w* \+w ears|strong="G3775"\+w* \+w to hear|strong="G0191"\+w*, \+w let him hear|strong="G0191"\+w*.
16 \+w But|strong="G1161"\+w* \+w whereunto|strong="G5101"\+w* \+w shall I liken|strong="G3666"\+w* \+w this|strong="G3778"\+w* \+w generation|strong="G1074"\+w*? \+w It is|strong="G2076"\+w* \+w like unto|strong="G3664"\+w* \+w children|strong="G3808"\+w* \+w sitting|strong="G2521"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w the markets|strong="G0058"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w calling unto|strong="G4377"\+w* \+w their|strong="G0846"\+w* \+w fellows|strong="G2083"\+w*,
17 \+w And|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w saying|strong="G3004"\+w*, \+w We have piped|strong="G0832"\+w* \+w unto you|strong="G5213"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w ye have|strong="G3738"\+w* \+w not|strong="G3756"\+w* \+w danced|strong="G3738"\+w*; \+w we have mourned|strong="G2354"\+w* \+w unto you|strong="G5213"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w ye have|strong="G2875"\+w* \+w not|strong="G3756"\+w* \+w lamented|strong="G2875"\+w*.
18 \+w For|strong="G1063"\+w* \+w John|strong="G2491"\+w* \+w came|strong="G2064"\+w* \+w neither|strong="G3383"\+w* \+w eating|strong="G2068"\+w* \+w nor|strong="G3383"\+w* \+w drinking|strong="G4095"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w they say|strong="G3004"\+w*, \+w He hath|strong="G2192"\+w* \+w a devil|strong="G1140"\+w*.
19 \+w The Son|strong="G5207"\+w* \+w of man|strong="G0444"\+w* \+w came|strong="G2064"\+w* \+w eating|strong="G2068"\+w* \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w drinking|strong="G4095"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w they say|strong="G3004"\+w*, \+w Behold|strong="G2400"\+w* \+w a man|strong="G0444"\+w* \+w gluttonous|strong="G5314"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w a winebibber|strong="G3630"\+w*, \+w a friend|strong="G5384"\+w* \+w of publicans|strong="G5057"\+w* \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w sinners|strong="G0268"\+w*. \+w But|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w wisdom|strong="G4678"\+w* \+w is justified|strong="G1344"\+w* \+w of|strong="G0575"\+w* \+w her|strong="G0846"\+w* \+w children|strong="G5043"\+w*.
20 Then|strong="G5119" began he|strong="G0756" to upbraid|strong="G3679" the cities|strong="G4172" where|strong="G3739"in|strong="G1722" most|strong="G4118" of|strong="G1411" his|strong="G0846" mighty works|strong="G1411" were done|strong="G1096", because|strong="G3754" they repented|strong="G3340" not|strong="G3756":
21 \+w Woe|strong="G3759"\+w* \+w unto thee|strong="G4671"\+w*, \+w Chorazin|strong="G5523"\+w*! \+w woe|strong="G3759"\+w* \+w unto thee|strong="G4671"\+w*, \+w Bethsaida|strong="G0966"\+w*! \+w for|strong="G3754"\+w* \+w if|strong="G1487"\+w* \+w the mighty works|strong="G1411"\+w*, \+w which were done|strong="G1096"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w you|strong="G5213"\+w*, \+w had been done|strong="G1096"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w Tyre|strong="G5184"\+w* \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w Sidon|strong="G4605"\+w*, \+w they|strong="G3340"\+w* \+w would have|strong="G0302"\+w* \+w repented|strong="G3340"\+w* \+w long ago|strong="G3819"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w sackcloth|strong="G4526"\+w* \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w ashes|strong="G4700"\+w*.
22 \+w But|strong="G4133"\+w* \+w I say|strong="G3004"\+w* \+w unto you|strong="G5213"\+w*, \+w It shall be|strong="G2071"\+w* \+w more tolerable|strong="G0414"\+w* \+w for Tyre|strong="G5184"\+w* \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w Sidon|strong="G4605"\+w* \+w at|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w the day|strong="G2250"\+w* \+w of judgment|strong="G2920"\+w*, \+w than|strong="G2228"\+w* \+w for you|strong="G5213"\+w*.
23 \+w And|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w thou|strong="G4771"\+w*, \+w Capernaum|strong="G2584"\+w*, \+w which art exalted|strong="G5312"\+w* \+w unto|strong="G2193"\+w* \+w heaven|strong="G3772"\+w*, \+w shalt be brought down|strong="G2601"\+w* \+w to|strong="G2193"\+w* \+w hell|strong="G0086"\+w*: \+w for|strong="G3754"\+w* \+w if|strong="G1487"\+w* \+w the mighty works|strong="G1411"\+w*, \+w which have been done|strong="G1096"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w thee|strong="G4671"\+w*, \+w had been done|strong="G1096"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w Sodom|strong="G4670"\+w*, \+w it|strong="G3306"\+w* \+w would have|strong="G0302"\+w* \+w remained|strong="G3306"\+w* \+w until|strong="G3360"\+w* \+w this day|strong="G4594"\+w*.
24 \+w But|strong="G4133"\+w* \+w I say|strong="G3004"\+w* \+w unto you|strong="G5213"\+w*, \+w That|strong="G3754"\+w* \+w it shall be|strong="G2071"\+w* \+w more tolerable|strong="G0414"\+w* \+w for the land|strong="G1093"\+w* \+w of Sodom|strong="G4670"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1722"\+w* \+w the day|strong="G2250"\+w* \+w of judgment|strong="G2920"\+w*, \+w than|strong="G2228"\+w* \+w for thee|strong="G4671"\+w*.
25 At|strong="G1722" that|strong="G1565" time|strong="G2540" Jesus|strong="G2424" answered|strong="G0611" and said|strong="G2036", \+w I thank|strong="G1843"\+w* \+w thee|strong="G4671"\+w*, \+w O Father|strong="G3962"\+w*, \+w Lord|strong="G2962"\+w* \+w of heaven|strong="G3772"\+w* \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w earth|strong="G1093"\+w*, \+w because|strong="G3754"\+w* \+w thou hast hid|strong="G0613"\+w* \+w these things|strong="G5023"\+w* \+w from|strong="G0575"\+w* \+w the wise|strong="G4680"\+w* \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w prudent|strong="G4908"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w hast revealed|strong="G0601"\+w* \+w them|strong="G0846"\+w* \+w unto babes|strong="G3516"\+w*.
26 \+w Even so|strong="G3483"\+w*, \+w Father|strong="G3962"\+w*: \+w for|strong="G3754"\+w* \+w so|strong="G3779"\+w* \+w it seemed|strong="G1096"\+w* \+w good|strong="G2107"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1715"\+w* \+w thy sight|strong="G4675"\+w*.

30 \+w For|strong="G1063"\+w* \+w my|strong="G3450"\+w* \+w yoke|strong="G2218"\+w* \+add is\+add* \+w easy|strong="G5543"\+w*, \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w my|strong="G3450"\+w* \+w burden|strong="G5413"\+w* \+w is|strong="G2076"\+w* \+w light|strong="G1645"\+w*.
