Now will I sing|strong="H7891" to my wellbeloved|strong="H3039" a song|strong="H7892" of my beloved|strong="H1730" touching his vineyard|strong="H3754". My wellbeloved|strong="H3039" hath a vineyard|strong="H3754" in a very fruitful|strong="H1121" hill|strong="H7161":
And he fenced|strong="H5823" it, and gathered out the stones|strong="H5619" thereof, and planted|strong="H5193" it with the choicest vine|strong="H8321", and built|strong="H1129" a tower|strong="H4026" in the midst|strong="H8432" of it, and also made|strong="H2672" a winepress|strong="H3342" therein: and he looked|strong="H6960" that it should bring forth|strong="H6213" grapes|strong="H6025", and it brought forth|strong="H6213" wild grapes|strong="H0891".
And now, O inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", and men|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063", judge|strong="H8199", I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard|strong="H3754".
What could have been done|strong="H6213" more to my vineyard|strong="H3754", that I have not done|strong="H6213" in it? wherefore|strong="H4069", when I looked|strong="H6960" that it should bring forth|strong="H6213" grapes|strong="H6025", brought it forth|strong="H6213" wild grapes|strong="H0891"?
And now go to; I will tell|strong="H3045" you what I will do|strong="H6213" to my vineyard|strong="H3754": I will take away|strong="H5493" the hedge|strong="H4881" thereof, and it shall be eaten up|strong="H1197"; and break down|strong="H6555" the wall|strong="H1447" thereof, and it shall be trodden down|strong="H4823":
And I will lay|strong="H7896" it waste|strong="H1326": it shall not be pruned|strong="H2168", nor digged|strong="H5737"; but there shall come up|strong="H5927" briers|strong="H8068" and thorns|strong="H7898": I will also command|strong="H6680" the clouds|strong="H5645" that they rain|strong="H4305" no rain|strong="H4306" upon it.
For the vineyard|strong="H3754" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635" is the house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478", and the men|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063" his pleasant|strong="H8191" plant|strong="H5194": and he looked|strong="H6960" for judgment|strong="H4941", but behold oppression|strong="H4939"; for righteousness|strong="H6666", but behold a cry|strong="H6818".
Woe|strong="H1945" unto them that join|strong="H5060" house|strong="H1004" to house|strong="H1004", that lay|strong="H7126" field|strong="H7704" to field|strong="H7704", till there be no|strong="H0657" place|strong="H4725", that they may be placed|strong="H3427" alone in the midst|strong="H7130" of the earth|strong="H0776"!
In mine ears|strong="H0241" said the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", Of a truth|strong="H3808" many|strong="H7227" houses|strong="H1004" shall be desolate|strong="H8047", even great|strong="H1419" and fair|strong="H2896", without inhabitant|strong="H3427".
Yea|strong="H3588", ten|strong="H6235" acres|strong="H6776" of vineyard|strong="H3754" shall yield|strong="H6213" one|strong="H0259" bath|strong="H1324", and the seed|strong="H2233" of an homer|strong="H2563" shall yield|strong="H6213" an ephah|strong="H0374".
Woe|strong="H1945" unto them that rise up early|strong="H7925" in the morning|strong="H1242", that they may follow|strong="H7291" strong drink|strong="H7941"; that continue|strong="H0309" until night|strong="H5399", till wine|strong="H3196" inflame|strong="H1814" them!
And the harp|strong="H3658", and the viol|strong="H5035", the tabret|strong="H8596", and pipe|strong="H2485", and wine|strong="H3196", are in their feasts|strong="H4960": but they regard|strong="H5027" not the work|strong="H6467" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, neither consider|strong="H7200" the operation|strong="H4639" of his hands|strong="H3027".
Therefore my people|strong="H5971" are gone into captivity|strong="H1540", because they have no knowledge|strong="H1847": and their honourable|strong="H3519" men|strong="H4962" are famished|strong="H7458", and their multitude|strong="H1995" dried up|strong="H6704" with thirst|strong="H6772".
Therefore hell|strong="H7585" hath enlarged|strong="H7337" herself|strong="H5315", and opened|strong="H6473" her mouth|strong="H6310" without measure|strong="H2706": and their glory|strong="H1926", and their multitude|strong="H1995", and their pomp|strong="H7588", and he that rejoiceth|strong="H5938", shall descend|strong="H3381" into it.
And the mean man|strong="H0120" shall be brought down|strong="H7817", and the mighty man|strong="H0376" shall be humbled|strong="H8213", and the eyes|strong="H5869" of the lofty|strong="H1364" shall be humbled|strong="H8213":
But the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635" shall be exalted|strong="H1361" in judgment|strong="H4941", and God|strong="H0410" that is holy|strong="H6918" shall be sanctified|strong="H6942" in righteousness|strong="H6666".
Then shall the lambs|strong="H3532" feed|strong="H7462" after their manner|strong="H1699", and the waste places|strong="H2723" of the fat ones|strong="H4220" shall strangers|strong="H1481" eat|strong="H0398".
Woe|strong="H1945" unto them that draw|strong="H4900" iniquity|strong="H5771" with cords|strong="H2256" of vanity|strong="H7723", and sin|strong="H2403" as it were with a cart|strong="H5699" rope|strong="H5688":
That say|strong="H0559", Let him make speed|strong="H4116", and hasten|strong="H2363" his work|strong="H4639", that we may see|strong="H7200" it: and let the counsel|strong="H6098" of the Holy One|strong="H6918" of Israel|strong="H3478" draw nigh|strong="H7126" and come|strong="H0935", that we may know|strong="H3045" it!
Woe|strong="H1945" unto them that call|strong="H0559" evil|strong="H7451" good|strong="H2896", and good|strong="H2896" evil|strong="H7451"; that put|strong="H7760" darkness|strong="H2822" for light|strong="H0216", and light|strong="H0216" for darkness|strong="H2822"; that put|strong="H7760" bitter|strong="H4751" for sweet|strong="H4966", and sweet|strong="H4966" for bitter|strong="H4751"!
Woe|strong="H1945" unto them that are wise|strong="H2450" in their own eyes|strong="H5869", and prudent|strong="H0995" in their own sight|strong="H6440"!
Woe|strong="H1945" unto them that are mighty|strong="H1368" to drink|strong="H8354" wine|strong="H3196", and men|strong="H0582" of strength|strong="H2428" to mingle|strong="H4537" strong drink|strong="H7941":
Which justify|strong="H6663" the wicked|strong="H7563" for|strong="H6118" reward|strong="H7810", and take away|strong="H5493" the righteousness|strong="H6666" of the righteous|strong="H6662" from him!
Therefore as the fire|strong="H0784" devoureth|strong="H0398" the stubble|strong="H7179", and the flame|strong="H3956" consumeth|strong="H7503" the chaff|strong="H2842", so their root|strong="H8328" shall be as rottenness|strong="H4716", and their blossom|strong="H6525" shall go up|strong="H5927" as dust|strong="H0080": because they have cast away|strong="H3988" the law|strong="H8451" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", and despised|strong="H5006" the word|strong="H0565" of the Holy One|strong="H6918" of Israel|strong="H3478".
Therefore is the anger|strong="H0639" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* kindled|strong="H2734" against his people|strong="H5971", and he hath stretched forth|strong="H5186" his hand|strong="H3027" against them, and hath smitten|strong="H5221" them: and the hills|strong="H2022" did tremble|strong="H7264", and their carcases|strong="H5038" were torn|strong="H5478" in the midst|strong="H7130" of the streets|strong="H2351". For all this his anger|strong="H0639" is not turned away|strong="H7725", but his hand|strong="H3027" is stretched out|strong="H5186" still.
And he will lift up|strong="H5375" an ensign|strong="H5251" to the nations|strong="H1471" from far|strong="H7350", and will hiss|strong="H8319" unto them from the end|strong="H7097" of the earth|strong="H0776": and, behold, they shall come|strong="H0935" with speed|strong="H4120" swiftly|strong="H7031":
None shall be weary|strong="H5889" nor stumble|strong="H3782" among them; none shall slumber|strong="H5123" nor sleep|strong="H3462"; neither shall the girdle|strong="H0232" of their loins|strong="H2504" be loosed|strong="H6605", nor the latchet|strong="H8288" of their shoes|strong="H5275" be broken|strong="H5423":
Whose arrows|strong="H2671" are sharp|strong="H8150", and all their bows|strong="H7198" bent|strong="H1869", their horses’|strong="H5483" hoofs|strong="H6541" shall be counted|strong="H2803" like flint|strong="H6862", and their wheels|strong="H1534" like a whirlwind|strong="H5492":
Their roaring|strong="H7581" shall be like a lion|strong="H3833", they shall roar|strong="H7580" like young lions|strong="H3715": yea, they shall roar|strong="H5098", and lay hold|strong="H0270" of the prey|strong="H2964", and shall carry it away safe|strong="H6403", and none shall deliver|strong="H5337" it.
And in that day|strong="H3117" they shall roar|strong="H5098" against them like the roaring|strong="H5100" of the sea|strong="H3220": and if one look|strong="H5027" unto the land|strong="H0776", behold darkness|strong="H2822" and sorrow|strong="H6862", and the light|strong="H0216" is darkened|strong="H2821" in the heavens|strong="H6183" thereof.
