1 And he commanded|strong="H6680" the steward of his house|strong="H1004", saying|strong="H0559", Fill|strong="H4390" the men’s|strong="H0582" sacks|strong="H0572" with food|strong="H0400", as much as|strong="H0834" they can|strong="H3201" carry|strong="H5375", and put|strong="H7760" every man’s|strong="H0376" money|strong="H3701" in his sack’s|strong="H0572" mouth|strong="H6310".
2 And put|strong="H7760" my cup|strong="H1375", the silver|strong="H3701" cup|strong="H1375", in the sack’s|strong="H0572" mouth|strong="H6310" of the youngest|strong="H6996", and his corn|strong="H7668" money|strong="H3701". And he did|strong="H6213" according to the word|strong="H1697" that Joseph|strong="H3130" had spoken|strong="H1696".
3 As soon as the morning|strong="H1242" was light|strong="H0215", the men|strong="H0582" were sent away|strong="H7971", they and their asses|strong="H2543".
4 And when they were gone out|strong="H3318" of the city|strong="H5892", and not yet far off|strong="H7368", Joseph|strong="H3130" said|strong="H0559" unto his steward|strong="H1004", Up|strong="H6965", follow|strong="H7291" after|strong="H0310" the men|strong="H0582"; and when thou dost overtake|strong="H5381" them, say|strong="H0559" unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded|strong="H7999" evil|strong="H7451" for good|strong="H2896"?
5 Is not this it in which my lord|strong="H0113" drinketh|strong="H8354", and whereby indeed|strong="H5172" he divineth|strong="H5172"? ye have done evil|strong="H7489" in so doing|strong="H6213".
6 And he overtook|strong="H5381" them, and he spake|strong="H1696" unto them these same|strong="H0428" words|strong="H1697".
7 And they said|strong="H0559" unto him, Wherefore saith|strong="H1696" my lord|strong="H0113" these words|strong="H1697"? God forbid|strong="H2486" that thy servants|strong="H5650" should do|strong="H6213" according to this thing|strong="H1697":
8 Behold, the money|strong="H3701", which we found|strong="H4672" in our sacks’|strong="H0572" mouths|strong="H6310", we brought again|strong="H7725" unto thee out of the land|strong="H0776" of Canaan|strong="H3667": how then should we steal|strong="H1589" out of thy lord’s|strong="H0113" house|strong="H1004" silver|strong="H3701" or gold|strong="H2091"?
9 With whomsoever of thy servants|strong="H5650" it be found|strong="H4672", both let him die|strong="H4191", and we also will be my lord’s|strong="H0113" bondmen|strong="H5650".
10 And he said|strong="H0559", Now also let it be according unto your words|strong="H1697": he with whom it is found|strong="H4672" shall be my servant|strong="H5650"; and ye shall be blameless|strong="H5355".
11 Then they speedily|strong="H4116" took down|strong="H3381" every man|strong="H0376" his sack|strong="H0572" to the ground|strong="H0776", and opened|strong="H6605" every man|strong="H0376" his sack|strong="H0572".
12 And he searched|strong="H2664", and began|strong="H2490" at the eldest|strong="H1419", and left|strong="H3615" at the youngest|strong="H6996": and the cup|strong="H1375" was found|strong="H4672" in Benjamin’s|strong="H1144" sack|strong="H0572".
13 Then they rent|strong="H7167" their clothes|strong="H8071", and laded|strong="H6006" every man|strong="H0376" his ass|strong="H2543", and returned|strong="H7725" to the city|strong="H5892".
14 And Judah|strong="H3063" and his brethren|strong="H0251" came|strong="H0935" to Joseph’s|strong="H3130" house|strong="H1004"; for he was yet there: and they fell|strong="H5307" before him|strong="H6440" on the ground|strong="H0776".
15 And Joseph|strong="H3130" said|strong="H0559" unto them, What deed|strong="H4639" is this that ye have done|strong="H6213"? wot ye|strong="H3045" not that such a man|strong="H0376" as I can certainly|strong="H5172" divine|strong="H5172"?
16 And Judah|strong="H3063" said|strong="H0559", What shall we say|strong="H0559" unto my lord|strong="H0113"? what shall we speak|strong="H1696"? or how shall we clear ourselves|strong="H6663"? God|strong="H0430" hath found out|strong="H4672" the iniquity|strong="H5771" of thy servants|strong="H5650": behold, we are my lord’s|strong="H0113" servants|strong="H5650", both we, and he also|strong="H1571" with whom|strong="H0834" the cup|strong="H1375" is found|strong="H4672".
17 And he said|strong="H0559", God forbid|strong="H2486" that I should do|strong="H6213" so|strong="H2063": but the man|strong="H0376" in whose hand|strong="H3027" the cup|strong="H1375" is found|strong="H4672", he shall be my servant|strong="H5650"; and as for you, get you up|strong="H5927" in peace|strong="H7965" unto your father|strong="H0001".
18 Then Judah|strong="H3063" came near|strong="H5066" unto him, and said|strong="H0559", Oh|strong="H0994" my lord|strong="H0113", let thy servant|strong="H5650", I pray thee, speak|strong="H1696" a word|strong="H1697" in my lord’s|strong="H0113" ears|strong="H0241", and let not thine anger|strong="H0639" burn|strong="H2734" against thy servant|strong="H5650": for thou art even as Pharaoh|strong="H6547".
19 My lord|strong="H0113" asked|strong="H7592" his servants|strong="H5650", saying|strong="H0559", Have|strong="H3426" ye a father|strong="H0001", or a brother|strong="H0251"?
20 And we said|strong="H0559" unto my lord|strong="H0113", We have|strong="H3426" a father|strong="H0001", an old man|strong="H2205", and a child|strong="H3206" of his old age|strong="H2208", a little one|strong="H6996"; and his brother|strong="H0251" is dead|strong="H4191", and he alone is left|strong="H3498" of his mother|strong="H0517", and his father|strong="H0001" loveth|strong="H0157" him.
21 And thou saidst|strong="H0559" unto thy servants|strong="H5650", Bring him down|strong="H3381" unto me, that I may set|strong="H7760" mine eyes|strong="H5869" upon him.
22 And we said|strong="H0559" unto my lord|strong="H0113", The lad|strong="H5288" cannot|strong="H3201" leave|strong="H5800" his father|strong="H0001": for if he should leave|strong="H5800" his father|strong="H0001", his father would die|strong="H4191".
23 And thou saidst|strong="H0559" unto thy servants|strong="H5650", Except|strong="H3808" your youngest|strong="H6996" brother|strong="H0251" come down|strong="H3381" with you, ye shall see|strong="H7200" my face|strong="H6440" no more|strong="H7200".
24 And it came to pass when we came up|strong="H5927" unto thy servant|strong="H5650" my father|strong="H0001", we told|strong="H5046" him the words|strong="H1697" of my lord|strong="H0113".
25 And our father|strong="H0001" said|strong="H0559", Go again|strong="H7725", and buy|strong="H7666" us a little|strong="H4592" food|strong="H0400".
26 And we said|strong="H0559", We cannot|strong="H3201" go down|strong="H3381": if our youngest|strong="H6996" brother|strong="H0251" be|strong="H3426" with us, then will we go down|strong="H3381": for we may|strong="H3201" not see|strong="H7200" the man’s|strong="H0376" face|strong="H6440", except|strong="H0369" our youngest|strong="H6996" brother|strong="H0251" be with us.
27 And thy servant|strong="H5650" my father|strong="H0001" said|strong="H0559" unto us, Ye know|strong="H3045" that my wife|strong="H0802" bare|strong="H3205" me two|strong="H8147" sons:
28 And the one|strong="H0259" went out|strong="H3318" from me, and I said|strong="H0559", Surely|strong="H2963" he is torn in pieces|strong="H2963"; and I saw him|strong="H7200" not since|strong="H2008":
29 And if ye take|strong="H3947" this also from|strong="H5973" me|strong="H6440", and mischief|strong="H0611" befall him|strong="H7136", ye shall bring down|strong="H3381" my gray hairs|strong="H7872" with sorrow|strong="H7451" to the grave|strong="H7585".
30 Now therefore when I come|strong="H0935" to thy servant|strong="H5650" my father|strong="H0001", and the lad|strong="H5288" be not with us; seeing that his life|strong="H5315" is bound up|strong="H7194" in the lad’s life|strong="H5315";
31 It shall come to pass, when he seeth|strong="H7200" that the lad|strong="H5288" is not with us, that he will die|strong="H4191": and thy servants|strong="H5650" shall bring down|strong="H3381" the gray hairs|strong="H7872" of thy servant|strong="H5650" our father|strong="H0001" with sorrow|strong="H3015" to the grave|strong="H7585".
32 For thy servant|strong="H5650" became surety|strong="H6148" for the lad|strong="H5288" unto|strong="H5973" my father|strong="H0001", saying|strong="H0559", If I bring|strong="H0935" him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame|strong="H2398" to my father|strong="H0001" for ever|strong="H3117".
33 Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant|strong="H5650" abide|strong="H3427" instead of the lad|strong="H5288" a bondman|strong="H5650" to my lord|strong="H0113"; and let the lad|strong="H5288" go up|strong="H5927" with his brethren|strong="H0251".
34 For how|strong="H0349" shall I go up|strong="H5927" to my father|strong="H0001", and the lad|strong="H5288" be not with me? lest peradventure I see|strong="H7200" the evil|strong="H7451" that shall come on|strong="H4672" my father|strong="H0001".
